Princess Sorrel and Lord Alecstazi performed admirably today. Rarely have I seen such a striking example of skill and power paired with honor and decency. The match must have pleased Gloria. It was a privilege to see it in person.

I have no love for bugs. If I ever do catch sight of such disgusting creatures again I will not think twice or thrice to stomp on them. Hideous little things.

There seems to be a surpassing number of threats to the realm that strike from the shadows. This isn't like how it is in the stories at all!

Heroes don't fight an ocean of faceless threats with quills and rolls of scrip - they challenge them to combat! Well, perhaps Mistress Theophania would challenge someone to a quill fight. That would be quite the sight!

Timing could be better, but we've got a large project in the works that likely won't come to light until after the council elections. What can you do? The project started before the council election was announced anyway, it's certainly not like we're doing it because of the elections. Nope, we just take care of the lowers as a matter of course.

I've never seen House Valardin sponsor a joust that wasn't excellently entertaining to observe. There's just something about an honor duel that observes the forms properly. Reminds me of something I can't quite remember.

I have spent too long in this heat. I need to seek a release from this Summer. It is camping time.

Lyseander Craw. I will not miss you. The Lowers is a brighter place now that you are gone. Here is to freedom from oppression! Huzzah!

I am getting married. It is surreal! I never thought of myself as the type to get married. Yet, here I am. I am in love with a man who celebrates life. He encourages freedom. He has pulled me back from the edge of despair and showed me the light of life. I love him. I love my Ravna.

Having missed the Unicorn Ball, I have to wonder...

Why was it a masked ball? Horses don't wear masks. Why are any balls masked balls? Is it because some people are ashamed of their face? Interesting faces are so much better than boring ones! Perfect rosy cheeks, beautiful full lips, blah blah blah.

A good scar adds character! There are so many gorgeous people in the city of Arx I can barely remember them all.

So many letters I need to write, want to write, should write. So many people I need to see, want to see, should see.

But when I put ink to parchment all that comes out is a stain.

When I move to walk out the door, the handle doesn't turn.

I need to figure out what is blocking me and remove the obstacle. I need to stop waiting and just do.

So much is different, so much is missed, but that doesn't mean what is new, or could be new, isn't waiting around the corner to bring joy. But if I never walk down the path, I won't turn that corner.

Relationship Note on Arik

I do not know who brought up the topic of the education of northern people, or why, or if there was a journal I missed or what (truth be told, I don't read very many these days). One thing I do know though is that Arik likes to yell. A lot. He's a boisterous brother.

It seems the time to leave for Brightshore is coming upon us soon, I'm entirely filled with excitement for the trip, and the chance to find a place that has not been seen by others in centuries. I had thought of trying to bring them some Frosthope, but I am not sure if the plant would be able to grow there or not. Either way, I hope to bring a plant with me, as my gift.

Relationship Note on Kedehern

It's been two months now since Keirlys and Kristoph were born, and I find myself even more in love with them then when I first held them. If you had asked me a few months ago if I could imagine feeling so much love for one person, I would not have been able to. But now, I am just in awe of them everyday. Sure, there are times of frustration, but it is worth it, they are worth it. And I'm thankful for my wonderful husband, too. He's been a wonderful partner, and an excellent father to our children.

A slower week than some but still there's much information to parse through. I don't know where these tangling leads will lead me. It was delightful to learn more about Uanna but I find more and more my thoughts brought around to the story of flame. Like many stories i've looked into the story begins beyond mortal reckoning an unbroken tale that hints at secrets that may be critical for us to survive what comes next. I wonder though... am I failing to find the point by looking more to the story than to what the story might instruct us to do?

I could have told you that. The 'Dullest Oathlander' is actually a farrier by the name of Milton, who works for the Telmar. He does fine work, but he's about as interesting a conversationalist as watching grass grow.
