Tradewinds Kite Festival
Meanwhile, to the east, the area has been set up for a free-for-all kite battle in the skies of Arx. The rules here are that competitors cannot physically touch anyone else to interfere with their kite, but otherwise, the idea is to make everyone else's kite crash while keeping yours aloft.
Refreshments have been set up by Bold Espressions accompanied by Redrain fare to keep the event a boisterous and cheerful affair. The gazebos nearby are available for retreat for softer conversation. At one of the gazebos is a judging booth for the most decorative kite.

Waldemai arrives with a kite made in the traditional way of the youth of Southport, which is to say, badly.
Zephirine arrives, following Talwyn.
3 Tyde Houseguard arrives, following Lethe.
Waldemai is standing with the others, holding a kite make in traditional Southport style.
There are already several children that are out in the greens, flying their kites and having a fun time. Among them, Thorley is with his wife and a young girl. "I need to go speak. I'll be back soon." he comments, before he moves to stand at the small alcove. "Welcome, all!" he greets out as he draws in a breath. "The Tradewinds Festival is meant to celebrate the return of warmer air and fair breezes to spread the growth of flowers and plants. Please, join the different events, the kite fighting will start soon. If you want to casually fly instead, speak with Princess Gweena Redrain." He pauses for a moment, and then adds. "If you would consider a small donation, that is not necessary, of five resources of your choice to be donated into both the Redrain and Crimson Blade general funds. Thank you." With that, he steps down to go start the kite-fighting event.
Kites? Perronne is definitely there. She's got a big, bright blue kite cut in the shape of a hawk. A...bright, blue hawk with wings painted with something sparkly. She comes looking determined, and gives a little cheer at the directions before the kite flying has even started, and then moves towards the kite fighting area.
Waldemai has a small wad of writs in his pouch and hands a few of the to the designated person.
Felicia's perhaps a little somber for such a bright event. Though the black leather she wears is typical for her, the redheaded Harrow is seemingly inclined to stick with helping some of the children with their kites, a subdued aide to help them get them in the sky and help them keep them there rather than participate herself.
A kite festival rings bells for the Oathlanders. No accidental likelihood of drinking too much, no scantily-clad women hopping about threatening a man's good name. Only wholesome dueling with glass lines to slice through another kite's string, a cutthroat game to be committed with a smile. No one's the wiser! It could be this which lures Talwyn Valardin into the festival. Or maybe he just enjoys seeing things aloft in the air, happy children running about, and the promise of summer coming in a day or two. He strides widely across the green, clearly glad to be out and about.
Gwenna is doing a few last minute things and seems satisfied enough just in time for Thorley to speak. The Redrain is standing near a table with a small variety of various kites in all sorts of colors. Some boast dragons or bears, but others have swords and even ale glasses. Really a bit of something for everyone. Espying her other protege, she gives a cheerful wave in Aethan's direction and then a few others to those continuing to gather. "If you don't have a kite of your own, we have several here," is called with a wave over the previously described table. A warm smile and dip of her head is offered to Waldemai and Perronne when they offer donations. "Thank you ever so kindly."
Aethan arrives sans children, of course, but hopefully that isn't going to be awkward. It probably won't be //more// awkward than the fact that his expression looks like he has never had any fun in his life, much less flying kites, but maybe he just has one of those faces. He does not seem to be inclined to do the kite fighting, though he does look over to where the children are trying to get theirs up in the air, and a little smile touches his face as he gives a nod to Felicia, before the same is offered to Talwyn as he passes. He starts toward Gwenna then, lifting a hand in return. "Will you be fighting?" he asks. "Or just watching?"
Swiftwing, a sharp eyed, red-tailed hawk arrives, following Artur.
Lethe looks with interest at the children flying the kites. She gives a wave to Waldemai. "Hello Waldemai. I like seeing all of the kites flying."
