Relationship Note on Alrec

I make no secret that I never liked Admiral Alrec Magaldi. He was an obnoxious, overly-eager man who lived entirely on the philosophy of asking for forgiveness instead of permission. Or, if I am frank, mostly on doing what he felt best regardless of the opinions of others. But whatever my opinion of Alrec was, he served Pravus and Pravus takes care of its own.

Today we have the murderers of Alrec Magaldi in custody and justice will be served.

The first time I saw the old memorial to Goldenpyre at the Merchant's gate is a day I shall remember forever. It opened my eyes to the wonders of the world, and to the history of Arvum. I always stopped there when walking past, studying it, wondering about what happened. I later did learn what happened there. The story of Goldenpyre and Aurumadin has inspired many paintings after this; they now hang, hopefully, in halls of estates across the city.

So I wish to give thanks to Dustin Nidhogg, Master of Questions Prince Laric Grayson, Princess Sorrel Thrax, Guildmaster Josephine Arcuri and Captain Ajax for their restoration of this memorial.

As Arx endures, we will never forget.

I've had a few itneresting weeks again. Most weeks are, truly. Radiant Bliss Whisper herself joined the Harlequins! I was quite star struck, but I believe I didn't make a complete fool of myself, and even if I did, well - fools are entertaining.

It brought to attention something which might be keeping people from joining the Harlequins; though a major part of a Harlequins work is midwifery, councelling the bereaved and offering funeral services, there is room for much more. I mean, look at me - Second First Harlequin, one of the voices of the discipleship, and I don't know the first thing about midwifery, I make an awful grief councellor - though I suppose I'd perform an outstanding funeral service, I wouldn't be anyone's FIRST choice for such a thing. But I am passionate about my godess, and I want to spread her word across Arvum. I embrace life, Her gift to us all. Between birth and death, there is a life to live and she wants us to live it and not squander this gift. I take joy in talking about her, and to help the Harlequins in other ways; collecting money, hosting events, spreading her word. So, if you ever thought the Harlequins interesting but felt unsure? As long as you have the Queen in your heart, you are welcome. It is not up to anyone to decide what god or godess you want to follow and become a disciple of. The Radiant Bliss Whisper proves this. I prove this. If there is a longing in your heart, then follow it. Your God or Godess will know your love, will they not?

I don't know quite how it happened, but it seems I'm spending more and more time doing research lately. Some personal mysteries, and helping others. The scholars at the archives know me by first name by now, we have a jolly good time discussing all sorts of topics, musing over old tomes and interpreting the words. I suppose I caught on to a thing or two by mere exposure and these days I don't even find it THAT boring. Must never be afraid to change your views!

Relationship Note on Bree

Dame Bree Harthall sent me a message shortly after the art store opening, asking me if I'd like to spar. Intrigued, I went to answer her challenge, and we crossed blades. She proved that she does have more training than I do in combat and ended up winning the day, but I hope that I proved to be a proper challenge for her, and we should cross blades again someday.

I believe she mentioned wanting to try her hand at the joust. I will have to see about making sure I am properly outfitted for such. After the match, I think our teasing was momentarily sidetrack by a comment made in poor choice.. but easily overlooked as a tease that didn't exactly go as planned. I know she did not mean to offend, and I took none to it after I realized that.

She is a remarkable woman, and I'm glad I got to meet her.

Relationship Note on Karina

I went to Karina Seabright's event at her new shop, the Mourning Muse to celebrate it's grand opening with a story of tall tales to earn a painting. The stories that were told were great, and I hope to see them committed to the journals or a book, but I will share mine:

----------
The Bard of Aleshire

Aleshire is a small village near Farhaven. In this village, there was a young man. He was quite the energetic young man, that would while away his days with stories and song. Oh, he loved to sing, and dance and entertain. And many thought that he would go to the Bard's College, and become quite the star - spreading the tales of Redrain far and wide.

At night, it was assumed that the young man was in the arms with some lovely lady, or plotting the tales of his next story, or writing his next song. But Aleshire had a problem. There was a thief in town - that was stealing from the town mayor and the higher ranked officials. Silver, expensive items, all of it was being taken by an unknown person or persons.

And then one night, there was a scream from a merchant's house. The thief had struck again! They chased the thief through the streets of Aleshire, and when they finally caught up to him - to everyone's surprise, it turned out that their town's hope - the young man with the golden voice, had turned to a life of crime. He was the one that had been breaking into the homes and stealing their silver and valuables.

The next day, the young man was dragged before the court in Aleshire. As he faced the Mayor and the Lady of the land, the charges were read, and the Lady frowned. 'These are serious allegations against you, young man'. she said to the thief. 'But I have been told of your voice and song, and I will give you a chance. Return everything you have stolen, and I will make sure you go to the Bard's College to be trained.'

The Mayor looked at him seriously and said 'Boy, you have a choice. You can be a bard. Or you can be a criminal. Which will it be?'

The young man was in fear for a moment, and then after a few moments of thought, straightened up, looked at the Lady and the Mayor and stated...

..I need to think on the Prose and Cons of it.

--------------

I think I may have confused a couple of people, but I thought it was a good story! It was a great event and you should see Mistress Seabright's artwork sometime. Maybe I can inspire her to work on a piece for Redrain.

I got swarmed by Mazzettis this evening. That isn't an exaggeration. Made it out alive though, and did catch up with a certain cousin. All ended well.

