Why does it have to be this way? You know who you are.

Today I take on a new title: Aunt.

I couldn't be prouder of my family. Welcome to the world, Lord Silain Crovane. Your Auntie loves you to the stars and beyond!

What a strange man I met today. He said he was a Scholar of Vellichor, but I have never heard his name before. I do recall seeing him once before, but he claims to have no memory of it. I am somewhat forgettable, I suppose. Servants usually are.

For the record, for everybody, this last night before I begin my penance:

I'm not a knight. I'm not a Sir. I don't have any titles at all anymore.

Relationship Note on Aleksei

I understand Aleksei's choice.

I understand lying in the dark and knowing where you are, and knowing where you want to be. I understand wanting to be two people and in two places at one time. I understand how the path not taken can eat you alive from the inside, especially when that path's rooted in love as well as regret.

I understand how deeply and deeply Aleksei loves.

I understand his choice.

Relationship Note on Magpie

I don't have a dog in this fight or a dog in general, but I can confirm:

Magpie will punch you really hard in the nuts.

Sorry Vellichor.

I find myself torn inside as of late, I find myself confused as well. So many things going on so much change, first I lose a dear friend Brother Driskell and then I lose my cousin Lady Elara and now we lose a godsworn, someone I know many looked up too. As a Disciple of Mangata I understand why the faith is doing what they are but, many of those who are having to step away from the paths of the faith is sad and it troubles me greatly. Many of them I have seen the gods work through I have seen them help the faith and compact and yet how do we repay them by kicking them out of those positions? These are my feelings and I wish Driskell was here so I could bend his ear. I just I find myself conflicted and wondering just what a good idea this maybe.

I generally don't give two shits about what Orathy Culler has to say about anyone or anything, but Aleksei is a good damned friend of mine and has done more for this city and me personally than most people have bothered to even try at.

Orathy, you can apologize for your comments, or we can have it out in the fighting pit. Otherwise, enjoy watching your back because I'll be coming for you and I won't be nearly so polite about it.

Relationship Note on Preston

Because debate and discourse are the heart of wisdom, I will address your concerns with my choice of words openly. Or with my choice of word, as may be:

'Rightly.'

I see now my use of this word was unclear and incomplete. I was speaking to the plight of those who were serving dutifully in Faith institutions before this ban was established. Who believe devoutly in the Gods of the Pantheon but also respect and honor the old ways. These are not people who are fickle of heart or faint of belief, but servants of the Faith and the Pantheon who have heard and answered the call to serve that higher purpose in a way that many lack the dedication to pursue. These people would not be who they are if they were generally given to abandoning their beliefs and convictions, or failing to follow their hearts in service to the same.

If the Faith rejects their service as a consequence of any secondary beliefs held in addition to fervent and diligent faith in the Gods of the Pantheon, that is an unfortunate but ultimately understandable consequence. It is nonetheless their 'right' per ancient agreements to hold the old traditions sacred alongside the teachings of the Faith, and I submit that abandoning their beliefs and convictions to any extent would represent a lamentable loss of integrity and character.

I hope this will serve to clarify my earlier entry.

Winter will soon be here, and I find myself far too much behind in putting together the line up for the coldest of months. It isn't because of a lack of choices, but rather too many. So many will be looking for ways to keep warm, and there are ample options. I'm most looking forward to putting out a form of hot chocolate... one that is pleasantly alcoholic in nature, of course, with just the right touches to make it memorable.

Relationship Note on Niklas

I appreciate your positivity towards myself, and my character.

My apologies if my previous entry seemed a bit more aggressive than my intentions. Still, my meaning is the same. While I think you are of an upstanding character, I do not believe it is appropriate to pass on such a title so easily, and with little more evidence than we have already been presented with. Doing so diminishes the title, even if it is one in response to an offense.

I was actually specifically responding to a declaration made here, but if you are bound and determined to take everything as poorly as possible then let me tell you that I think you are a good person with a strong sense of duty and family.

Relationship Note on Elara

It is difficult for me to say if the tour of Stormward March went "well" considering the tragedy that befell us. Certainly everything else seemed to go as planned, but when one of your kin is crushed to death by a portion of the statue of your founder... that puts a damper on things.

The man who owned the cart came by the Kay a couple of days later, hat in hand and fear in his eyes. They started in front of the blacksmith and his reins snapped, is what he said, keeping his head low as if I'd order it cut off. It was an accident, that much was apparent on inspecting the horses and the cart. He could have remained silent and I can't say I'd have ever known.

In the end, I thanked him for his honesty and told him to go home to his family. I may have a reputation for being iron-handed, but I'd hope that our people don't see me as a tyrant.

Relationship Note on Niklas

Here I was thinking that only the Faith could declare someone was an oathbreaker. Silly me. Not to mention, I was under the understanding that when you are absolved of a vow or oath you have taken, that there would be no harm in violating what was once your oath.

I now understand some of what Duchess Belladonna meant when she talked of grieving on her own terms.

To those who have offered me condolences, your thoughts are appreciated. To those who are thinking of it, it is not necessary. Elara was one of the two most important people in my life. My relationship with, and my love for, my sister are things that belong to me and are not going to be shared with the public. So I will not be attending any wake (an event I believe she would abhor) and, should you feel I am acting too flip for someone in mourning, consider what I have written here.

In other news, I hear the faith made a proclamation. I have no strong opinions. On one hand the faith can't really decide who participates, so they should probably get to decide who gets paid. On the other hand, enh.

Blessed Aleksei is an oathbreaker. In general I'd say if you care enough to make an oath you should care enough to keep it. But everyone's story is different and circumstances mean that saying things is general is for people who have never experienced any specifics.

Just in the hopes that it quells some further questions on the matter:

No, I do not know whom will become the new Sword of Bastion when I am married into Thrax.

That's above my pay grade, so to speak.
