It hadn't been so very long ago that I was certain that might never be the case, so well had I done devising a life for myself where marriage might never be necessary. When Valerius first spoke to me of marriage, it had been in consideration of other prospects, advice offered from one friend to another. Neither of us had even considered our pairing at the time.
Lagoma teaches that change comes to all things, even our long-held views of ourselves.
I could say that it was a political marriage. Strengthening ties with House Thrax--and with my husband's renowned sisters--is undeniably beneficial for my house. It's true enough. And yet it would be disingenuous. I am unfathomably in love with this man. It took years of friendship and respect, of conversations about family and philosophy...
More, perhaps, it took watching darkness build on the horizon and finding that I had a steady light near at hand, a bright spot which never dims.
I am blessed, and I am grateful, and I expect this will all take quite a bit of getting used to.

Really, Oliver? You couldn't put our alcohol someplace lower? For normal people to reach?
I miss my husband, being a widow isn't just lonely though; it's damned inconvenient for all the places I need someone to be tall.
I write this smiling; I do miss him, but ... there's so much peace to feel right now, and my daughter coos in her little cradle, playing with a little ornament above it with soft charms and carvings. My days are full, and while I still ache with his absence, I am full of knowing that he is safe, and at peace, and that I can be too.
But gods dammit. Really? The -highest- cabinet shelf we had?

For helping out this old man figure out basic methods behind deep research, thank you goes out to Scholar Oswyn Spencer. Marquis Fairen Leary has been a gracious man to also agree to help out, too.
And then, the most amazing thing ever: my favorite nephew -- Baron Silas -- finally approved my crazy request for the newest addition to Whitehawk forces which will ultimately improve our combat capabilities. Thank you so much!
Did I ever tell you that you are my favorite nephew? Well, you very much are!

It wasn't long before it began to spread across Arx --stinging at the touch. Many gathered before the archives, curious like I was, to learn what was happening. Not much was said, though we were all having trouble focusing...and I don't know if the others felt it, but it felt like we were being watched by something abnormal.
The whole thing left me feeling a bit sickly and lightheaded, but I'll survive.

Relationship Note on Preston
You often don't live long, unless you're good, or lucky, and usually both. You don't get mourned the way soldiers and knights do. You don't get praised for what you do when the nobles get together to talk about sacrifice and war. There aren't any monuments. Funds for orphans. And you usually get sat on the front line, to take the brunt of anything that comes.
That's the wars. There's nastier work that people approach you and pay you for, because they don't want to get their hands dirty.