Also...Martino and Domonico are both home from Southport. Dom brought me gifts. So many useful gifts! I however am just glad they both made it back safely.

Relationship Note on Preston

I would be incredibly honored and happy to get to work with the Templars again, Sir Preston. Were things different, I would have liked to have attempted the path of a Templar. You have been kind in your regard and I am grateful to be considered a friend. It is a privilege I hope to continue to earn.

The Tragedies of Carmella recount the last days of a merchant-princess of Setarco, and how one can gain so much and lose it all by being true to their nature. As a play it is beautiful and moving, the sets and coreography humbling even the most jaded, but the warning about the pitfalls of success ring hollow to some.

To these few there is only the chase.

The chase is what gets them out of bed in the morning, and keeps them moving well beyond when all others are tired and must rest their aching legs. The pursuit is all there is, like a hunger that never stops, something that crawls up the throat and chokes, until one day the old wolf gets too close to prey that is stronger and faster.

The wolf chases because he must, and he chases forever, because he knows in his bones that this is what he must do. A creature with clarity of purpose and devoid of all chatter, living by its own code, and ultimately undone by it. There is no shame in the life of a wolf, only purity.

I tried, especially in my childhood, to see Carmella as a tragic figure, dousing herself in oil and leaving this life in a screaming pile of charred flesh and bones, not a single coin to her name. I do not think I am able to, and the realization is unsettling, somehow.

Carmella did not choose her path, but she was wise enough to find it by being true to herself, and in the end her requiem took the only form it could: absolute purity.

That is all to say, I have enjoyed the latest installment of the Tragedies from my most recent visit to Setarco. I would rate it far above average, and a great victory for the company involved in its production.

A change in debtors isn't a change in fortune - it's just a change of terms, and that can mean a lot of bad things.

Went to make some payments today, and found out (one by one) that the same person has been gobbling up my debts. I liked them separated. I could keep the payments spread out across the month, stall with one debtor a little while paying another. Those days seem to be behind me, a half-dozen cronies being replaced by one.

Meeting with them now. If this is to be my last entry, the reasons why will be obvious.

Relationship Note on Caspian

My dearest, most-kind Missere Champion Caspian's gift to the Golden Hart was so very well welcome and so very generous. And much needed, too.

I'm honoured that he might think of us when supporting our city's charities. Though, it does not surprise. He has always been a dear friend and generous benefactor and champion of my Hart.

Truly, there is so many good causes to support and so many beautiful things to do for our peoples and realm. I am glad to be able to add my Hart's assistance to all the good works. However, without the generous support and donations like this we could not do nearly so much.

It his heartening to know that he sees why it is so important to support us. I feel so blessed.

Thank you again, sir. We will see that good things come of your generosity.

You were a most valuable friend, as you have been for some time, to the Templars in helping us, Dame Ida. We do not expect all who work with us to join us - we enjoy working with others. And certainly your skill in the forge is a joy not just to Jayus but I hope to the other Gods as well, I hope we will have more opportunities to work together soon - perhaps on something happier.

Relationship Note on Teagan

Strangely, Lady Teagan, I have never found you lacking in faith. When the cultists around the woman calling herself the Reaper came to your attention, and her use of a known artifact the heretics claim have power, came to your attention, you came to the Templars. You thought others would help you. You were right. You placed your trust in others. You placed the safety of that thing you hold most dear, your people, with others. You had faith that others would be good. That they would care for your people as you do.

You have people you trust implicitly, I do not know how you could do that without faith. And even when things are bad, your first concern is always for others.

That was not too long of a trip, thanks to the Great Road, to get to Southport and back. Something that, while there will still be more to do on the matter, that it makes connecting everywhere back to this city so much easier.

On the trip itself? Well a delight to have caught up with some of those I have not seen for nearly a year since being mostly settled into Arx. Fortunately Messere Cassius did direct me to the references I sought in the Southport Archives. What does mean it the suite here is now quite piled high with folios once more.

I have spent a good deal of time of late preparing the Kennex library -- stocking up for the winter with reading material -- as an animal might before they're preparing to hibernate for the winter.

I admit to being so caught up in that, that I haven't, once again, fully prepared myself for winter with proper clothing. Fortunately, the Lady Zoey has kindly offered to prepare some warm clothing for me, and the Baroness Acantha even more generously has provided some of Clearlake's furs. I might actually find this winter to be more pleasant than the last.

But just in case, there's always a library full of books to keep me busy.

Well, fishing hardly went any better than wagon-racing. These last-place finishes are sure to put me out of the running for any of those amazing purses.

Today was even weirder than the last event. Some folks showed up dressed kinda like me - I guess to be in my corner. That was flattering, but also a little... eh. I guess it's like looking in the mirror too hard. It's not like I'm thrilled to be wearing brown leathers, it was just the cheapest they had that I could afford. Even springing for black pelts for my coat was a bit of a splurge when I got them crafted.

Still, had a good time of it. Ras and I exchanged some pleasantries during and after the event. Boy needs to get his brain further away from his heart, and his ego further away from him altogether. Can't stand when people put themselves down just because they're worse off. Guess it stings extra hard, because if we're going based on monetary value, I'm lower'n dirt, so what does that make me if he's not good enough?

Now I'm thinking on it too much, and that's exactly the tripe I want to avoid. Sulking never helped no one with nothing.