Felicia offers Aethan a nod of her own with a tight kind of smile, shifting to help fling a child's kite into the sky and stepping back to squat for now in silent distraction.
Jasher arrives, similarly lacking a kite. Another curious soul, apparently. He looks around with some bemusement, though he seems to catch on to the concept that's flying at large over their heads. He turns to head towards Gwenna and the table of kites, offering the Redrain woman a respectful nod. "Princess Redrain," he says by way of greeting, and looks at the kites arranged on the table. "Can you explain the nature of this sport?"
Waldemai takes off his cap to speak to the lady. "It's nice to have a nice day for it after that winter, isn't it, my lady." He holds up his own contraption. "Will you be trying one today?"
Okay, so there aren't many kite warriors about. Perronne doesn't seem to mind, after a bit of a sigh. Instead, she starts enthusiastically tossing her kite into the sky, backpedling quickly across the green to try and catch a breeze and lift it up. "C'mon, c'mon, fly..."
Gwenna's smile broadens at Aethan's query and one shoulder lifts in a small shrug. "I have not yet decided, my lord. Kite flyer is not hugely popular in Farhaven, though we used to do it now and again in summer. You know me well enough that anything of a martial nature tends to be a struggle," she notes with a small laugh following. "Still, I may attempt it. Will you? There are lovely trophies..." Apparently the lure of something shiney seems reason enough to the princess. As Thorley moves to attend to some of the regular kite flying, she wonders. "Any one wish to attempt the kite battling? Ah, Prince Jasher, how good to see you again. The sport part is simply getting a kite up in the air and then attempting to knock other people's kites out of it. You can now, however, physically touch them or throw sand. That'd hardly be fair, hmm?"
Perronne has rolled a critical success!

Talwyn has a look upward rather than at all the people, at least at the start. He takes into account the interesting shapes and sounds, laughter and cloth kites swishing through the sky. There is a cutting beauty to it all. He glances down when Gwenna speaks, and nods politely to the Redrain princess. A little more familiar with Aethan, if in passing, and he chuckles. "Are you planning to try for this, or will you just enjoy the experience?"
Bashira was just stopping by to take a peek at things and sneak some sort of treat to Scoundrel, who swipes at the raven maned woman before realizing she's just trying to pay homage to him. He takes the bit of food and gives a purr. But the woman gives a curious look to the kites and she smiles fondly as she leans against the gate for a moment and watches. The Shaman doesn't have a kite with her. Nor does it look like she's hiding one on her person.
Lethe considers as she watches the kites. "I don't know. I think I'll just watch today." She looks with interest at the kite battle.
Perronne's kite catches a lucky breeze, and shoots straight up into the sky, spooling out her string almost to the end. She looks so surprised that she almost loses the thread, then grabs it hastily, and starts trying to guide it around. At Gwenna's call, she dares to take one hand off the string to waves. "I will battle, if there be anyone brave enough to face me in honorable kite combat!"
Thorley checked dexterity + athletics at difficulty 15, rolling 38 higher.
Waldemai waves his elaborate Southport-influenced contraption around. "I'll have a go," he calls.
Artur arrives only a few minutes late and at a slight jog, though Artur tends to run everywhere, so that's no real indication he was in a hurry honestly. Bounding into the botanical gardens with his usual energy, his eyes are immediately drawn upward to the various kites circling and whooshing about overhead with a growing smile. He seems briefly enraptured, simply watching in quiet fascination for a while, before coming back to reality and spotting Gwenna over yonder. Drawing near, the prince will aim a finger at her ribs as he greets her with "Gwennykins" and a laugh.
"Hm." Aethan glances over to the fighting arena after Gwenna's question, and he says, "Maybe I will. I'm not sure. It's been a while since I flew a kite." He nods to Jasher as the other man arrives, as well, saying, "Your Highness," before turning back to Talwyn. "The latter more than the former," he admits, though he does not seem like the sort of man who really enjoys anything, judging by his expression. "Maybe after I see a few other people's skill." With the flat tone he uses, it's difficult to tell if he's joking or not, but there's maybe //slight// humor there. Somewhere.
