Relationship Note on Josephine

Like a magpie who also enjoys reading legends, I've always wanted a piece of Dragonweep. Would that I could expect to win some now, but I'm not going to count on it. Only to let you know that my husband has promised me one of the gems 'someday', likely when I do something very impressive and the house coffers are well to full. When 'someday' arrives, I'll find you.

Now I am jealous. I never got a chance to partake in Brother Driskell's cookies. This definitely feels like a missed opportunity.

One person's joke is another's insult. Humor is not a drink that everyone partakes in. However, I would implore a jokester to ask themselves if their audience is laughing with them or not. For a joke that is one-sided is an insult no matter its intention. If you are the only one laughing in the room, then perhaps you should keep such things to the privacy of your chambers.

A lot of folks snicker when I call Half-Mast by his nickname, but it really is just on account of how I found the man chased half-up a mast when I pulled him off that sinking ship. We don't always see eye-to-eye, but he has taught me a lot about leadership, especially as concerning trying to lead someone who is a whole lot smarter than you are. I'd be lost without him, some days. And he wouldn't be able to reach the high shelves. Or the medium ones. So we make a fine team, really.

When I first got back to Arx, I shook some silver knights around and banged on some doors, but I didn't managed to hunt down the other men and women who used to work with me. Some of them ain't in Arx any longer, and two of them have passed on. An explorer's life can get snapped up just like that, sometimes. Adventuring is a merciless pursuit. I was real happy, yesterday, to get a letter from Too Tall, who is looking to unretire himself and sign back on with the crew. Given the time, I might even get the rest of them.

Last Night at the Golden Hart was very fun, indeed!

We (Master Draven, Sir Floppington, and I) had a nice brunch and lovely convo with the wonderful hostess (Princess Valencia) and all those who showed up!

I 'missed out' on the drinking game (after coming back from work Things), but a fortuitous opportunity came up!

Master Draven kindly offered me our first dance to live music (Harp Music by Master Ezekiel). It is a glorious memory that I will never ever forget!

Relationship Note on Mayir

Working with a partner is a pretty new thing for me, really. I've hired people on before, and been hired on before, but those were all specific term relationships where the responsibilities and the division of the profits were explicitly spelled out at the start, and once the task was concluded, we all went on our way. Traveling as much as I did, there wasn't much opportunity to form lasting relationships, even if I'd wanted to.

But working with Mayir is actually quite fun. We don't necessarily see eye-to-eye on everything, but then, if we did that would be boring. And I suspect that I am the junior partner in this arrangement, just for reasons of still being the newcomer to the city and its markets, not to mention that I am on my own, and Mayir has a larger support network. But even so, he's always courteous and friendly and true. I'd say he reminds me of an Oathlander in that, but he'd probably be offended. For no reason! We are good people, and not nearly as stodgy as most people think us!

It is a good partnership, and a good friendship, too. I like having friends!

Last Night

Last night was fun! I went to the Golden Hart! With Nova! They do not preform heart surgery there! Who knew! They drink instead! Four people tried a contest! Those drinks looked bad! One had a scorpion in it! If anyone is still suffering from those drinks, come see me! I'll help! I like helping! I have anti-venoms! Anti-poisons too!

After some time over a whole year of working hard for the best boss (who ever bossed people around), it is yet another fun day when he says he will pay you even more IF you can beat him up! I came close (but not quite)! One day!

I could outflank the best, but I dislike the minute bits of war. Now I'm just glad that I'm in a position to kill monsters in a way that will matter. As it happens, if you want to kill monsters and make a difference, do let me know. You'lll probably die, but if you don't, I'll make you exceedingly rich. Monster hunters wanted, equipment provided, training not necessary. All I need is a spine and a thrill, and I'll make you rich and famous.

Scorpion venom, liquid dragon fire and cherry bourbon taken together will banish Archlectors, fell Eurusi, stumble Northmen and leave Oathland ladies with headaches, and vague recollections of eloquently spoken dogs, whirling rainbows, and spinning rooms and perhaps some regret for having proposed a drinking contest at the Hart.

For the record.

Dragonweep is always an interesting thing to work with. It comes no need to be cut, which Demetria likes. Because while I am very good at cutting stones, the vast bulk of pieces that are cut are done so by her. But dragonweep. Oh dragonweep. The expense alone means that I never often come across it but I do, now and then. When my patron came to me with his hopes and desires for the raffle in support of the lodge, I knew then what that piece of dragonweep that I had gotten for as song - and it has a lovely song - would finally be getting out of that tray and get to harmonize with the others. Unlike the other gems where I can turn their song, take their displeasure and turn it to happiness just by setting it with that which it wants, the dragonweep never changes. It's song remains sorrowful. So I have to pick pieces that blend with it. I think I have done that. The piece for auction inspired by this silly little story that Master Derovai showed me. A dragon's hand clutching at it as if declaring it is his. Those amethysts that surround it have nothing in comparison to the beauty of that dragonweep. But it sings so lovely. So very very lovely and as I sent it away, I know that whomever gets it will have a symphony or choir upon their hand, it was so loud.

Guildmaster Joscelin's work is breathtaking and she is exceptionally accommodating. I once saw a brooch in her shop, though they had been advertised as more affordable pieces for those who might not often buy such luxuries. When I inquired if she might make a similar piece in silver, she seemed quite happy to do so and I have worn it every day since.

Dearest Adoptive Grandparents,

You will be happy to know that I have added another person to the small list that I feel comfortable with. She is quite nice and gentle. I enjoy her company.

Also, Princess Coraline is doing some fighty things so I decided to follow her to where she is going to be. I am not skilled at fighting but she insists I have armor and I am confident she will not let me die.

I just wanted to check in.

With love,
Sheena

Dearest Scholars,

I've decided to try out making ciders. My Adoptive Grandparents sent me the recipes they used as well as the ciders they had made. They have a lot of recipes and a fair amount of made ciders. I just need to figure out what each type they sent me is.

With regards,
Sheena
