Sir Norwood, on behalf of my cousin I would ask that you not eye Sir Thorley’s naked blade quite so admiringly.

I am making no statement about the matter of Goodman Esra, once Wyrmguard, because when a Voice of Grayson speaks, it is with the authority of House Grayson, and House Grayson takes no position on this, save wholly in support of Laric Grayson and the Inquisition.

Instead, my White Journal today will be this extremely poorly drawn picture of a daisy.

What happened to Esra was a disgraceful tragedy. His crimes were unlikely to end in his death: the Faith had already punished him for his blasphemy and slander against an Archlector, as was their right and duty. The punishment for his reckless interference with an ongoing investigation would have taken his clear mental state into account. If he confessed, the Inquisition would issue corporal punishment and exile him to somewhere he could recover from the strain his discoveries put him under. Perhaps a cloister if the Faith agreed, where godsworn could help him see his errors and return to the Faith's loving embrace. We would have recommended this punishment to the Court if it went to trial.

Let this be a lesson to those who would try to take justice into their own hands. There is a difference between a criminal and an enemy of the Compact. The Iron Guard and the Inquisition are the only entities given the authority to handle the former on the Crown's land and the Crown's waters. If you must act, call for a member of either Order, be it guard or officer, confessor or inquisitor.

That is the extent of what I shall write on the subject for now. We are on the eve of war, and our attention must be aimed forward.

I will pen a letter to his parents tonight expressing my apologies and condolences. House Wyrmguard disowned him but blood ties are not so easily broken.

Sir Thorley Sandreef's sword is quite safe from my hands, though I look forward to seeing him use it himself.

My delight is purely that of which is proper for a weapon so finely made.

Relationship Note on Esra

I make this journal entry on Goodman Esra, formerly of the Scholars, formerly of house Wyrmguard, a young denobled Valardin that was passionate, zealous and firm in his convictions.

It is disappointing to any when a young life is lost when there is so much potential for them later on. I'm reminded of a Tehomic prayer that asks for the petitioner not to live, but to not die in vain, and here I feel that has happened.

Life is about learning opportunities. Sometimes you learn the lesson, sometimes you're the lesson for others to learn from. I pray for Esra's soul that when the day comes it might be returned from the Queen, it has had the moment needed to reflect that while choice is the most powerful tool humanity has, that cost and consequence cannot be separated from said choice.

Vellichor desires knowledge to be free and understanding given, but tempers such things with the wisdom to know when it should be shared. By ensuring the receiver is ready for such information and the understanding of how to use it is the responsibility of the giver. I take responsibility that young Esra wasn't ready for everything his eager heart wanted to learn, that I wasn't successful in persuading him to quieten his emotions and that he didn't realize that the enemy desires to coat trickery and lies with the thinnest veneer of possible truth. Forgive me for failing you, Esra. This is why the Scholars pursue knowledge with fervent focus, so that as a group we can discuss and work out where the falsehoods are and where truth sits as an organization, and we act as whetstones to the intellectual razor to keep sharpening in respectful debate. If but Esra was able to exercise patience, humility and quieten the passions of his heart, he might have been able to see this. Such is a lesson that the Thirteenth tells us, that if we do not control our dark passions, they will most certainly control us and lead us to ruin. For this, I forgive you, Esra.

And so let it be with Esra's memory. A young man who was zealous and dogged in the pursuit of knowledge no matter the price, who had not the wisdom yet for understanding, and a man whose choices and lack of mastering his passions led to his far untimely demise.

May his soul be at more peace than he had during his life, and may only the Sentinel judge him. Let us remember the Folly of Esra, and try to learn from his mistakes.

Went to the Sip'n'Spar, wearing half a wolf and my leathers. Though I had the cuirass made for the Woodlands ball, I'm finding that for sparring outside of work it's a fine piece of gear, even if the fur on the mantle feels a little odd.

First I fought the Master smith, Felix Meadson, greatsword versus polearm, and staying in my reach without falling prey to his was an interesting exercise. Leaping about in leathers might generally feel like I'm fighting in my smalls, but keeping my pauldrons and vambraces at least gave me a surface a little less inclined to piercing on which to try and deflect his blade.

I think my temper got the best of me on the second one, not towards my opponent, Admiral Wash Kennex is a fine soldier and it was a pleasure to cross blades with him, even if my ribs still ached from the earlier bout. But, yes. I'll leave it like that.

Not sure what games are being played with me, but I don't find them amusing. And perhaps I am a little angry at myself, too, for mistaking things. You know who you are. Don't think a pretty smile will help you.

Relationship Note on Norwood

Perhaps we really did end up flailing at each other as exhaustion and fatigue wore both of us down to shaky legs and wobbly arms.

But I couldn't imagine someone else I would want fighting by my side in the coming days.

I just realize that if I you should fall on my watch, if I could handle or survive the stare down of disappointment in Lady Keaton's eyes if I had to deliver the news.

Surely you can champion the cause for him to have a similar blade, my Lady?

Don't have a way with words like some, but when the light shines in her eyes, I feel the poet in me stir. That playful quirk of love or madness, hard to say, but I suspect a measure equal in both.

The hue of her skin clashes against mine, the cinnamon velvet to pale luster when fingers tangle together. Princess, aye, I am, but the manners of many born lower in the eyes of laws are so much more refined than mine. It's there in her, that willful stubbornness that bends me to her whims, to take better care of myself for her sake.

She is the most human person I know, with flaws that shine as bright and perfect as the diamonds in my sister's coronet.

Perhaps the love is all my beloved's, and the madness all mine.

I have met with several Archlectors in as many days. Perhaps it is a sign I am on the right path. I know not what to make of the past, but I can only at this time focus on the future. Which path should I follow? The path I have always followed, or another far less certain one? All I know is that I cannot abandon those who count on me. I will not abandon who I am.

Countess, we would always be delighted to host you in the Telmarch. My cousin Etienne (now the archlector of Gild) has drilled into me what an honor it is to welcome guests into one's home, and the Great Red Wall of the Telmar Keep would welcome you and your party should you ever find yourself in the Oathlands.

But in the mean time, you are always very welcome to the Telmar Tower here in Arx. We are overdue for dinner, wouldn't you say?

I think that this Whitehawk Lady is quite kind. She also seems to be curious about everything, from the simplest book, to the most well made of weapons. She seems to like craftsmanship, and I can understand an appreciation for such work.