Unfortunately, Tala has managed to tree her kite. Some complaining from his daughter has distracted Thorley enough that the gruff older knight finds himself climbing the tree to rescue her kite from a squirrel that complains at him about the whole idea of having a kite in //his// tree. Kite freed, Thorley drops back down and lands on the ground. And then he's jogging back over to the group.
Perronne cheers at Waldemai. "Good man! We shall be knights of the sky, valiant and true! We shall crush our enemies and rend their kites from them to dash upon the ground and hear their mourning cries!" She may be a little too enthusiastic about this whole thing, but she does start angling her kite around to make looping, threatening circles towards Waldemai's Southport masterpiece.
Gwenna offers Talwyn a smile when he approaches the table. "Will you be joining, perhaps? It is not swords, of course, but can get quite competitive I hear." Perronne's wave draws the Redrain's attention and she bobs her head, even adopting a bit of what might pass as an Oathland accent, inherited from her mother's side. "Aye, Goodwoman, a good question that! Ah, and I do like the sound of sky knights, I admit." When Waldemai adds his voice, that grin broadens. "Artur!" The call is offered to her brother and a laugh at being poked. "Will you be joining the battle?" Aethan's remarks lead to her lips tugging up a bit higher in one corner than the other. "A fair idea, my lord. Scope out the competition."
"I see." Jasher's blue stare is briefly drawn to Perronne's soaring kite, then back to Gwenna, and the company she's inherited in the meantime. "Doubtless there are many debates on the nature of a 'fair' kite fight," he replies with all due blandness. "I am, unfortunately, not experienced in this battlefield, or in flying kites at all. I suppose I will have to settle on the other side to learn."

Talwyn has joined the an ivy covered ancient bench.
Bashira gives a smile at the contest, but doesn't seem like she's going to be joining in. She's just watching with a look of amusement for the moment and making sure that Scoundrel enjoys his treat. She gives a dip of her head in greeting to those that aren't flying kites. She's not anti-social, just enjoying the sights.
Gwenna inclines her head to Jasher. "Of course, your highness. I thought there was a kite here with a large fish on it," she notes to the Thraxian prince, lips wrinkling in thought. "Well, pick whatever you might like. There are trophies for best general flying as well, though the rules are not as dreadfully strict as with the fighting." Espying Bashira and, perhaps, the familiar garden cat, the princess gives a nod and smile of greeting that way as well.
Felicia drops by to visit Thorley, murmuring her apologies befoer she slips away with a brief grip of his shoulder on her way.
Talwyn paces over to an old bench that looks comfortable, if it plans to actually hold up. He unbuttons his coat and vest to prevent overheating too much. Impressive for someone who looks like a Lycene, and could well be mistaken for that. Waving to Lethe when he passes, he settles in. No running there, when he can sit comfortably. This is the best place to watch the kite slipping this way and that.
Merril, a scholarly adjunct, Warrior, a skittish pygmy goat kid, Axelle, a personal valet leave, following Felicia.
Lethe has joined the an ivy covered ancient bench.
Lethe eagerly watches the kite fighting event but still notices Talwyn wave. She also makes her way over to the old bench.
Waldemai has the vaguely box-shaped whateveritis up in the breeze. It's no fighting falcon by any stretch, but it fends off rival kites fairly easily. He watches one going down in metaphorical flames, and it's the one belonging to the woman who stepped up first. "Oh, hard luck," he calls.
"For sure!" Artur beams when Gwenna asks if he's going to join. He gives a sharp whistle and from...somewhere...a very harassed looking valet appears, bearing a bright blue kite painted with knights on griffinback, with trailing red ribbons hanging from the back of it. "I spent ages on this!" Artur beams, taking hold of the kite from the valet, who quickly finds some reason to excuse himself. Artur wanders over to where some of the other kite duelists are already wheeling around and, after a bit of jogging, has his kite up there in the air with the rest of them.
