Relationship Note on Talen

Talen's father was a great man. He was a man that didn't hesitate to save my life, at the cost of his own. His sacrifice will not be forgotten, and in order to honor him I agreed to raise Talen in our household. In many ways, Talen is like a son to me. He is the Sword of the Velenosa, and he does a fine job in that position. He is loyal to a fault, in particular to Esera and he certainly makes for a fine protector of my daughter. Duties made me miss a lot of his childhood, but it pleases me to see the man he has become.

I won that spar. Victus Thrax can cry all he wants about it not being true, but it ended with him on his ass before he pitched a little fit and stated it was over. And the Pravus woman, she was just trying to show off; she thinks she has style, but the shavs don't care if you've got style.

Whiny bastard. That's what Victus Thrax is. And I don't care if he ever sees that written down, it's truth enough. Oh, the mirrormask is crazy, boo hoo. Oh, she accused me of killing Alessandra, boo hoo. He doesn't listen to common sense. Maybe he did kill her. That too personal for this?

Relationship Note on Alaric

His Majesty Alaric Grayson, Fourth of His Name, King of the Compact, high lord of House Grayson and the Crownlands, Prince of Bastion, Sovereign of Arx, and ruler of Arvum is weak. That this surprises the other lords of the Compact is a testament to how worthy of contempt they truly are, as their own lands are menaced by shavs they lack the will to exterminate. The Tragedy at Sanctum occurs, the prince of Sanctum is slain, and what does our king do? He sends his condolences. I'm certain the Abandoned were dutifully impressed by his mettle.

It is to such a man that I married my beloved niece Princess Genevieve Thrax, to make a queen of her and to see a child of Thrax and Grayson blood sit upon the Elfbone Throne and rule with Thraxian strength over his entire dominion of Arvum. But even in the simple matter of getting a woman with child and protecting her, the boy was overestimated. My niece died in a 'tragic fall' in the palace, no sooner than I received word she was child, and again, I am presented with condolences. His sorrow. His profound regrets.

I have little use for condolences, even less for sorrow, and none at all for regrets. So I have come to Arx to call him to account and the boy flees the city upon my arrival. Going on a 'retreat'. How profoundly accurate. Still, he cannot be long missing from Arx, and I shall be waiting. With anticipation.

Relationship Note on Brianna

She has a fair bit of skill for someone untested. I'll admit that I generally don't mind being tackled to the ground if I get to look up at that kind of view, either. Heh. Leave the fuck off the nicknames, though. Whoever ends up married to her is probably going to be driven insane and wrestle a bear just to get away for a bit.

Relationship Note on Alessandra

We had fun for a while, but now she's gone and that marks the end of that. No use dwelling on things like what could've been. Enjoy yourself, wherever the fuck you are.

That spar I promised Brianna Halfshav, we had that. Didn't last that long, but we'll blame that on the fucking audience. Let's get to that in a bit. First a few notes on Brianna; the girl might be green and untested, but she knows how how to wield those axes of hers. She's quick, skilled, and managed to tag me in the first pass. Didn't see that coming, if I'm honest. Didn't realize a woman could look quite so fuckable while wanting to brain me, either, but there you go. Even if it still felt utterly damn wrong to trades blows with a woman. Now about the audience? Damn, Isolde Velenosia is one crazy woman. If she'd been a man, those words would've been killing words. Fuck her!

Relationship Note on Luca

Luca seems determined to suck the enjoyment out of any room he's in. His dedication to not caring about anything or anyone would be almost admirable if it didn't tend to also make it all but impossible to get anything interesting out of the man. I think he really needs a wife, perferably a crazy one.

Relationship Note on Brianna

I first encountered Brianna in the Ambassador where she proudly announced to Valencia that she could 'take me.' I'm sceptical of the claim but do admit I'm slightly wary to face her in the dueling arena, I hear Northerners bite and you can catch all sorts of nasty things from that.

Relationship Note on Victus

I've seen Victus in the training yard a few times now, he's obviously capable and strong as a bull, but really needs to work on developing that personality. I suppose nobody hires a Thraxian for their charm.

Relationship Note on Isolde

I have not seen Isolde in a long time, it's fair to say she's changed. I must say I enjoy her however, she's very willing to stir the pot and make life more interesting, and I appreciate that in a person.

Another day and I am up before the sun. It is truly a wretched thing. Routine stretches and then a jog before breakfast. Yay, I chimed to the innkeep, porridge again. He, of course, remained motionless and without expression. The man is either extremely dense or an idiot savant. Time will surely tell.

I then spent time choosing what I would wear for the day, a most arduous task, and then I brushed my hair. After this, I happened to receive an invitation to lunch with Lord Victus Thrax. It was an hour or so well spent as it meant a meal of fine quality. The man is a truly adroit conversationalist. I simply cannot wait to enjoy high society and fine theatre with him.

