You have thirteen cats?

Lady Margret tells me that in about two weeks we will be parents! It is hard to wrap mind around such a thing, even when I am so huge with this baby right now. To have him or her here is so--even I can't find the right words for it! I am filled with such joy and anticipation and fear all combined at once!

I just can't wait!

My return from the north has been as sweet and warm as a cup of tea with honey. I know that may clash with the image some have of the Redrains -- perhaps the visual of a cup of tea and honey sipped while wearing bear pelts and a crown of antler horns would fit that image better, but tea and honey nonetheless.

And of course, not a small amount of fine northern whiskey. We are Redrains, after all.

My sisters and cousins, either by blood or by bond, as much as I love the north, it is not home without my favorite people in it.

O, and let it be known, Artur is now the Pajama Prince (you're welcome).

It has been an interesting week for me as I return to the city. I joined myself to the Crimson Blades in the hopes of making friends and of course money. Most weeks that would be the most exciting thing that has happened but not this one! I've also worked with the rest of our House and allies to curtail Pirate activities in our waters. Nothing is as it appears though and this brought more questions than answers. I suspect there is no end to my interesting weeks in the near future.

A number of individuals took time out of their busy schedules to relax at the Empirical for a Salon-hosted gathering. Many words were exchanged, in some cases many more drinks were consumed, and I'm especially happy to say that everyone remained rather mature in their discussion. While there were certainly differences of opinion as there always will be during such things; ideas were attacked and not the people speaking them.

The points of view varied greatly. Ranging from Grandmaster Caspian Wild's more hands-on approach to conflict resolution to great insights presented by Lady Lailah Bisland with her fine combination of idealism coupled with pragmatism. There were many points of view, stances, or beliefs put forward. While I can't recall whether Princess Roxana ever remembered what was being discussed, I'm certain she was deep into her cups on account of my not being entirely confident that she even knew who I am.

Marquessa Sunniva Harthall, Lord Luis Igniseri, and Lady Ouida Harthall each provided views that ranged from the scholarly to personal. Each one had an impact on the discussion, especially those who presented more graphic explanations or examples supporting their stance. Let us not forget the keen observations of Lady Isabeau Telmar on the topic of diplomacy and warfare, her own words further reinforcing the intertwined nature of the two concepts. Princess Katarina Valardin put her passion for debate on display and rose above expectations to truly invest herself in the discussion.

I count the meeting as a success and look forward to the completion of Lady Lailah Bisland's trophy. I do hope that everyone involved, in particular those who won't earn a trophy, are prepared for the next debate: whether or not participation awards should be provided as consolation prizes to those who don't make the grade.

Thirteen is a perfectly fine amount for a number of things.

That number, however, does not include cats.

Or children.

The babies almost certainly ate their mother as well.

There are times for sweet moments to teach children about life and death and the cycles therein.

And then there are times to get a bucket of hot water, some good, harsh soap and a sturdy brush.

I think you may have found the line between.

Spiders are wonderful little crafters and artists, aren't they? Their webs look like diamond necklaces when they're dappled with dew. Diamond necklaces that catch flies.

All this talk about wills. I don't really have anything to leave anyone.

But if someone in the Physicians could look out for Triage? He's a dopey cat but he's sweet.

I don't want him to have to go back to the streets if I die.

He deserves better than that, I think.

I have had so many letters flow into Darkwater Reach that I've had a horrible time keeping up with them all. If you have written and I haven't responded yet, I will most assuredly be getting back to you soon.

Know that I am honored by the generally sweet and welcoming way I've been greeted and that I am making it a point to write to everyone personally and thank them.

A quiet day, spent thinking and enjoying some quiet time. Followed by a fun discussion with my cousin Alban and Lady Liliana. The swinging was much appreciated, it is always lovely to have someone to push the swing while we are enjoying relaxing on it.

I have drawn a conclusion: I think about half of the Compact, in some way, works for Minister Rook.

My patrol has been in the City Center for the last several weeks. Dumpling and I have spent quite a lot of time watching and watching over the ebb and flow of goods and services. I have noted the comings and goings, the rise and fall of prices, jostling, haggling. It's as if I'm watching the life of Arvum flow - but instead of blood, it's silver.

The veins that blood flows on are roads. I'm resolved more than ever to make this Great Roads project a success. If you haven't heard of it - and you'd like to - please write a messenger. The project would benefit from contributors from literally every walk of life. Roads literally and figuratively stitch the Compact together.

I have a newfound respect and, perhaps, adoration for spiders upon learning they eat wasps. As well, I am glad the baby spiders have a home in which they might grow and not test out the denoted newfound respect I claim here.

The Voice of Halfshav
Vala of the Northlands
My Sister

Some short time ago she was tending to a great blight on the land. It was night and a mountain lioness tainted by the corruption lept from the shadows. I saw it, I dove, and down we went. Eventually, while I was being nearly mauled to death she put an arrow through its throat and Mirk rallied the soldiers to stab it before hauling it off me. It was very big.

I recount this story because while I may dive headlong into danger (and other things) for my family or due my own mistakes. My family is always there to see that it does not end in disaster.

Also for those curious she has not stabbed me or bludgeoned me with her new staff. I must be doing something right?

One of the consequences of language is the ability to express things that are true or false, is that it is also possible to be mistaken or to tell lies. Indeed, you might also almost say that the ability to tell lies is one of the characteristics that separate Men from beasts.

No one is capable of telling the truth who is not also capable of telling lies.

I embarked on this venture to learn the roots of my past. There are things that I discovered that caused me to drown in bottles of whiskey. Though, there is also light. I have also discovered other things that make me want to drink in celebration! Whiskey is good for all occasions! I will not write all these things here. I am still processing the vast bits of information that I have learned.

I had never before been to a Rite of Gloria, much less been part of one. Thus being able to do one with someone I highly admire and respect was a very real honor.
