I attended a medal ceremony held by the Valardins. It was very good seeing so many familiar faces which I feel as though I've grown distant from. While they were unable to be present, two of my sisters earned medals for their services prior to and during the siege. Well earned. Themselves and all of the others who were likewise given praise.

Hello…
Do you hear me in the night?
Do you wonder what’s next?
Do you try to feint, to parry?

I am waiting…
For the next attack by our foes.
For the next crisis to rock our walls.
For the next enemy to rise from the ashes.

Don’t be scared…
Of the darkness that creeps in shadows.
Of the scars that were left behind.
Of the future that seems unknown.

We will prevail…
By standing together in unity.
By protecting Crown and Compact.
By staying Faithful to the Pantheon.

It seems that I've managed to impress a High Lord.

I will teach him charm and decorum. He will teach me how to cleave a man in two with an axe.

Whatever killed poor Pere will be hunted and killed in turn. I know it won't bring her back for her husband and people, but it is better than just giving condolences.

The gray forest is in such terrible state between the blight and the shavs left behind. What makes a people turn to cannibalism, making armor of human hide, and enslaving their own people? I suppose its moot as we killed those that attacked us and could be found. Anyone who cares to bitch about my slaughtering in this case can kiss my bronze-skinned ass. They brought it on themselves and the children and old people we saved didn't complain any. Still, it was too easy. I miss the challenge of bringers.

Tomorrow, we will pray in thanks for new beginnings.

I have a barrowload of trees for the occasion and I'm looking forward to seeing you all getting down in the dirt and mucking around with me.

Don't worry, we'll have at least one person there who knows how plants are supposed to work.

Relationship Note on Eirene

I don't make friends very well, but I like Malvici, she's good stuff.

Fixed my leg, needed it. And she's easy to talk to, don't know where she gets the idea that she's not.

Seems to think she can drink better than me, or any Redrain for that matter. That's fine, I'll let her down easy.

Met her a couple of times previously, but never really had the chance to have a real conversation with her. We got enough shit in common, and not all for the best reasons ever. Like looking at things through the bottom of a bottle and that's not all bad. So I have to say, I don't have a lot of close friends, or many friends in general, but I'd say she's one of them.

Can't ask for much more than that.

Reading all these white journals, and I'm amazed at the honesty displayed therein. It goes straight to my heart, makes me positively giddy with excitement. I'm making lists of names. It's titled "People of Interest". I'll be sure to track all individuals there-in and offer the listening ear they seem to beg for.

Don't thank me, it's what Confessors do. We care, really.

It's been a calm week, this one.
Nightmares are back.
Maybe it wasn't so calm, but I've been too sleepy to see what was going on...

Dear diary,

Went on a boat. Mildly unnerving.

Played drunk limbo. Fell in the third round.

If this is what the Thrax do in the spare time, I'd say they're not half bad.

The Sword of Setarco is more than just a pretty face. She's pretty face who hits very hard and can put a warrior on the ground. I shall feel these bruises for weeks. And she made me owe her a drink.

We each of us carry the mark and message of our faith within us. What we believe in forms the stones of the path we take through life. I am devout, and serve the gods, but when I consider the beliefs of others, I must believe that the gods do not condemn if a person's faith is not with the Pantheon, or in their message. They are ideals and as all ideals do, they help and raise; they prefer to act on our paths as the lights of the city do for those who walk these streets. But those paths are formed of our thoughts, our choices, our own actions.

If faith guides -- in whatever form it comes to us -- as ideals are meant to do, that is still a path formed in the light. Yes, we have flaws. Yes, we may doubt ourselves and our ability to do what is needed, and what is best. Yes, it is a path which rises, and yes, at times we will be weary of climbing. There will be moments when we fall back rather than move forward, or where we despair of what's behind us.

That is the promise of Aion's dream, this world shaped by choices. Ours are not simple lives, nor is our world cast in stark and simple shades of black and white. A path may curve, it may double back. But with faith held in our heart, and our eyes raised to the light, we will always find the way, as wanderers do in the wilds, with the stars overhead to guide them and no easy road to walk.

Perhaps that is the message of Aion's symbol in the triad of the Lost. Whether we believe in it or not, the star remains overhead, and every nighttime sky is an invitation to look up and continue onwards.

My personal best in the Telmar Gauntlet remains at 50 marks. I expect it will be some time before I beat that.

And the Lady Guildmaster of the Physician's guild has told me to take it easy on my arm over the next week or so. That complicates things.

At least the willow-bark doesn't smell awful.

I took part in a patrol of the Gray Forest, along with several warriors from the Grayson ranks, some of the Crimson Blades, the young Iron Guardsman, and a highly skilled archer sworn to the Velenosas. We came upon a party of shav'arvani carrying a banner bearing the symbol of a vulture feasting on a dead man. Their leathers, upon examination, were made of human skin.

It was not a friendly encounter.

They turned hostile, and we determined they had prisoners from another, more peaceable, tribe trapped as hostages. A fight ensued, and we managed to free the captive shav'arvani and offer them safe passage back to Arx. With their own homes no longer places of refuge, perhaps they shall bend the knee. I would offer all aid to helping them adjust to the city, if they remain.

More and more each day, I give up the idea that there shall be any ease to the dangers we face now that Tolemar Brand has been slain. If the darkness is less pressing at our walls, I feel I see it more than ever. And it takes fine warriors from us still. My heart grieves for Princess Peregrine of the Gold Feathers. I pray that Sir Mathias Coaldust of the Knights of the Solace might be found, though nothing I've heard seems to promise it. I shall remain vigilant and fight so well as I can for me and mine. There is still so much to do.

Another day of living out of my travel chest. I should've remembered that there's little but lace and silk in Arx. I'm sure I'll eventually find a tailor, but I've much preferred finding liquor.
