Relationship Note on Sophie

A Disciple of Lagoma, and a sliver of peace within the Valardin family. As any good Knight-In-Training in liable to do, Alis suffered any number of injuries that needed healing. And Sophie is the healer she would unfailingly seek out whenever she was available and in Arx to do so. And the day Alis' found out about the deaths of so many in her family, Sophie was instinctively the person she sought out to cling to that she knew would not judge her for the moments of weakness as she wept.

There's nothing quite like southern wine, and southern company. Add some of my favorite Northland family members to the mix, and the party was exactly what I needed. Beautiful, relaxing, and in some moments absolutely hilarious. The highlights, as I recall them:
1. Prince Luca offering his arm to Talen. It was so ridiculously gallant. Talen was a class-act in getting around it.
2. Princess Ophelia murdering the avian intruders in the garden maze. I'd worry if she wasn't such a sweetheart.
3. Duke Vercyn establishing the Northern duchy of Sideline. I wonder if we'll lay down claim upon the benches of future gatherings?

All in all, it was a lovely night with beautiful lanterns, people, and music, a true testament to Lycene sensibilities.

Relationship Note on Nadia

Forget everything I said about her before. Duchess Nadia Nightgold is much more than I took her to be at first glance. She's not simply pretty, she actually has a sense of decorum that is all her own, and not simply a Northern approximation of southern sensibilities. She's clever and witty and I don't find myself making up excuses to escape her company, which is rare these days. My patience isn't what it used to be.

Relationship Note on Esera

The newly crowned Archduchess, Esera is Duke Niccolo and Granduchess Carlotta Velenosa's daughter. She is also the sister to Princess Isolde. These two women could not be more different, but in a good way. Esera is regal and polished in a manner that is unlike her sister. She carries a lot of responsibility on her shoulders and she seemingly is taking her mother's death very hard. Her mask is not like Isolde's. This is an invisible mask she wears to let her people know she will protect and defend them at all costs. The woman is also beyond stunning. How could anyone ever deny her what she wants. I might be slightly jealous...in a good way.

Haven't had as much fun at any tournament that I can recall. Usually I don't like them, at least not the ones with jousting as their center pieces. I find them to be an opportunity for self important shitstains with a knighthood to prance around on their fucking horses and show off. But something about this one had me in a roaring good mood. The wine, the company, the momentary threat of a bloody fucking riot, the fact that my purse was a couple of thousand pieces heavier at the end of the night. All of it was a fucking delight.

How about Talen cheating, though? Did he think Calista was going to ignore it, knowing Kima's a Southport vassal and Southport and Tor being hardly friends? Perhaps. Heh. It would've been funny if she had, even if Kima nearly drew her sword on Talen as it is.

Don't see why anyone was so surprised, though. Didn't he pull off some dirty tricks against Viviana, too? Sure fucking did. This time it worked better, even if he got disqualified.

I wonder what it's like having a little sister who could beat you up? Almost makes me feel sympathetic for Edain. Almost. Should've seen him flinch when I asked if she bullied him on the training field the way she bullied the others in the melee.

Relationship Note on Esera

I have hardly met a more enchanting woman in my life; that she is so and knows she is such is worrying though. All the more reason I struggle to trust. How can I in a place where everyone's every movement is an attempt upon some sort of endless gain. I digress. She is lovely to look upon though.

Relationship Note on Maeve

I have never struggled so hard to find a woman whom supposedly makes a business of doing exactly what I need her to do. Should I find her, I will be making a split second decision between choking her and kissing her, I imagine (on the cheek, lest someone feel flattered). My wound aches and it makes me act out.

Relationship Note on Morrighan

An interesting servant, to say the least. I don't see the attraction in particular, though she's a pretty enough lass with flaming enough hair. A servant that walks the borderline of too cheeky for their place though is to be carefully watched. It's hard to say though; she might just be the most helpful servant in the known lands and that makes her feel a bit cocky. Or perhaps her behavior is due to working for my aunt. Good work is so hard to find.

Relationship Note on Talen

I heard him speak to me, I must confess. I wanted to reply, to speak to him and wonder at the things he may have offered. There is always room to learn, for a warrior. Perhaps he and I would have traded thoughts on the events of the evening, or perhaps he was simply being amiable because he should, in events where his employer is hosting. None the less, I feel that he is due some idle banter if nothing. Another time, perhaps.