Jasher nods once. "The suggestion is appreciated." He looks over the table of kites. The one depicting a fish is obvious, and he does give it a good look, but ultimately he passes it on, gingerly picking up a modestly sized one with a stylized depiction of a goshawk.
Aethan watches for another moment or two, before he shrugs, looking back over at Gwenna with a nod, before he starts toward the fighting arena, grabbing a kite. He manages to get it up in the air, so that's good, and though he doesn't really look like he's a champion kite flyer -- //is// there such a thing as a champion kite flyer? Well, after this there will be! -- he does okay. At least, while he isn't the one to cut Perrone out of the sky, he manages to remain in the air. He looks over at Artur as the other man joins, giving him a brief nod, though he's more focused on keeping his own kite in the air at this point.
Aahana arrvives a little late but it is better to come late than to never arrive! Her eyes lighting up in delight as she sees some kites already up in the air. Soon her steps leading her towards the top of the hill where some of the duelists are to get a better view. She comments kindly to Artur "You are flying your kite immensely well. I think I may try my hand at it, never flown one before. Is it difficult?"
Sadly, it is some random child whose kite comes swooping in. Perronne lets out a little gasp, and tugs on her string, trying to avoid the devilish spawn's attack, but no...no. The boy crows as his kite crashes right into the merchant's and they both fall in a heap, tumbling through the sky to land with a thump on the grass. "Alas! Alack! I am undone. Sir, you fought like a lion," she tells the child, solemnly, "and your kite gave your life for your cause. I honor you." And then she salutes him, sending him into giggles, before the two go and try to untangle the kite heap. "Fight bravely, fellow warriors!" she shouts to the others.
"Oh, and it looks like the first up is going to be the first down. But Perronne was very brave for being the first one to volunteer, so we have a special prize for her!" Thorley calls out as he goes to get the Toadstool kite to present to the woman. "For your assistance and service to the Loyal Order of Kites." the knight winks at that, handing her the colorful red and white silk kite. "Fly it well, brave sky knight."
Thorley picks up happy Toad Stool kite.

Gwenna bobs her head and grins at Jasher. "A fine choice, your highness. My room at the villa actually depicts a gyrfalcon. I rather like the majesty of birds of prey. I wish you luck and may even try my hand at some flying in a bit." When Aethan joins in the battle, the princess' smile nearly beams. "Ah, as a man of the sea, I suspected you might have a good eye for the winds, my lord. Nice flying." When Perronne's kite finds itself dramatically in the sands, she wrinkles her nose. "Alas indeed!" Aahana's arrival is met with another one of those cheerful waves, but the battle of kites remaining tug her attention again. "You, too, are a wonder of kite flying, brother," she calls to Artur.
Jasher nods at Gwenna, lips pulling straight in the memory of a smile, before quietly heading over to the western area. He regards his kite, the others' flying kites, and the mechanism of his own. Gingerly, he loosens the slack on the string and, with some quick strides, catches a draft. The goshawk soars.
There's a wave to acknowledge her prize, but Perronne spends just a few minutes more helping the boy who crashed her kite put his own kite back together, pulling a small knife from her belt, and cutting her kite string into lengths that let her tie a broken support back together. "There we've got it," she tells the boy with a wink. "Just don't go suicide diving into anyone else, and she should be good for today!" She picks up her kite and trots over to Thorley to claim...a new kite. Her eyes light up. "Oh, wow, this is great! Best prize!" Then she's off, moving out of the competitive field to start setting her new, shroomy kite to the sky. Seeing Jasher, she laughs, and waves, looking perhaps a little surprised.
Waldemai uh oh...oh no...The box-like structure folds up and falls Arx-ward with a very unpleasant sneezing and wheezing. *Cah-RUNCH* "I'll get you for this." He shakes his fist at the other combatants, but from teh broad smile on his face it's clear he's joking.
