Relationship Note on Myrinda

I forget how long I've known this woman; practically my whole life. It's an honor to know her.

Relationship Note on Fergus

I had a semi-brief meeting with the Prince - and to be honest I wasn't quite sure how it would go. Considering neither of us left The Spirits bloody or with missing teeth, I think it went well. Maybe he's not as bad as I initially thought. Fergus is a lot more of a behemoth up close than what he looks like at a distance...the distance was very deceptive. I need to order a little more fabric..

Relationship Note on Joscelin

A page intended to be tucked in a binder, left out for others to see...

A basket was left in my area by a practical in the House of Questions. Inside I found seven mewling kittens. Each kitten was roughly the same size, and I assume age, a few seconds apart at best but I have not seen a cat give birth in some time.

It caused me to reflect on what life would be like if all of our siblings were born at the same time, given that so much of our authority in the nobility comes from birth order. It seems to me it would be absolute chaos. Brother against brother, sister against sister, tragic really.

I recall watching kittens compete for their mothers milk, how they stepped upon each other, splaying their razor claws, the horrible indifference of nature. The horror of need taking precedence over sibling compassion. Some families in this great city behave little better than kittens.

Right now they are needy and relative to their productivity, rather expensive to care for in time and effort. This rather reminds me of the challenges facing the Lady of the House, and I find myself briefly sympathetic once again. The woman is a martyr.

One of the servants asked for a kitten for her child, I had a mind to demand the child's references, its prior history with any family pets. I had a mind to ask her, once received to explain any gaps in the child's care of the pets.

People ask for things from want, they often have no idea what responsibilities actually cost. We can't all be mindlessly in love can we? Someone has to watch the gates, don't they? When I give my friends moments to trifle with, the subject of distraction in some form or another always comes up. Is life so awful as to not face it each morning? But no, we must be distracted constantly, be it new clothing, or beautiful courtesans, or the temporary comfort found in pressing our flesh into each other. Oh yes, lets not forget this fantastic pre-occupation.

But I got distracted from kittens. Mouser's these, I can tell by the coats. The ones born to mouse have a natural camouflage suited for ambushing. The non-mousers are usually pretty. Well that about sums things up doesn't it, beware the giant ugly Shav banging SoAndSo; by the look of him he must be a great mouser.

Relationship Note on Valkieri

Have irritated Lord Valkieri at least twice today by my count, although there could be some debate where it was separate irritations or one extended irritations. If I irritate him fifty times by month's end, will treat myself to new volume of poetry.

After all, Lady Cara is right. Irritating him is medicinal.

Relationship Note on Gareth

I came across Prince Gareth carrying a basket of /kittens/, of all things, back to the Grayson estate. I ended up offering to help him, and carried the basket back part of the way. Unfortunately, at one point, a light-hearted joke was taken rather poorly, and he took the kittens stormed off. I suppose I've been away from the city too long; my sense of humor doesn't always align with everyone else's anymore.

(A shame that he got so angered, really, because I wouldn't have minded a kitten. They do make rather nice pets, and he seemed to have a surplus.)

I'm sure there's no blood at all on the marble.

Today was a pretty good day. Dueled with Duchess Nadia Nightgold. It was a very long match! Vincere tricked me into fighting with one hand behind my back and I almost fell over at one point but I still gave it my all. I feel good about it.

Well, bloody and sore, but good.

The city is glorious and huge and full of new faces and new things to do and there's a menagerie and the training center is big and full of dummies.

I scared Lady Cara half to death. I feel badly about that.

Relationship Note on Myrinda

I may be a little in love with Myrinda Grayhope, Aureth Grayhope's wonderful mother.

Of course, I've been saying that for -years-.

It's still true. What a fine woman she is.

Relationship Note on Gareth

Who doesn't love kittens? -Honestly-, no one has it in for the fluffy darlings more than the Prince Inquisitor.

