He was never a loner. I don't know why he came. But I think he's here for me.
Mother is going to completely unbend over this.

There has been delays to our departure for Tor. While hopefully this will not be long, I will be ready for the departure when the time arrives. It is important that this trip happens in the near future.
Besides the trip, the Archlector has me thinking. I should speak with him again in the near future.

All the same, mostly finished with my military strategy learning. Now I'm picking up botany books so I /definitely/ don't mistake a poisonous berry for an edible one.

I suppose I might also say that somehow, a small plush rabbit appeared in my pocket as I went about my day. I assume someone has taken advantage of my recent blindness on the left side to practice filling my pockets on said side.
I shall keep my coins on the right going forward.

I am still offering lessons for the rest of the week. We're working to outfit our new troops and to rebuild our forces so the extra silver is a great boon. I charge 50,000 silver a lesson - a number my brother Samael came up with. People have been willing to pay so I guess he picked right.

Initially I was using a book called The Discount Book of Bird Training whose back cover promised an easy time training a bird to do any number of tasks, but whose pages were mostly filled with useless bird puns. In one section on gaining supplementary income from your bird it actually had the gall (gull?) to say that "selling eggs is an egg-sellent way to make some eggs-tra income". The same egg pun twice in one sentence. Why, the Thraxian critic in me nearly went to the publishing house with torch in hand! Fortunately keener heads prevailed and I instead used my book-sword to chop it into pieces.
After that it was mostly a matter of shouting and crying at the bird in turn until it agreed that we could grudgingly be friends. I'm hoping that the same tactic will eventually get through to Master Bastien.

I can hear the messengers outside my quarters clawing quietly at the door, waiting to be let in. It's getting harder and harder to go places without being followed. If it isn't messengers for me it's messengers for someone else. If it isn't a messenger, it's an entourage of soldiers, hangers on, half-trained hounds, and... birds?
Look, a pelican is standing outside of my room just now with something in its floppy gullet. I have to tell you, journal, that this is very strange behavior. We've seen monkeys do this kind of thing, but how do you even train a pelican?
What else is new? Oh! Ian and Zoey gifted me with a lovely blue suede coat, a bit long in the rear, double breasted, broadly cut with a bit of gold flash in the liner and on the buttons. It's very nice. You'll like it. Jan gave me a small, sturdy blade. There's a tradition that says if you give someone a blade, you want to sever the relationship. That makes no sense to me. Jan is a soldier, so I am sure it's just a knife.
Also, let's see. Magic might be real, there are vomit monsters, and you can't always trust Harold or his knights.
What a world. I miss the sea.

I do not have the best history with gift giving. Next year, I will have time both for the finding of gifts (I did not realize what was even happening until it was too late to get anything that would not have sung a song of last minute) AND letting someone look them over for appropriateness.
That last bit is important.
I do very much appreciate those who thought of me, though.

A light drubbing is just the Thrax critic's way of saying 'you've found your voices, the structure is excellent and the dialogue is sharp, but you need to tighten up the third act and expand on the deuteragonist's motivations'. It's well-considered and fair.
It could be worse, my great uncle Harrold "Thumbless" Kennex was found guilty of using the passive voice in his essays.

Grayson Gift Day was a wonderful thing! Elgana gave me the most glorious pair of earrings as well as a rock, perhaps without knowing that even since Lady Khanne so graciously gifted me with my first paperweight, I collect such things. It is the most adorable pet bear and I love it! It brings a smile to my face whenever I look at it next to the otter one on my desk. Truly, bestfam!

All of the gifts I received were lovely and I had a wonderful time putting together the bottles that I sent out. Everyone can thank Master Thayne for them if they turned out well, he gave me very good instruction so that the final product turned out to be absolutely gorgeous! So, thank you, Master Thayne!