To describe Artur as being 'into this' would be something of an understatement. The Redrain Prince runs around the area set up for the kite battle like a man possessed, providing verbal sound effects for each dip and swoosh of the kite as he does. He finds time to call out a "Good job!" and offer a grin to Perrone and the child who brought down her kite. There are a few narrow scrapes, but Artur is still aloft and swooshing around dramatically, his griffin-mounted knights sweeping back and forth across the battlefield! How glorious! He shoots a look over his shoulder when Gwenna calls over to him, flashing her his very brightest of grins, Aahana gets one too!
Aahana offers a warm smle and wave hello to Gwenna and offers kindly to her "He is a wonder with it. If I had arrived on time, I surely doubt my kite would still be up there. Never even flown on before." Soon softly giggles are hidden by her hand at Waldemai's teasing response before she offers a grin back to Artur.
"The kite was donated by Aviana Bertram - feel free to messenger her." the knight offers as the kites go round and round in the sky, Thorley is keeping an eye on them. "The Pride of Southport looks like it may be in trouble after it's near kill of the First Sky Knight!" And then there goes Waldemai. "And now there are only two left! Who will be crowned the champion of the kite battle." Though he's also trying to encourage. "If you're wanting to have your kite flight judged for creativity, let Princess Gwenna know!"
Aethan glances at Gwenna when she speaks and there's another little almost-smile, but he can't look at her too long, since clearly, he's flying the kite and can't spare much for small talk. That's definitely why he doesn't do it. He keeps it in the sky, though, with no fancy tricks or anything of the sort. His flying isn't the most entertaining, but he's getting results. But it's okay, because Artur is totally bringing the entertainment for all of them.

Well, it's Jasher's first flight. One can't be blamed for his brief loss of control, the goshawk veering dangerously near another innocent kite. With a yank, the prince drags his own out of the line of fire.
Perronne gets her kite - her NEW kite - back up in the air. It seems the gentler pace suits her kite-flying skills, as she easily gets the mushroom up in the air, and then begins doing lazy figure eights in the air, maneuvering in her little space to catch the wind. Her head is turned, though, to catch the more combative flying and cheer on...everyone, really.
Gwenna's nose wrinkles as Waldemai's box kite takes a dive, but the man's 'threat' and broad smile draw a small laugh. "Congratulations on your third place win," is called over and she has someone bring the man his shiny trophy. Artur's grin keeps that bright smile on her face, of course. "Nor I, Lady Aahana. Well, not for many years and I was a girl then. It seems things are often easier when we are children, hmm?" She turns back to watch her brother and other protege duke it out in the skies.
Waldemai accepts his trophy. "I can put this with my snowball fight scarf," he says with obvious delight.
Aethan's expression seems to indicate that he's taking this a //lot// more seriously than one probably should take a kite flying contest, but maybe that's helpful in keeping his kite in the air! However, that's before he tries to cut Artur's out of the sky. It does not work. Well...that's not entirely accurate. He manages to start to bring Artur's down, but his goes down with it, and a lot more quickly. There's a wry laugh as he crashes well before his opponent that belies that serious expression from before -- maybe he's just a serious person. "Well fought," he says as he turns to the Redrain prince, as sincere as though they'd just completed a spar, and not a kite battle.
Waldemai applauds the winners...er...the two who lost last.
Noooo! Okay, Artur was sort of asking for this, tearing down the battlefield at breakneck pace in an attempt to dodge Aethan's attacks and singing at the top of his lungs 'durrr derrrr dun dun derr derrrrrrr...." (it's an old Thraxian tune, obviously) which is right when he trips over a stone and falls flat on his face, totally eating dirt for his trouble! It doesn't seem to dampen his spirits too much, since by the time he sits back up he's laughing raucously and looking around for his fallen kite. There it is...sky blue silk now besmirched by dirt and it's ribbons atangle. "Alas brave skylancers!" the prince laughs, hopping to his feet and wobbling just a little, before turning to Aethan and offering a "Well fought!" right back at him!