...don't look at me like that. I'm completely serious. I wouldn't lie about something as important as this.

Did you write it down? Prince Gareth Grayson -adores- kittens. He will tickle kitten bellies all day.

He will even -smile-.

Just ask him. I left a whole basket of the fluffiest kittens I could find on his desk this morning. Some people like flowers as a way of apology, others weapons, still more like books.

If you want to appease Gareth, just give him a bouquet of live kittens.

Relationship Note on Rook

Master Rook, resident of the Whisper House and under the thumb of the Grayson family, is a charming man. The first of several lessons went well, teaching him the simplest of Thraxian court dances - I'm sure he'll learn many more in the future, not that we're the most spectacular showing of dancing prowess in the Compact.

His face is pleasant to look at, as well.

I'll write more later.

For now, I'll only say this:

Why. Why must you be so wonderful in the beginning? To kiss you is to brush the edges of heaven's breath. And you burn in me, sweetly, reminding me of days long passed, when I was loved completely and whole.

But in the end it always turns out the same. I let you run through me, take over, hijack even my most basic of functions.

And I know like a fool, I will find you in the most unusual places and be unable to resist.

Curry. You beautiful, horrible, cruel mistress. Never again.

I mean it this time. I can't in this moment even remember what I loved about you to begin with. All there is, is fire and pain. Cruel bitch.

On a serious note, Prince Mason is lovely, as is Princess Lou. I wouldn't mind speaking to them again in the future.

I forgot to comment on Prince Edain's leadership competition.

I didn't do as well as I'd like, but the field of competitors was impressive. Both Lady Dawn and I attempted to best the high scores - or at least tie them - and we both fell short. But why not make the attempt if there's no risk involved? Go big or go home, I say!

It was an innovative idea, I think. The amount of work Prince Edain and his attendants put into the obstacle course was not trifling; I almost wished I could make better use of it.

The command contest hosted by Prince Edain was an interesting event. As with all things, I threw myself into the competition - I didn't just tell my men what to do like some of the other competitors; I followed them into battle (or the obstacles in this case) as a true leader does. It started a trend, and while I was not the winner, I competed well. And I was quite proud to see Duchess Nadia do so well - she made the House proud.

Tonight Prince Inquisitor Gareth will no doubt will himself to sleep in a cold and empty bed, or perhaps hanging from a rod in his closet, no one can be sure. Though I imagine a smile on his face while he thinks about the molten lava that should be flowing in the next few hours, from the hot vent known as Silas's rump. Gareth won't be the only one limping tomorrow.

The Redrain ritual was... -different-, than what I'm used to observing when it comes to religious services. Normally we just make a few prayers and bow our head in reverence; certainly no gyrating dances or blood-drinking involved. I have my theories on what occurred but I think I will keep them to myself for the time being.

Prince Mason's gathering at the Grayson Manor as more of a conversation than epic tale-spinning, but he introduced us to some spicy foods from his homeland. The Prince Inquisitor has informed me of it's unpleasant aftermath, however, and I must confess I do not look forward to it...

I had not thought to travel -- adventure being something I find more between the pages of a book than far afield -- but I must admit, the stories of Prince Mason's homeland are most intriguing. Perhaps someday I will travel beyond the borders of the Compact and see the wide world for myself.

Relationship Note on Nadia

When I first arrived in Arx, I very much wanted to be her friend. She had the fashion, the social 'sparkle', and a certain way about her. I have no doubt she still has it, but I think she aims for the mark and ends somewhere up in the far left. I do not think the realizes what she does or says half the time, whether it is insulting or not taken the way she intends. I don't want to blame it on her own tragedies, but at a certain point you have to gird your loins and get on with it. There are two sides so far to her and I like her when she is on the one, the other I can do without.

It will be nice to have a full wardrobe to select from again. Mine, apparently, was full only of horror.

I can't say I found that adjective to be either diplomatic or charming but I'm told the end result will be impressive enough to make up for it.
