Relationship Note on Magpie

Pie's a good boy. Mostly. You take care of him and I'm sure he'll take care of you in kind. You and Harper are doing good things.

People are interesting!

I think a lot about making money, I suppose. Money is useful for many things, and not having it means hunger and homelessness and a lot of very unpleasant things! But really, one of the things I enjoy most about being in the work I am is taking an interest in people. Everyone wants something, and everything has something worthwhile to offer in return for the things they want. But beyond desire, people are just so INTERESTING. Everyone has a story, a history, something that drives them.

I don't know why I'm writing this, really. Except that it's something good for me to remember.

Relationship Note on Caith

I too have to express my delight at being involved in another joyful project. Many thanks to Princess Sabella and Prince Niklas and everyone who invested their efforts into making the plays so much fun. The opportunity to work with so many creative souls was a tremendous honour for me, and the children were adorable.

You were wonderful with the children. It was lovely to see, really.

I have been having such a lovely time spending time with the children at the plays that Princess Sabella has been putting on -- and I am just in awe of everyone's talent and hard work! It's a delight, truly a delight, to be involved with an endeavor that brings so much joy to so many young ones.

Relationship Note on Aleksei

As a partner and event host, I cannot speak highly enough of Inquisitor Aleksei. I rather think that we pulled it off smashingly. I'm sure our comedy act can go on tour any day now, as soon as we both retire from about ten thousand other jobs that we routinely do.

And because I always seem to write my journals as a sort of addendum to my weeks end - it has been a relatively dry and boring week. I'm not going to bother myself by trying to make my life seem exciting or engaging, I like the plain and simple pace of my life.

I've also found myself actually bothering to learn about Jacali's brews. I don't mean that to be rude - it's just I'm not learned in them so I figured it wouldn't be worth it if I bothered to learn anything about them. I've found that instead learning about the flavours helps me serve them better.

I met a Lord that seems like one of the decent folks this day. He was able to actually enjoy life without seeming so incredibly stuck up that I instantly felt I couldn't even talk to, nevermind relate to him. Decent person. I'll keep my eye on them.

Relationship Note on Alarissa

Returning to Arx has been a test in reacquainting myself with the day to day. The truly most joyous things were seeing the family having mostly gathered in support of Harthall's place in the city and that of meeting with the Princess Alarissa Thrax. Her little family has grown and is still growing. Harthall is lucky to have in her an trusted ally and I a friend.

I look forward to her little ones coming to visit at the Keep. I will need to be certain to have the courtyard prepped for the arrival and move the possibly poisonous plants up and into raised containers. I have seen how eagerly they dig into things.

When I was a boy, I had one little brother to look out for. I never stopped, but family is more than the blood you share. Family is the bonds of love and choice as much as it is who you're born to. Our parents grant us our beginning, but like the Mother of all Beginnings, they do not define what comes next.

The Grayhope family has known this lesson well, and perhaps they have for as long as we've held the name -- or longer, considering what I've learned about our roots. Your family is who you make of it.

I know that when I passed on the reins of the Grayhopes to Magpie a few years ago I could not have made a wiser choice. He was a good boy - a rascal, but a good boy - and he has grown to be a fine man - a scoundrel, but a fine man. And I make him an exemplar of this, because he has taken that lesson to heart. As the love we've borne him, he has taken it into his heart to reach out to others. The trust and loyalty he's granted to my cousin and protege Mayir as voice and business partner has been worth watching, but family isn't limited by pragmatism. Sometimes, love is the only limit there is

I could not be prouder of Magpie Grayhope and Harper Ashdown for adopting Pie together. He could not have better models for generosity of the heart, nor for filial loyalty and friendship.

This is true devotion to Limerance, granting bonds of love and family where otherwise there were none, and to Gild, in whose name charity is done.

For all our Hopes, gods bless you.

Last night when Captain Marcas inquired about daring drinks and Lady Amari suggested a drinking contest I did not know what would transpire.

Thank you to the very brave and very formidable Missere Captain Marcas Aodh, Lady Amari Keaton, Mistress Nijah and my dearest Archlector Vayne for tasting a very small number of my private collection of daring and rare drinks. Your ability to stand, mostly, after the contest is truly awe inspiring.

My thanks also to Master Draven Bruvir and Wolf Scout Rowenova, as well as my intrepid staff, Missere Master Barkeep Maggnuss, Mistress Lizette, Mistress Anna, Mistress Keiana and Mercy Roan, for their assistance during and after the contest. And to Master Ezekiel for playing his harp so beautifully.

It was a fun night and everyone lived. Thankfully.

I think I shall have to have more such events, and perhaps offer more samplings of the Hart's very special collections.

I've spent a great deal of time this week just napping with my cat. I can understand now why he hunts out those slivers of early morning sun and contents himself there until they move and he has to slink across the floor to renew his basking in their warmth. Such a silly thing but he's rather wormed his way into my heart.

Though I think it is very much true what they say about you not owning the cat but the cat owning you.

I suppose this means I belong to him now.

Things I have learned this week:

~ Some drinks are maybe best left unserved.

~ Good company can bring light to any darkness.

~ Some people are not who they say they promise to be. And, though it can be sometimes disappointing, it is likely a blessing in disguise to find.

~ Some people are not who you or others expect them to be. And that can be the most wonderful thing in the world to learn. Thank you for this.

~ Truly strong people can surprise you with strength you never thought possible.

~ Never underestimate the gifts of trust, friendship, freedom or being kind.

~ True grace and generosity is a gift that should be honoured.

~ I should have more parties and definitely private drinking gatherings.

~ Enduring the Last Sting does not mean it’s the last song of the night.

~ Your path may go in a way you do not expect, but that doesn’t mean you won’t reach where you are supposed to be.

So what you suggest, then, is bring someone else's writings to be assessed by him? I will keep that in mind when someone is foolish enough not to lock their drawers.

So this week I watched people struggle in small boats. Sang (badly), outdrank Brogan (ha!) and then had my ass handed to me with a dead fish. Overall it was a lot of fun, even if after three baths I cannot seem to get rid of that fish smell completely. Ugh.