Perronne cheers for the final valiant few. "A hard-won victory, and some great flying! All hail the conquering sky-king!" She tries to get the nearest group of children to start cheering. They're kids - it's not hard, really.
The last two kites go down together, and Thorley makes the call. "Prince Artuur managed to keep his kite up just a moment longer, and is the winner of the kite fight!" Glancing over at where the casual fliers are, he gestures to Jasher and Perronne, where the pair are flying beautifully.
Jasher seems intently focused on keeping his kite steady more than any attempt at competing with Perronne's figure eights and loopy loops. The goshawk seems an irascible thing, fighting the prince's directives at every turn, a defiance that lends a furrow of focus on his brow. Somehow it remains flying.
Talwyn has left the an ivy covered ancient bench.
Zephirine leaves, following Talwyn.
Lethe claps for Artur. "That was a great kite fight. I'm glad I came to see it."
Gwenna raises both hands to cover her mouth as the battle between Artur and Aethan gets down to the wire. It's going to be close! She can't even cheer because how can she between two people so dear to her? Then the battle is decided in the flair and seriousness of which both men seem to possess, respectively. Lowering her hands to clap for them both, she has the trophies sent over to each of them. "A glorious battle! Congratulations to you both and, truly, to all of you who so bravely sent your kites to the mercurial winds of Arx," she declares, the grin still hitching up the corners of her mouth. With the excitement concluded, her attention returns to the more casual flyers a moment before she glances at the kites yet available for people to pick up. "Ah, Sir Thorley, what a wonderfully run event! I think is was my and Artur's mother who brought a kite to Farhaven after visiting the Oathlands, actually, when we were children."
Aahana gasps in surprise as both of the kites go down at the same time. Then applauding as Artur wins and happily says "You fought that wonderfully!" Then to Aethan she says "You both did! At least what I was able to be able to witness!"
Gwenna is overheard praising Farshaw: Kite Festival!
Aethan can't help but laugh with Artur's enthusiasm. It's not a //big// laugh, sure, but it's a laugh! It's real, it happened. You all saw it. He nods once, giving the other man a cursory glance to make sure there was no permanent damage, before he goes to untangle his kite string, and passes it to one of the children watching, who clutches it to his chest with the glee that one //should// give a kite. He then turns to Gwenna and accepts his trophy. Sure, there's a raised eyebrow, and a slightly skeptical look, but he doesn't try to give it back. No sir. "I'll put this next to the basket," he says.
Gwenna is overheard praising Redrain: Kite Festival!
Lethe has left the an ivy covered ancient bench.
3 Tyde Houseguard leaves, following Lethe.
Perronne is overheard praising Redrain: A delightful and fun festival to celebrate the return of summer!
Perronne is overheard praising Artur: He won an honorable kite battle!
Perronne seems to have calmed down remarkably once the fighting spirit has been drained from her blood. Instead, she's just idly flying her kite, trying out the occasional trick, but with most of her attention on the people running around, having fun.
Artur grins brightly when he gets his trophy handed to him and holds it aloft, for all the world as though he just slew the princess and saved the dragon...or something like that. There's a happy laugh and a theatrical bow as Perrone gets the kids cheering. and another grin shot in the direction of the noble first runner up! Heading back over to Gwenna with trophy in one hand and his stricken kite tucked under one arm he offers an amused grin as he declares "I'm going to have 'Kept it up longest' engraved on it" before erupting into another merry laugh.
Waldemai can be heard strangling a laugh at that last crack.
