Still it did get rather dramatic and Tristan was an unexpected but honourable victor, the man's skill on horseback was stunning, by far the best rider I have ever seen and a worthy champion.
The melee might be best described as brutal with a number of the competitors carrying on far past where I would have thought they would need to bow out, Sir Roland's victory well deserved and hard fought. Princess Sophie's medical attention was sorely needed in the aftermath though and I hope everyone recovers well.

Of course if cold reason ruled the world, it wouldn't look anything like it does.
Fear rules. Anger rules. Hate rules. Jealousy and spite and resentment and, yes, compassion and affections and soppy fucking love rules.
Bah. Where am I going with this?
I suppose when I was a Warlord, I rarely thought of these things. I said what I wanted to say, I did what I wanted to do. What enemies I made were either largely my own, or I was making them on the will of my Uncle, by iron and blood and fire.

It is no easy thing, to let another man have the Leviathan while I sit in Arx. There is a great threat rising in the East, and every instinct says there is where I should be, not here.
At least I leave it in capable hands until I have time to be there in person.

The jousting was a fucking idiot idea though. I really should learn to ride better someday. Or maybe just give up and turn my warhorse Gluefoot into his namesake.

House Thrax was kind in their treatment of me, and I did my best to return their kindness and respect in this, their time of mourning. Prince Donrai inspired a lot of complex feelings that were on display at the wake.
Prince Valerius, Prince Abbas, and Lord Darrow all spoke of him, sharing memories and how he'd shaped them. Others were more private in theirs. The High Lord was seen off with advice for his next life, and with High Lord Victus lighting the pyre. May Lagoma's flame have purified him of his sins, and may the Thirteenth have judged him with compassion.

He bet that if he won our spar I would be his date for the gala and I bet that if I won he would wear something with a griffin upon it to the gala.
He won. I consider it kind of victory that is wasn't clear who was going to win for several rounds. Against Prince Nimble that is more than I expected.
I threatened him with wearing my steel plate to the gala, but he didn't seem phased by that. It probably would hurt if I stepped on his toes in all that metal and I don't know how to dance, so maybe he should be more worried.
Although Princess Lark loaned me a dress. One that Myrinda Grayhope made so maybe this toes won't get stomped too hard and it is very shiny!

I lost in the Melee, too, but not without a good fight with Lord Killian and Master Sparte on my side. I am proud of my men - there isn't a more resilient lot out there. The Compact is in good hands, whether it cares to acknowledge it or not. We will defend the city to our last breath.

I lost every single one of my bets to Duchess Sylvie. It'd been ages since I had sat down with her and I'm not regretful in the slightest. She proved excellent company. But really. Who would've imagined that the Horse Whisperer would be that adept? Well, I suppose the name gave it away, eh?
I wasn't able to stay for the Grand Melee, but there was certainly skin to see for all despite the weather. I heard Sir Roland came through triumphant at the end. Would that he won when I had bet upon him the first time. Tch.
