What an incredibly busy day. At least I feel it was productive, educational, and entertaining. All told that is the best anyone can really hope for in a day. I am dreading learning the lance and spear on horseback, but proud too. We don't joust on ships-though perhaps on rafts that could prove amusing-if modified to ensure no one drowns!

The Mother Mercy, my cousin, Princess Sophie spoke in my court today of the plight of those inflicted with Soldier's Heart. Those that have been through horrible experiences of war, or really any terrifying stressful situation. I know many suffer of this, and even though it is not something we have always had a name for. We just finished a war where many had to face things they did not believe could be real and were not ready to face. Hell it was a war that I don't think we could have been ready to face.
Let us not forget that wounds run deep and remember kindness for our friends and families, and even strangers. I know it is something that I have not always been as good at as I should be. And I will strive to do better.

I think I need a sabbatical. A couple weeks in Stormward this time of year would do me good. And the ability to wake up and not see Arx for once would be a delight.

So I have taken upon me the task of training a new squire.
Squire Serid Iron Foot. He is adjusting to his new life well. He shows great talent at hitting things with sticks, and he's a born survivor.
However he keeps trying to get away from me so he can hunt the Greenmarch War Elks. He tells me 'I'll thank him come winter.' We're still working on setting boundaries.

Lady Olivia and Lady Khanne have both been of great help in my work to look into the forest and the damage caused by Brand's lingering there. I spoke with Lady Olivia for some time, tutoring her in the practices of agriculture, and I was pleased to find out she has a natural talent for the field. I hope to nurture this; it is good to find others with respect and ties to the land amongst the Compact

I've never seen anyone wield shovels as incompetently as those who turned out to plant saplings to give thanks for the war's end and to remember what occurred, and look forward to the future.
It was a joy to watch various nobles try to understand a mechanism quite different to a blade, and to interact with the land. They took instruction fairly well, though Archlector Aureth still found the idea of creating a hole difficult to grasp. The event was quite a success, though one of the nobility felt so inspired by events she gave birth.
I trust this is not a common occurrence at religious festivals.

On this day, we are safely delivered of two healthy baby girls -- Petra and Kieri Grayson.
They were born in a forest glade during an event honoring Petrichor and the Queen of Endings, in hope for new life and rebirth.
Their timing is already rather magnificent, if I do say so myself.

And so it is summertime again. I'm just glad I had the opportunity to breathe in some fresh Farhaven mountain air before experiencing another one of Arx's sweltering summers. I think I miss my home most during this time of the year.

I always forget how much I love the summer until it comes around again. Not quite a Southport summer this far up north, but its nice enjoy a cool drink on a warm day. For unrelated reasons, I am very much looking forward to the end of this particular summer though.

Peregrine Grayson was my friend.
Daring, vibrant, and fierce--
I have tried to write a poem in eulogy. Fierce rhymes with pierce, daring rhymes with caring, vibrant rhymes with celebrant--
Sort of--
I don't have a poem for this. Peregrine's song is in the song of the birds -- the forlorn cry of the gull, the sweet trill of the mockingbird, the harsh caw of the crow, yes, but especially the falcon. Huntress, mighty and fierce and quick, with blood in its talons when it strikes clean and sure. Hunting bird, you faced prey too large for you, but you were the greatest of great hearts.
I will always treasure the confidence you offered me. I will wish for the open breadth of your perspective much in days to come, I think. But I hope the gods reunite you with your lost family, my friend.
Heron to falcon ... I will do my utmost to take down what slew you. We are, after all, both hunting birds.

The faithful came together today and got down into the soil to plant trees. We gave thanks to Petrichor for the land and to Death for new beginnings.
I am reborn in the service of my goddess and of the Faith, and the world is reborn from the ashes of a war, a threat on its existence, in new life.
I give thanks, also, to Death, the Mother of Beginnings, for the two lovely children who were born to Princess Cara Grayson in the Rebirth Grove. I can think of no more auspicious omen for new lives than to begin in such a way, surrounded by hope, and love, and faith, while we scattered blessed water across the roots of these newly planted young trees.
Gods bless you all. It's a beautiful day today.

Ran the gauntlet this morning with Marian. Whoever thought up that fresh hell has a sadist's mindset. I enjoyed it.
Did better than I thought I did, I guess. Marian told me I had set the new record by a single point. Can't say that was my goal in mind when I ran through it, felt like I barely made it to the end. Sucking wind like I was wet behind the ears. Shit, I'm out of shape.

My father's arrival has been delayed by an incident at the Stormarch, but he will be pleasantly surprised when he arrives, I think. We're well on our way to being established and getting ground broken on our house in the city!

So much of my family is here in the city now that there are almost always the sounds of life within the manor, regardless of hour. Twice this week I have heard laughter from the gardens only to look out the window to see the pools actually being used. It's a nice change.

I am not sure what or who killed Princess Peregrine, but I plan to find out.
Princess Peregrine was a warrior princess and who brought a good force it her and helped us to hold Seawatch gate at the battle. She also killed a bringer in that battle.
She was not with us long, but her presence was helped and she helped us to keep Compact. She will be remembered.