Speaking of, imagine my surprise when, later that evening, I received a second invitation out from none other than the priestess of the Thirteenth, Isolde. We walked her garden, which was a delightful indulgence in nostalgia for me. I'll be more than happy to take tea or wine with her in the future. She isn't the only noble personage I had the pleasure of meeting, however. Though brief, I shared a few words with prince Aurelian. The scholar was almost painfully polite, but what else can you expect?

A real charmer, this one, yet I have to wonder - was what I saw but a reflection of myself and all that I wished to see?

Relationship Note on Brianna

An introduction that involves breaking your own man's nose is something I'm unlikely to forget. Does she have to be so tall, though? I mean, really, it's one thing to look up at a tall man, but quite another to have to crane the neck for another woman.

Relationship Note on Victus

I'll never forget the moment I first saw him - hair glistening in the bright summer sun, spilling water all down his beard. And then he lifted his shirt. If that wasn't enough, he knows just what's required for a proper conversation: listening to me.

Relationship Note on Arianwen

You'd kind of have to be hard up to be from the Boroughs and not know who Arianwen is, really. Even when I was at seas, I'd scoff every damn time that I heard someone say that they were going to make their fortune and come back and sweep her off her feet and wed her somehow. Haven't seen anyone land it yet, though I can't help but be a little curious what would do the trick for her - it has to be something. She has an air about her, that true-to-the-blunted-word, but craftier-than-you-think kind of thing and there's no one in the Boroughs who can offer such a welcoming brew-and-stew combination. But one would be a fool to mistake her willingness to serve, greet and stir up business or coin for not being saavy herself. The Grayhopes have a certain aura where there's some lines that you don't cross and while they might give respect, it's undoubtedly with the intent that it be mutual.

There aren't too many people I find amusing even when they aren't standing their two feet right in front of me. Father isn't. I suppose Kieran is, but that boy has too much energy in him not to be. The fact that Victus is surprised me. Maybe I'm just amused by a man with a foul attitude on life.

I don't understand the Thraxian ideal. Sure, father's tried to make me into some sort of model noblelady, but he's never tried demanding I stop with the axes and sit down and find myself a husband and take care of Whitehold. Think I'd rather be a shav than deal with that sort of bullshit. How can their women stand it? Life's no fun if you can't run around with the boys and get dirty sometimes.

Valencia would cut my hand off if she saw me writing that one, I think. Better not repeat that out loud.

When not surrounded by pretty redheads whose asses it would be a shame to ignore, but as a soldier you have to, Edain isn't nearly as incompetent as he first appeared. Watched him in his drills, and he knows his business. Whether that translates to war, who knows? He reminded me I have promised him a spar. Brianna did, too. Unrelated, apparently the un-Redrain Valencia Redrain is throwing a boxing tournament. Don't plan on signing up; that sort of thing is for men (and I guess women) who still need to prove themselves, or just need the coin. Fuck getting my face smashed in for other people's fucking entertainment, that's what I think. I'll try to make sure I got the time to attend, though. I enjoy other people getting their faces smashed in for **my** entertainment. Hm. I wonder if by marrying Valencia Redrain you also get to fuck her whole pretty entourage? Should this be in my white journal? Probably not. Fuck it, though, its a legitimate question.

It's time. I can't be remaining a simple tavern wench for much longer. I just hope dear Chanse will let me go. Anyway, I ain't about to live out me prime years singing bawdy songs to drunken sailors. They'll be finding other girls to take me place in their lyrics. Me? I'm gonna be a courtysan! All proper like and wearing the prettiest of pretty dresses. The courts of the noble folk ain't gonna know what hit them. Just need to find meself a patron or two. Shouldn't be hard, right? I know me own songs and I can dance pretty neatly, and more men than I can count have complimented me looks. Short of acting all elegant and confident and the like, I'm practically a courtysan already!

Think I'll be finding someone to loan me a dress, so I can look the part. Also, I've seen all sorts of dandy folks followed to an fro by burly men of arms. Mayhaps that loan will pay for the same, and I'd just be needing one of those smart teachers to teach me how to be all well and proper. I won't forget the Crow, and especially dear old Chanse. He'll be getting what I can get, or at least a part of it. I'm not about to just say bye and forget him for silky scarves and neat earrings. If I can't be finding good work on me own, I'll make the Whispers and their lot turn me into one of them. The fees can be too great, and they take children anyway. Anyway, time's a wasting. Here's to a happy new courtysan life!

Curious bear, isn't he? Laughs sometimes at strange things. He grows on you a bit, doesn't he? Like a fungus, or moss on the trees, annoying but vaguely pretty. Shame he's Thraxian, don't you think?

A strange woman for sure, likely going to eventually steal my purse if I make her mad enough, but as yet she is interesting to talk with, was going to hire her at one point to be my 'social diverter' to keep people from bothering me when I didnt want it.
