I got to watch some sparing last night that has given me rise to consider improving my own physical ability. Or at the least I should be glad that my friends are so wonderfully tough! What a lovely evening. It is nice to go to bed with a smile on my face.

Relationship Note on Margret
I would be glad to lend my skills to your task. The purpose of the Commons Clinic (Say it again! Say it again!) has been to ensure all citizens of Arx have access to the same level of medical care as any other. Princess Katarina and I have been plotting an event the proceeds of which are geared towards a donation of food and necessities for those who live in the Lowers. I will happily funnel the proceeds of that event into this call to arms, Lady Margret. My priority has always been, to ensure our populace is as healthy as can be.

As Administrator of the Commons Clinic I often see cases of illness brought on by poor health in the Lowers. This is not the fault of those who fall sick, but rather lack to proper education, lack of proper housing, and while the Soup Kitchen does an admirable job keeping people from starving malnutrition is still an issue.
I don't know what I can do in regards to the second issues on my list, but when it comes to proper education regarding wellness I can do something. I will be formulating a plan over the next couple of days to improve health in the Lowers as best as I can. I do not write this to brag or try to make myself look good. Instead, it is a call to action. If you are likewise inclined to see change or you have an idea that you think will help I will take whatever help I can get.

I've decided to take responsibility. I just haven't had Patches out in public much of late and it's possible that social harmony depends far more on the presence of one small, three-legged dog than I thought.

Experience has taught me that if a person truly, deeply wishes to make a godsdamned fool out of themselves, then there are few mortal powers which can stop them, and certainly not the guidance and support - however earnest and fervent - of those who are more sensible than themselves. Advisers bear no blame when one chooses to ignore good advice and instead plow ahead into the sparkling waters of a sea of poor decisions.
While I do wait with interest for Grayson's next official response, and hope that it shows a great deal more of the qualities I associate with the Crown, I do sympathize with those Graysons who had no part in making this situation, and have done their best to resolve it with grace and dignity.

The duty a liege owes to a vassal, that I owe to our vassals, is to protect and defend you. Being raised in privilege and surrounded by wealth does not except us from this duty but expand upon it. There is none greater than Grayson, and so no greater duty than ours to act accordingly.
I can only say that I will try to do better. Each day, in each way that I can, for my sons, for my husband, for my family, for my House, for the Compact.

It has been so busy I have not had the chance to write a Journal for a little while. I find my days filled with drills, recruits, training, paperwork, and meetings. It is good to be so busy, but it is also exhausting. I suppose that it is a good thing that my husband is the sword of coffee, as I like to joke. Though I am seriously thankful to Farshaw's coffee. It has certainly helped me with some of my late nights. And the Crimson Blades too. I may have to look into setting aside silver to make sure there is enough stock to always ensure coffee in the morning at Headquarters and Chapter Houses. Is it addictive I wonder?
Recruitment for the Blades continues and I am so pleased. We have enough things going on I've had to hire additional support staff. This has included Mistress Melody, on a temporary basis. I look forward for her assistance in our public relations and working where diplomacy is needed. It is a very exciting time. A very stressful one too, in some ways, but the good outweighs the bad. And that is how it should be I think. The Blades grow. My family grows. My friends grow. Yes there are dangers, but our strength together I know we can face it.

The children at Saving Grace were wonderful! They helped me in bandaging and tending to Atila's wounds. He was not really hurt, just pretending. I know he loved all their attentive hands petting him. He's quite spoiled and so gentle in nature. I feel I may have inspired a few of the children to pursue being a healer to animals! I hope so!

Recently my thoughts have turned to language and communication. Strangely, one would think they were the same thing but oddly they are not. I find that in the past week, many times in fact, I have come across people speaking the same language, but the understanding of the words intent versus how they were taken have been an entire miss.
This is not anyone's fault mind, but rather it shows how easy it is to misunderstand. Language is a powerful tool, it can build and ruin lives, reputations, cause harmony and discord, create and destroy relationships. The words we speak are often said without careful consideration for how they might be received, and far too often the assumption of the recipient is ill intent rather than any number of other possibilities.
I am just as liable to misunderstand, speak without forethought, allow my emotions to color my words, and assume the worst of others. This is a weakness I certainly do, and will continue to, strive to correct. I think too often as well we forget that everyone has their hard times, their own personal demons, sometimes we let them overtake us, other times we are able to hide them.
This is nothing more than my thoughts on something I have observed, and been myself part of. This is not meant to be anything more than a sort of thinking aloud, perhaps an external reminder to myself that my words can have power beyond what I anticipate and to keep that in mind before I let them out.

Perhaps if all of our esteemed nobles behaved nobly, they wouldn't need to be called out.
It's very frustrating for a commoner, who has been told for much of her life that she's worthless and her voice is not to be heard, to see those that she is commanded to look up to and respect act like children.

It's interesting on how you feel that it's your duty as a Whisper to correct others for their behavior in a public forum. I was not aware this public service was one of House Whisper's offerings. I was under the impression it was the duty of a liege to correct their vassal.
Please note that I have the utmost the respect for many of the members of Whisper House. I have found their grace, elegance, and diplomatic talents to be above par. However, your need for discord and talent for escalating a situation does nothing to garner etiquette. It makes a bad situation worse. In truth, I find it to almost be a bit bullying at times. When you potentially benefit by being called to Champion a situation you escalated, I wonder if said peer of the realm might have a civil suit against the Champion's Guild.
Because if you're tasked with defending honor, is it fair to besmirch the object of their ire, consequently escalating to a duel that could lead to financial benefit to yourself? I'm not really sure. I certainly think it might be something for the legal minds of this city to ponder.

This is not at all reflective on my deep respect for the Whisper House or the Champion's Guild. Nor does it reflect the feelings of Redrain on such institutions. It's a cute donkey. I wanted to see if I could refine the concept before I began a series of donkeys in various idyllic landscape paintings. Like, a Frozen Donkey of Everwinter, a Brave Donkey Dodging Arrows in the Shadowood, and maybe a Salty Donkey Wading in Thrax Bay.
I'll have them all hung in your room if you like.
