The play! The play!

It was a resounding success! Lady Evonleigh Whitehawk's amazing play was a resounding success. With yours truly in the lead role and all the others who added their amazing talents to it.

When's the next one?

Death by a shattered heart.
Best to cut it out, get rid of it from the start.

Relationship Note on Arcadia

I can't believe my friend (and occasional nemesis) Lady Arcadia Leary is now Countess Arcadia Stahlben! There aren't enough congratulations I can give on her marriage. It is both the most and somehow also the least surprising thing she could have done. Though seriously, congratulations to her.

I still don't believe about those mamoths though.

I've been remiss in attending social engagements that are *just* for fun. Too often I allow myself to be swept away in business. Though it does occurr to me that I should host some smaller dinner parties sometime in the immediate future. There's nothing wrong with some light work while eating good food, is there??

There are many times I still wish to pick up a pen and write to Lady Aislin before I realize.

I am glad some of her works still live on with us.

Raised alongside Belladonna and Celeste while they were my pupils, she also suffered from my enthusiasm for matters historical and obscure. Thankfully, even now that she is a socialite of high renown and rank she seems to retain some fondness for her rambling old tutor and her stories!

So we will build for the future - it will be nice to return to Tyde Isle for a short time to oversee things. A war academy, providing careers for male freed thralls as well as other men of the isles. And I'll even train some to look after our forests, so important for ensuring we keep animals on Tyde Isle to hunt, and to look after the timber that is so vital for our ships. The statues are started, those who fell and led on both sides in the rebellion. It will be the first statue of my father since his death.

Tradition will be held to where it serves the Isles, where it serves Tyde, where it is important. But where it harms us, where it holds us back, we forget the purpose of tradition. it is to hold us to a proper path as we grow and advance, not to hold us back, unchanging.

Recent years have marked a large increase in the use of the Templars. We have deployed to all parts of the Compact, and worked with many different houses and groups. We are active in ways my order has not seen for generations. We have done none of this alone - Dame Thena and others have been constant companions.

Recently, there has been a lot of arguing about an issue that has been settled, thralldom. Clearly not settled in that everyone agrees that ending the practice was a good idea, or else those discussions would not be going on. However, the proclamation by the Prince of Maelstrom makes that discussion a moot point; the institution is on its way out, for better or worse.

In light of that, I ask my fellow Mourning Isles traditionalists to look at what might be gained going forward, because there is no going back in time. Alliances with other houses will be easier to form in the future. Trading partners will be easier to find, opening new markets for our exports. These things are how we will get through the rough times ahead, as well as how our people will come to thrive again. How our children will flourish when we return to the Wheel. Step back for a moment, and look at the long view of what this will all mean.

I did not know. I had no idea that something so amazing could be done.

I watched Lady Evonleigh's play, 'A Wager of Hearts'. I'd never watched a play before - it just hadn't come up. I mean, sure, I'd seen some little short performances in the Uppers, street performances. They were very entertaining. But this wasn't like that, it was drawing me in and making me hold my breath at times, or want to shout at them at the stage to WATCH OUT or even run and rescue them, or warn them.

I am so glad Lady Evonleigh asked me to come see it. I admit, I at first just went because she is family, but I don't know if she knew just how enraptured I became by this experience.

To all the actors and actresses; thank you.

Sister,

To think you became Queen. And to think they killed you within that very same year. I wonder if our brother ever found out who "they" were, before he died himself. If that "they" was of flesh and bone, or simply the common misfortune responsible for so many tragedies. Accident, without guilty party to punish and make us feel better at the loss. Either way, it would seem I've arrived late, both in pride and mourning.

Wherever the Queen of Endings saw fit to take your soul, I hope you find peace and happiness.

Tears in our wake, never at our wake.

Even the fake princes now! Never again. I'd sooner marry a boot instead. Lord Boot Keaton won't care if I yawn in their face, or forget them outside over night or spurn them for slippers. Also, they'll have an equally handsome brother... also named Boot, but he'll be less his twin and more his reflection and he'll probably be the bad one that's a lot of fun but you can't trust with your belongings because they'll steal everything to fund their drink fueled misadventures and be completely unapologetic about it when caught. He'd probably reek of haze and have a really stupid hat with a feather in it, that somehow still looks good on him even though it's really horrid.

I desperately need some sleep.

Brother,

They say you fell fighting for Compact and our House. Out there, at sea, with your crew of animals that were always so dear to you.

It's too late, by far, to tell you much that went unsaid. But I suppose that's just the way you want it and so it'll remain.

I must admit that I was surprised at just how much I thoroughly enjoyed my brother Martino's rooftop party. It was refreshing not having to concern myself with training or anything similar and just have some time to relax with fine food, company and wine.

That being said I did end up finding a fellow naval commander and talking about our share profession for a while. Baron Edward impressed me considerably.

Material gains and monuments aren't really what people remember. A true legacy is etched into the minds of others and the stories they share about you. And I suspect you've given us quite a few.

You were one of my oldest friends in the city and it does feel like a significant chapter is closing, but I don't have it in me to be wholly depressed if you've finally got to wherever you wanted to go. We grew side by side; our roots will always be tangled. I'm glad for that. I look forward to seeing you again... whenever that may be.

Tonight I sit in the Shrine of the Thirteenth to begin my week here for the eligibility of becoming a Disciple in the Scholars.

I thought it would be rather quiet and give me plenty of time for contemplating the reasons for doing it, or maybe even just my life's path. Instead, I happened on a few friends already sitting there and had a somewhat distracted conversation with all three of them, Lord Evander being the last to go. In the silence of everyone leaving, I let past memories wash over me. Morning teas, various chats, stolen looks, past fears, and as they did, I basked in every one of them.

Having gone on a whim and expecting to be bored and leave early, I was pleasantly surprised instead. It was well run, my only wish being I could have seen the leadership event also. I could only choose one. However, the three winners were presented at the end, so had a hint of the rest. My hopeful, Princess Denica, came in second. Next time she should woo the Queen with ships. It is sure to work. A Queendom without a strong fleet is a doomed one. So, naturally, it is a sound decision. I am sure the Wanton would agree. Hmm, next time they should have the whole thing on a ship. Yes.