A laugh almost literally erupts from Gwenna at Aethan's words. "Perhaps another object of good luck," she wonders cheerfully of the Kennex. "Have you ever met my brother before? Your enemy upon the battlefield is none other than Prince Artur, long-suffered elder brother. I suspect you both have much in common." The princess can hardly keep the knowing smile from her lips. Watching both Perronne and Jasher again, she moves a bit closer to the casual flying area to better watch. Loopdi-loops! And focused flying as well, it seems. "How are the winds? They seem manageable enough," is wondered of the pair and then she glances around to see what Waldemai might be up to. It is Artur's remark that makes her laugh outright once again. "Son of a motherless bear, Artur!" Maybe it's she who is long-suffered!
Waldemai, as it happens, is picking up the scraps of his kite. "Still fit for kindling," he says, cheerfully. "Always a use for everything."
"Princess Gwenna, do you want to award the flight trophies?" Thorley prompts gently as he finishes his tallying of the kite fight and can't help but to laugh at the banter.
"Briefly, once," Aethan says of whether he's met Artur before, and he inclines his head to the Redrain prince now that they are no longer battling. He lets out a little snort oat Artur's words, too, and adds, "Accurate, if not something to tell your grandchildren. Good to see you again, Your Highness." He steps a little bit back from the kite arena now, sticking his empty hand in his pocket, the other still holding his own trophy. "It seems you're doing well."
"The winds are fine! Arx has a lovely breeze to it," Perronne declares. "I'm not competing, though," she points out, hastily. "I already joined a contest and was honorably defeated! But this is a lot of fun, Your Highness. It was a lovely idea."
Jasher wanders as his kite wanders, dancing to the breeze more than any agency on the Thraxian prince's part. Jasher seems to have more or less settled into his role of seeing the goshawk spread its wings--figuratively speaking--and watching the breeze take it here and there, occasionally pulling to get it out of the way of other kites.
A messenger arrives, delivering a message to Artur before departing.
"That is the spirit," Gwenna offers to Waldemai with a chuckle. Apparently the Redrain was all caught up watching and laughing that she forgot that there were yet more trophies to be awarded. "Ah, Sir Thorley, my apologies. The fighting was just so exciting I suppose I lost myself in it all," is admitted. Clearing her throat, the Redrain adopts her more official smile of state, such as it is, and then makes the announcement. "Prince Jasher Thrax, your steady hand on the wings of a goshawk have earned you second place. My congratulations! And, forgive me Goodwoman," this said to Perronne. "If you introduced yourself I missed it, but it seems not only have you won bravest first Kite Knight, but also First Place best flyer!" Again, Gwenna has the trophies brought over to the winners. "Sir Thorley, I think it only proper your daughter bring home third. She spent half the morning helping to check the kites and even tested some."
Florian arrives, following Derovai.
"I would be honored to deliver the trophy to Tala, Your Highness." Thorley offers, a small laugh as his cheeks go ruddy. "Thank you." he accets the trophy. "It will be proudly displayed with her mother's trophies."
Jasher blinks once as the declaration is made, clearly caught off-guard. Nonetheless, he accepts the trophy with solemn seriousness even as his other hand firmly keeps his kite where it is.
Still clutching his own trophy, Artur drifts with the others in the direction of the casual fliers and watches in fascination as they loop and swoosh much more sedately than the battling kites. As Gwenna announces the winners Artur claps enthusiastically and lets out a loud hoot of approval, never one to be accused of being less than enthusiastic. At some point a messengers arrives, bringing Artur a slip of paper that he quickly reads and then folds away with a nod of his head.
Perronne blinks. "Oh, but I wasn't--" but then she's handed a trophy, and ooooh, it's shiny. She gives Jasher a slightly guilty look, and pets her trophy with her free hand. "Thank you, Your Highness." She juggles kite string and trophy to curtsy. "And I am Mistress Perronne Amboise! Merchant extraordinaire, and purveyor of fine antiques to the discerning eyes of the Compact!" That's said just loud enough to carry, because why waste a chance to promote?
Aahana sighs as her attention is called away by messengers. Quietly slipping out and making her way to go and tend to them.
