This war had been brewing for much longer than seven years. Even when Eswynd were Abandoned, before kneeling to Tyde there were tensions between Thrax and Grayson over some murdered Isles princess, and within Thrax there were tensions of Old Ways against them who looked to the mainland. It's a piece of great irony that I've always favored the Old Ways and scorned the mainland, yet here we are.

With all that said, seems safe to claim that the declaration that Thrax would see thralldom banned in seven year were the point past which war of some sort and size were unavoidable.

And there were clashes before this war we're declared. Ivanites fought us at Pieros Bay and afterward, but not until Nightcove reaved, Margot were murdered and Dagon broke his oaths was the current war fought in earnest.

That was near twelve months past, with no likely end in sight. Many battles have been fought, many tens of thousands of souls spent. Kinstrife truly is the ugliest form of warring.

Mayhap a storm that grew for seven year afore breaking will need a further seven to spend itself. Or mayhap the Oathbreaker dies of a stubbed toe and Anders Nightcove loses his puppet.

I've attended several meetings this week. Each different, but really the wanted outcome the same. It's time to get moving.

There are days I wonder if I've made the best choices, but my choice in Ripley has never been one. His work is beyond amazing and I couldn't be more proud of him.

A bard always has plans, creating a new song, which instrument to play.. or not. Which event or location in which to indulge in musical expressioin and which garb best suits the occasion, if just one more glass of wine (or rum or whiskey) will make the songs flow more easily or might make the lyrics become garbled also might enter into a bard's plans.

The Compact isn't a dead word which we're united for. We all are the Compact, each of us. It is the space between you and I. Often the call goes out to fight for overlord or king, but really it's to fight and defend for the space between you and I. To fill that holy space with dreams and noble aspirations guided by the gods while you and I deal with the reality and hardships we were born to live and die in. This space between you and I, this is the Compact. And should we choose right in what fills that space, I believe we can make it as impenetrable as the walls of Sangris.

Relationship Note on Haakon

I would like to meet that person who encrypts strategic plans in cake. Or just plans. Or just cake.

Relationship Note on Haakon

A Cardian bearing gifts, you see
Is the most suspicious thing to me
Unless perhaps I happened upon
A Dagonite in Abandoned tongue
Equally dubious, no mistake
Would be a map that is a cake
But the one that truly stops my heart
Is when fuckin' Savio thinks he's smart
The rest is questionable without doubt --
But when a bard makes plans, look out.

I am still searching for a patron that would embrace my skills and strengthen those that I do not possess with their own. It can be very difficult in picking an appropriate patron, and there are many things to consider in the selection process. Do you get along? Do your values and virtues align? Do they have your best interest at heart? Will they be able to give you the time you may require or are they spread out with their own projects? Will they invite you into those projects so you might make a difference, and will they show an interest in your own? It takes time.

I ventured somewhere I would never usually go and was not disappointed in the person I met while I was there. We spoke about traditional weapons, the expectations placed upon them, and why the axe is superior. I don't wield any weapons, so I can not say for certain if the axe is better than the sword or if the dagger is better than the spear, but I can say that a weapon in the hands of someone untrained is as dangerous as if they held no weapon at all and one should always use the weapon they are comfortable with rather than the weapon that is expected of them.

If any wish to see a look of wary suspicion, present me with any of the following:
A Cardian bearing gifts.
A Dagonite trying to speak the Abandoned tongue.
Savio, claiming to have a brilliant idea.
Or a tremendous cake in three tiers, painted up to serve as a map.

Relationship Note on Ripley

It is impossible not to admire the recent work Master Ripley creates in honor of Artshall. The delicate work and variety of materials and thought put into it puts one in awe. Personally, I understand tragedy breeds art, but I am moved by every piece that is created in honor of my home.

May Jayus Bless Him.

It is good to see the mainland outrage at an Oathlands vassal house joining in the Dagonite depredations in Kennex waters.

It would be better if there were any similar outrage at the Grayson vassals who fight to defend thralldom on behalf of an oathbreaker.

I met a woman the other day who was a traveler of sorts. Not for enjoyment but for work. I suspect few travel for the sole enjoyment of it anymore, with the waters being what they are. One must have reasons for every action, a purpose more than "I wanted to", or even better to answer "because I could". I have decided to say yes to every new experience this week, no matter what. Because I could.

I am reliving my firsts. If I was not in Arx long enough to experience and enjoy them, I will simply have to do them all again. I am taking suggestions and companion requests to join me.
