I attended Countess Navegant's birthday party earlier in the week. She asked not for presents, but for donations to a cause I find right and just. Therefore, House Mazetti will be putting its silver towards a project that will not only venerate the gods, but benefit people from all walks of life across the Compact.
I also met with, by chance, the Duke of Grimhall. A man of few words, he nevertheless offered some sage advice. I shall thank him for it only after I have implemented it.

My uncle is a man of great personal strength and moral integrity. He may say this was not always so, and that may be true, but it is not true now. He has faced down more things than I can imagine, many of them terrible, some few of them more wonderful than words. I believe fatherhood is the one thing he'd claim without reservation saved him from despair when in a very dark time of his life. What I hope is, with recent events, the Marshal of Ostria can finally lay those old ghosts to rest; not to forget them, but to cut their ties upon his spirit.
As an aside, Vitalis, as soon as you finish with whatever adventure you've embarked upon, I demand you come to Arx post-haste. There is a serious matter that requires your attention, and I already have several viable candidates lined up.

For my part, I'm quite happy to repeat anything I write on some piece of paper to someone's face. It's entirely possible that in the delay I've thought up something extra to add on.
Words are words. If anything, putting them down in a journal that everyone can read should make them mean more, not less. It means I don't give a shit if absolutely everyone knows what I think on something. People can argue over whether that's wise, but it's strange to say it's cowardly.

I continue to defend at Maelstrom. It has been quiet, but even when things are quiet, I never discount the value of being a grounded protector on the walls.
The Grayson army, Prince Luca, Lord Killian, Lady Arianna, Master Sparte, Lord Faelan, Lady Clara, Lord Graham and Mistress Eilonwy continue to stand with me. I am proud of them all. They all are handling themselves with grace, honor and taking the protection of the people of Maelstrom quite seriously.
The Thrax warriors have been very brave. I am impressed with their combat skills and their skills at sea.
They have treated me and those with me, with respect. Prince Abbas treats me as a welcome guest general and shown respect for my skills. Duke Harald has as well. I don't agree with all the Thrax do, mostly in the case of Thralldom as many do know. I also do not agree with Prince Abba's past actions and have told him as much to his face. I have to admit though that their love of their people is fierce, their worship of their goddess is intense and their naval sea skills are incredible. They also and I never though I would write these words....they show no sign of having an issue with a blond Grayson female warrior.
Prince Abbas said he is following the combat rules of the faith and so far he has. I have hope that he is risen anew from the waters of his goddess and while his past will never fail to leave a mark upon his soul and will never be forgotten, it takes strength to face that past, to fight on and to put the well being of his people above all else.
I hope soon they abandon thralldom, but the moment I will stand with them and fight them and help push back the Darkwater. I am glad that I went. I see new light.

I'm not usually one for reading the journals of others, or paying attention to the things spewed in them. Today made me remember why. It seems that so many people feel more than free and happy to write in journals that which common decency and the dictates of society would deem inordinately inappropriate. The things people will say of and to one another, when they do not have to face the person they speak of in the flesh, are truly disappointing.
The color pink is a fine color, and if it intimidates you, then I find you pitiably deficient in courage and spirit.
The practices of slavery and thralldom are abhorrent, and as a society we should condemn them, and we should laud and respect the efforts of Thrax to bring about reform. Changing that which has been held as normal for untold years cannot happen overnight, and it cannot be easy, and I find nothing but respect for those who would take up such a noble cause at the risk of their own standings amongst their kin.
We all have a duty to seek the truth, and to face that truth when we find it. I honor the Legate for making such difficult decisions, and his continued efforts to teach us all of the truth of the Gods. It is not easy to discover that, in the past, we have made mistakes and had them become ingrained into our understanding of the world. Let us respect the courage of one who would confront that truth and take action to resolve the matter, rather than taking the comfortable path of ignoring it. Though our opinions are not always the same, I have always believed him to be both respectable and devoted to his gods and duties. In this I have yet to be disappointed.
I can only hope that the people of Arx will spend as much energy working against the enemies and forces arrayed against us, as they do working to discredit and cast shadow upon their peers.
I fear that will not be the case.