Relationship Note on Valencia

For a woman who speaks powerfully as one of the predominant voices of Redrain, she speaks remarkably little with me. Perhaps I do not suit her refined southern tastes, or perhaps she is busy. There is much still to be heard anew of the family.

Relationship Note on Nadia

A woman of interesting pursuits, I must say. May her eyes flit less to where she pretends, and more to where she steps, and she will find herself all the more powerful given time. I think she knows this, but who is to say.

Relationship Note on Jaenelle

It is rare I meet a person and not immediately feel the need to analyze their every behavior for deceit and intent to manipulate. She was one of few who didn't spark this immediate urge, and I am glad I sat with her at that bench late into the evening to better understand the nature of her original, and current culture. She does her family proud. The family Velenosa will long benefit from her, I feel.

Relationship Note on Talen

He puzzles me. It sounds like the rumors about the treachery of the Velenosians rings somewhat true, and he seems brazen in his tactics, but I do not see the inherent benefit in them. People will not support a dishonorable man, though some may condone it. It will make his victories ill-gotten and weak under scrutiny.

How do I begin? Eloquently? Do I praise Calista Fidante of Tor for hosting a superb tournament? Of course I do, there are times when skirting the truth is simply unacceptable. I'll be addressing truth here today, and how it is often a hard, ugly thing.

The tournament. Jousting; a melee; rich food and fine wine; rich men and women betting in the stands. It was a great day for getting your fill of the decadent cuisine of the Lyceum as well as slaking your thirst for action, if not blood. I watched the melee from a private point, which will get to later, it was phenomenal. In a way, I am glad I choose to sit it out. I believe, that day, I would not have been in the right state of mind while in combat to truly appreciate the participates. From my perch within a lonesome booth, however, I had the chance to play spectator, and examine the combatants with a cooler head.

Ah, did I not mention? I won the joust. What was that? I don't sound entirely thrilled about it? Hearken back to my mentioning of the truth...and hear now my displeasure. I won by default. I won because the Sword of Lenosia cheated, but that isn't the sole reason my victory tastes of bitter ashes in my mouth.

What burns me so is my own foolishness, pure and simple. Talen, after all, clearly asked me if we should show our spectators how things are done within the Lyceum. The point goes to him, for reminding me that, just maybe, I've been away from the south for too long.

Grey Death is being tended to by Prince Edain Valardin's own personal trainers. The man's generosity is most welcome, and I readily confess to my relief - they assure me that Death isn't nearly as bad off as I had feared. The idea of that noble creature being lamed leaves my stomach in knots.

I ended up a champion, to the cheering of some, and some small part of me wishes I could have accepted it with a true graciousness, rather than one feigned. Yet I cannot help but feel as though a win by default is still a loss.

I did not fare as well as I had hoped to in either the joust or the melee which followed it, but it could be considered a painful learning experience of sorts. I am perplexed at why Talen had decided to cheat in a tilt he could have won, and in the open no less; it riled people against him, and made his chances of winning the melee slim. Not sure if he's masochistic, crazy, or a mixture of both - I suspect he isn't stupid, though my mind can be changed.

I don't think I harmed Prince Fergus at all in our duel; I simply wore him down. He blames me for his loss against Alis because of this, but perhaps it's a valid point. I wasn't paying attention to any of the other fighting.

Relationship Note on Darren

Twin brother. Just -barely- older, thank you very much. We literally grew up alongside each other, so he just might know me better than anyone else. Darren was always going to end up high lord - which has always been absolutely more than fine by me - but it wasn't supposed to happen so soon. I may not be the easiest to deal with, brother, but you know above all that I'll fight for our family 'til the end.

Today, I watched a child in the market. She seemed terribly happy to have her bit of bread. She lacked for everything else, but for family, and it made her appreciate her tiny bit of bread all the more. Is this the nature of gratitude? That we most appreciate only when we have lost, or never had? I fear it. None the less, I could not look away. It was only when she'd frozen in fright, half way through eating her bread so uncouthly that I realized I'd stared too intently. Perhaps she thought I thought her a thief. Perhaps she was.

Relationship Note on Valencia

Cousin Valencia is sorely missed. She is utterly vivacious, and the North is richer for her there. I still have designs to steal her back, but she actually seems happy amongst the savages. Hopefully we won't find ourselves at too many odds, and can help each other with political endeavors.
