Prince Donrai Thrax
No one practices self-deception half as well as nobles that speak of justice or fairness. House Thrax has no such illusions. The strong do as they can and the weak suffer as they must.
Obituary: Found murdered in his chambers on October 12, 1005 AR. Two guards also slain, by means of a cut throat. Before body was cold, Lord Victus Thrax dueled Prince Dagon Thrax in an unprecedented challenge for the right to rule Thrax. Victus declared victor, spared Dagon to become the new Duke of House Tyde. Murderer of Prince Donrai Thrax, Prince of Maelstrom, yet unfound.
Description: In his youth, portraits were painted of Donrai Thrax frequently, as is expected for the handsome young scion of one of the five great houses. They all showed a strikingly handsome man, of smooth skin and sharp features, but not in one case did any of those portraits succeed in making the attractive man look truly welcoming. His deep blue eyes always looked just a touch too cold, and the thin, cruel line of his lips never threatening to turn into a smile, every portrait presented austere dignity with just a hint of menace. And that's precisely how the vain, old man prefers to be remembered now. Prince Donrai Thrax has not been seen without a mask in public in years. Concealed head to toe, typically in plate mail and carried in a litter due to his advanced age, the prince refuses to permit anyone to see the extent of his aged infirmity. But those deep blue eyes are still as cold as always.
Personality: In a word, 'dangerous'. Ruthless and determined, time has done little to dull the sharpness of Prince Donrai's mind or manner. He is prone to succint, even curt answers, with a cool, regal bearing that does not invite easy familiarity and provides little help to House Thrax's dubious reputation. The rare times the wizened old man seems amiable, even friendly, it meets limited success- most assume (correctly, more often than not), that it is not for a reason they'll enjoy.
Background: Prince Donrai Thrax has been the ruler for House Thrax so long that many throughout Arvum think of him and House Thrax interchangeably, which is just how the ancient prince likes it. Ascending to high lord at a young age, several generations of Thraxians have only known his coldly capable, ruthlessly competent rule. Donrai has never set out to be loved by his people, and there's little doubt in that he has succeeded- but he is respected, as a cold and relentlessly determined leader ever seeking to carve out greater strength for House Thrax no matter the cost to others.
