While my previous entry was entirely brimming with dread and gloom, please allow me to reiterate that the Compact can and will stand strong. Together, with wisdom, unity and resolve, we can overcome these impossible odds.

To say that the Compact does not need any protection is a folly. Twice we have been utterly destroyed from assaulting forces much stronger than ours. Even in those days, if the stories and legends are to be believed, our ranks were filled with miraculous men and women, capable of arcane feats unlike many of us could even fathom. Do not let arrogance cloud your judgement, and then call it resolve. We have recovered from two near annihilations. Do you presume we can survive a third?

Relationship Note on Juniper

Juniper Whisper is indeed a talented diplomat, and her skill at assisting in the resolution of even the most challenging feuds, both public and private, is a resource Arx is lucky to have.

So that was how silks hold a feast. Now I know exactly what they mean by 'As drunk as a Lord' - it's a lot like being as drunk as the man asleep on the street with no clothes, no money and no cares in the Lowers, but with people to make sure you still have clothes and money when you wake. Drunken darts was fun to watch, but it seems like a very bad idea to play if you have to go back to the Lowers and want to keep all your stuff when you do.

The food was good, mostly. I'm not sure all the things on those giant plates were food, but there you go. Given what was considered food, I think sampling the flowers is perfectly defensible.

My glass is half-full with lots of potential, not half-empty in need of filling by folks in flashy ships.

Wish I could give a shit about all these fuckoffs coming in to say how wonderful they both are and how we're better off with them.

You know what that tells me? We got something they want. Either that, or we're a threat to something. Everybody always wants something and more often than not, it's usually self-serving. So these yahoos roll in an start swinging their dicks around. If you ask me, I'd also wager they're looking for some more meat shields in what spat they got against each other.

Fuck if I know what any of this really means. But the way I figure it? We've done alright on our own.

So thanks but no thanks.

So I have now encountered a Nox'alfar, and his giant, purple spider.

I just wrote that sentence and have looked at it again and it feels wrong to have written that.

A sweet, talented young woman who invited me to the Spring Lodge Planting. It was wonderful to have gotten to know her and I look forward to the event.

This was a lovely gathering, the hostess put together a simple but still engaging game. I was slightly disappointed that nothing actually caught fire and nobody fought a duel to settle a lifelong feud, but you can't have everything. Also I was able to slip out before all that rapid drinking caught up with anyone in an unpleasant way.

So we have Emissaries from differing Empires approaching the Compact and making various offers of 'protection'. As far as I am concerned the Compact does not need the protection of other powers. With that in mind I will do what Malvici always do... prepare for war.

I am looking into adding to Sparte's list of alcohol of Arx. I have already added to the list but I am looking for more. If you have a vintage, rum, whiskey, vodka anything that is in your collection let me know so I can update the list.

Working with Sparte and Macda on this. Thank you!

If you approach that ship and you are not a messenger delivering a reply straight from the King, you are an impossible idiot. Stay away from it. Stay away from both of them. These people do not play around, and you aren't going to gain some advantage by being the first moron to try to make friends.

"As Arx endures, we remember"

These are particularly 'interesting' times we find ourselves in. Keep these words in mind as both history and future unravels itself to us.

I don't know anything about the Undying Emperor, but I have a hunch that his name is Phillip and he began life as the son of a simple tanner in a small village far to the South of the Lyceum. There the young boy led a happy and simple life until one day when exploring with his friends, he fell into a deep cave and came across a strange, glowing green stone.

The stone was unpleasant to the touch and so the boy simply hid it away and all but forgot about it until the next year when a vicious tribe of Shavs swept through, pillaging and killing. His father died and his childhood sweetheart was carried off with the tribe. Distraught and without hope, Phillip ran to where he had hid the stone and clutched it tight, the experience grew steadily more and more unpleasant until his whole body shook with tremors but still he clutched it.

Then all of a sudden it came to him, the power, the deepest and darkest of powers, that with which life and death itself could be controlled. With his stone he could call the dead back into service as warriors and restore life to those afflicted by sickness or even age. So he raised up the body of a long dead steed and rode out after the Shav tribe with preternatural speed.

In a few days he caught up to them, and raising the bodies of all the fallen animals from the forest in a dozen miles he attacked the camp, what tribal warriors came near to him he touched with his hand which was wreathed in emerald fire and the life went instantly out of them. He found his childhood sweetheart but he was to her eyes an unliving monster wreathed in emerald flame and she fled screaming, he ran after her but as he caught her the life too left her body and she fell limp in his embrace.

He used his power to return her to life, but what came back just a creature. So he moved on, driven by nothing now but the hollow desire for power he used his great army to conquer an empire, and to sustain his own youth indefinitely. Today he sit eternal on a throne of bone, with nothing but the husk of his childhood love beside him for company.

Such curious wonders that I have only until now read about find their way to our shores. Representatives of the Undying Emperor and of Cardia. As a Scholar, I find this fascinating. To see ships from lands we have so rarely heard of. It is a Scholar's dream to record such a moment in history. I will be watching closely.
