They took me to see my mother -- what was left of her -- her head, her shorn hair. Beneath her lashes, dark like my own, you could see them: the legs of a spider. I opened her eyes, and there they were. Not eyes, no. Not hers. Dead spiders. Large ones. Spiders ... The Spiders. Terrible things. How much have we forgotten, I wonder? How much must we still remember?

Perhaps there is some truth that all we of the North need to have a good time is good company and an endless supply of spirits to take any occasion to the next level, as this was the case for my friendly wrestling match with good friend, Prince Darren Redrain. A lot of our brethren came out to cheer and spectate our fight, though I sadly lost in the end. Lady Brianna matched against him afterwards, and she certainly would've bested him, had he not come called a draw before she could really let her colors show.

We had some interesting guests in attendance as well. Lady Dawn of House Grayson snuck into the affair and drank and jeered with the crowd as if she were one of our with such grace and poise, it's no surprise no one raised a brow at such foreign, lovely company. Mistress Larissa Whisper attended as well, vivacious and the source of such delight and merriment as always.

Relationship Note on Nadia

The Duchess of Stonedeep is an old friend. I remember well the times spent as children, chasing monsters and things. I don't suppose she ever thought she'd be Duchess one day - her brother was the one who was supposed to ascend. But we've both had a great amount of loss in such short periods now. She does Stonedeep proud as their Duchess, and I remain proud to call her one of my dearest friends.

Hammar is under the impression that I have hairy tits.

It's a long story that I don't have the stamina to go in to, but he's convinced I have braids wobbling in my cleavage like tentacles of some strange monster.

I heard he lost the fight this evening. He promised he'd show me his boobs.

So, there was a brawl down at The Hollows. Been a while since I've seen a good one, or visited for more than a few moments to remind people I'm around. Tonight was a bit different than usual. Full of Silks. None of them acted too high and mighty though, very welcomed considering the venue. And none of us rabble managed to do anything too stupid, which is good. Though apparently a Knight almost ended up getting herself turned into an encore. Which, I'll admit, I'm still thinking might have been good. But that's just the way of things isn't it? We know our rules. They're built into us, from all our lives living down here, we know what we can get away with. What we can't. I suppose some folks don't get that innate sense of what's going across the line. Or maybe they just don't have lines, once there's enough money involved. That'd explain a lot, wouldn't it?

Relationship Note on Prospero

My cousin has arrived in Arx and I cannot be more thrilled to have more Fidante blood in this great city. Yes, he's much older than I am, more like an uncle or a father-figure, but truly he is neither. Thick as thieves he and I can be now that I am of age and have taken a higher position in the house.

Oh Prospero, you have no idea how my soul is eased by your presence.

I learned a valuable lesson while attending the little fracas the Cullers put together. Who would have thought that in the midst of fast flowing whiskey, showers of silver coins, and the spray of blood one might walk away enlightened?

Anyway, you'll surely hear about the winners and the losers and what I may or may not have attempted to do, so why should I waste my breath repeating it here? For Vellichor's sake?

Well even fucking Vellichor gets tired of hearing the same shit, day in, day out. Your grey hair is testament to that, far more than the conversations you have with me. Don't even give me that look, either. You're not my father, and even if you were that's a look far more suited to Mother.

Tonight, a mudpit was roped off outside the villa. Bonfires burned bright and spirits were poured, and fun was had by all. Nadia and I had agreed to a friendly little brawl, though she insisted she would win. I ensured she was well and sorely beaten into the mud. So much for that 'soft prince' shite that some people were spouting.

The match with Brianna could've went better. But I suppose calling a draw with her was the best outcome I could expect. She's a fine warrior.

Never one to avoid certain events because of their location, I found myself very excited to witness the underground fighting at the Hollow in the Lower Boroughs. There was a lot of whiskey, a lot of shouting and blood, a lot of combat that really stirred my soul. I enjoy fights of all kinds and I have to say, this particular evening was most riveting. I'm going to have to keep my eyes on Marcas Aodh. Sorry that my Lenosian bet lost but it was entrancing to watch the bear of a man not hold back.

Relationship Note on Dawn

I'm not sure what I was expecting when I agreed to meet with Lady Dawn, though I know with certainty that she did not meet those expectations - she exceeded them in every means possible. Dawn is a woman that has taken what life has given her and made something inspiring of herself. Charitable, kind and diplomatically graceful, she is undoubtedly the best person to perform the job as the voice of House Grayson. I look forward to getting to know her better.

Relationship Note on Brianna

Lady Brianna seems to have a good head on her shoulders, her priorites in order, a clever sense of humor, and apparently does not want to see my brother unclothed like the rest of the populace. This is a relief. I hope we will get along wonderfully. We can get used to living here in the south without letting it devour every bit of who we are.

Relationship Note on Victus

He does not appear to be much fond of how I choose to spend Grayson silver. Nor did he seem to approve of my taking part in a spar at the training fields. He looked positively dour when I mentioned, on our first meeting, that I felt he and I had some commonalities in our background.

I would suspect that Lord Thrax does not care much for me if I did not believe this is how he interacts with most that he meets. He is a hard man come from a hard life, with concerns and cares that diverge a great deal from my own. His rough edges are understood.

That said, it takes an effort to not rise to the bait when he calls me Princess. Thrax produces most capable fishermen.

Relationship Note on Hammar

Master Hammar. I had thought to make a kind gesture at a card game, by sponsoring his play, and in so doing I appear to have earned for myself a champion. Some might question the wisdom of keeping him in that role, even if it is of an unofficial nature. But, while I have not yet seen him in battle, I must say I find his nature to be simple and charming, and do not doubt that if I did need someone to come to my defense with hammer in hand, I will be well-protected in that instance.

Relationship Note on Acacia

Mistress Culler is the proof that birth does not dictate abilities. She herself admits that she still has much to learn and while that is true of all of us, I believe the lady (I can call her that here without fear of reprisal) has learned more than many would or could, coming from the place she has. Each time we meet, I find myself more impressed by her. Not only for what she has made of herself, or for the way she conducts herself among those she claims as superior, but for her insight and vision.

Duke Niccolo is fortunate I also hold him in high esteem and that I am an honorable woman, else I would do all I could to lure her into my employ and take on her patronage for myself.

Time and time again, I worry that I have perhaps not contorted myself to the best standards of my House. Seeing someone like Lady Dawn doing such a better job behaving.. and representing our interests is on the one hand, incredibly frustrating due to my lack of patience and inability.. but also liberating in a way. At the very least however, I no longer have to even pretend to be a diplomat anymore with her about and I can focus on my work. There are those who beleive I have been rude.. or let us say.. agressive before.

And that was only when I was using my words.. an Inquisitor has many tools at his disposal for investigation.

I have so much to write about for this week. Whereas last week was terribly boring, this week has been incredibly exciting. First, there was the arrival of Lord Eos Saik, Lady Kima's brother. He's been a huge source of entertainment for me this week and I do not foresee this ending any time soon. I so love when I can see a blossoming friendship on the horizon.

The second most exciting thing.. Well, this takes in the place of two forms; First, Admiral Alrec Magaldi sort of waged a personal vendetta against Lady Margot Tyde. This has put me in a strange position as I am fond of the Lady and am friendly with the Admiral. I do hope things can come to a peaceful resolution.

The second /second/ most exciting thing to happen this week was the arrival of my beloved cousin, Lord Prospero. He is a lawyer and while he's more than twice my age, I suppose one could consider him more like an uncle? Regardless of what others might think of him, he is family. He is a Fidante through and through. Just when I was feeling a little more homesick, home has come to me.
