The reflection of love is fear.

When we love, fear is birthed. From fear, many things. Anger, grief, sorrow, all of these come at their root from love. This is yet another example of Duality in life and Unity in all things. Princess Sorrel has recently been through great loss, which is the realization of deep fear, if you will. The Shrine of the Thirteenth and its Mirrormasks welcome the Princess to enter into a period of reflection to master herself as she faces the truest cost of love.

Owen and the Seraceni scholars have collected, to the best of their abilities, the strategies of our greatest naval commanders, among them Lord Wash Kennex, the greatest sailor of our generation, Baroness Calla Vaevici, Duke Valdemar Grimhall, Lord Teague Charon, Lord Vicarin Saik, Baroness Ember Redreef, Count Duarte Amadeo, Lord Aedric Blackshore and Princess Lucrezia Pravus. These folios contain the collective knowledge of trade winds, currents, islands, supply caches and every known waterway between Arvum and the Saffron Chain. They include versatile strategies of attack and defense, born of minds who have seen countless battles at sea, and they are available to every naval commander of the Compact who should request it, so long as they vow to keep it secure.

Those who will be working closely with the Faith are encouraged to contact Carnifex Preston or Princess Damiana Valardin, who spoke at the symposium with great clarity and purpose.

Commanders seeking the aid of Mercies and physicians may contact Lady Eirene Riven or Sister Giada Morello, and those seeking knowledge on Eurus, Skal'daja, or Alaric III are encouraged to seek an audience with Archscholar Sina.

We are grateful to the intelligence shared by Lord Mirk and Duchess Khanne Halfshav, for the willingness of the Spirit Walkers to join us at sea, and to High Lord Victus Thrax, whose people have suffered much in the greater war for freedom, and who has chosen to bring the might of the Thraxian fleet to the defense of the Compact.

Relationship Note on Valerius

Joy arrived with fear, in word if not deed,
a nicety providing entry into other ideas:
what does it mean to drown? Breathlessness
came later, two years of captive attention
before any boundary was breached.
How long had I watched the waves
without worrying about their gravity,
without noticing how I'd been pulled
in, under?
Captive to
your tides
for years,
six more,
blissful,
sinking &
suddenly:
darkness,
emptiness
down here
where you
left me--
so cold without your sunlight.

On a contract I met a man in tattered clothes who offered me a drank. I scoffed at him, for I was dressed in my finest weapons and armor, and suggested I buy him one. In response, he chuckled and asked why I so offered, to which I answered, "because I am richer than you, Signore, and I am an honest and generous soldier."

To that, he asked me, "and who is more powerful than a soldier?" I responded: "a noble with many riches, of course."

In reply, he asked with a smile: "and who is more powerful than a noble?" I responded, after some thinking: "why the sun, of course, because without it the crops would not grow and the people would starve."

In reply, he laughed and asked another question: "and what is more powerful than the sun?" I responded, again after thinking: "a great cloud, I suppose, one that could block out the light."

In reply, he grinned and asked: "and what is more powerful than the darkest cloud?" I laughed, and responded: "the Great North Wind, for it can move anything?"

In reply, he laughed again and asked: "and what can the Great North Wind not move?" I shrugged, and responded: "a boulder on a plain."

In reply, he asked on more question: "and what can break that boulder?" And I, weary of the game and wanting the drink that had arrived, told him: "the Gods, I suppose; I don't know."

And then he took from under his shirt his chisel and hammer, for he was a stonecutter, and I laughed, surrendered, and let him pay for the first round.

I wrote a shopping list.
1 pound of carrots
2 pounds potatoes
10 apples
Salt
Sugar
Flour
Butter
Eggs

Went to the market, and there were NO BUTTER. Can you believe it. The vendor said someone had bought it all for some big bakery project. I had to go to another market and it took a whole hour extra, so then I did not have time to sort my foreign coin collection.

I read some more in the math book and told the neighbor. He asked me if I could just go back to having loud partiets at night so he could complain about that instead, since that at least is interesting.

Feels like I had another productive day!

P. S. Must remember to complain about the butter issue to everyone.

Relationship Note on Savio

Remind me to have you take notes for every meeting in the future Savio. This was everything and you have a gift for...well you know what you have a gift for. We love you for it. While I will refrain from adding additional commentary on the subject I was quite confused about the level of piety expected as members of the Peerage. Granted this is no doubt due to the fact that I am 'a faithless Prodigal upstart' but it was very relieving to hear the people of the Compact share their own opinions on that particular subject.

Marquis Dio had an endless amount of patience and didn't respond to the provocations from the Thraxian attendants. Princess Lucrezia speaks in the way of Tremorus, direct and without apology for shooting straight. My impression from that meeting was utterly depressing. There is animosity towards our new Lieges, perhaps towards the entire fealty -- of this I cannot be too sure yet because I honestly don't understand some of the undertones in the first place. Overtures were made to people being criminals and tasteless, which was ironic considering the circumstances. With all this being said I sincerely hope people can set aside their differences for the common wellbeing of Arvum.

Our enemy is united as one in their hatred against us and I can imagine that even though the various noble houses of Skal'daja have their gripes and peeves with one another they're leaving it for after the coming war or, more optimistically, they are settling those scores before the conflict begins so their cohesion will not suffer for it. I have to say as the newest House to join the Compact from what I have seen this is...not good.

I have acquired a very large egg. I have endeavored to hatch it.

It is about the size of my hand. White with reddish brownish speckling.

I did consider eating it, but then it made a noise. Like a scratching type of sound. I suppose it's past the time when eggs should be eaten. But that also should mean I'm not carrying around a rotting egg.

Which inspired many ideas about weaponizing rotting eggs. If only they burst into flame or ate flesh upon contact! Now that would be a thing!

It seems to me the Crimson Blades need an alchemist with a good imagination and a mind for weapons. Must not be short on a sense of humor, too.

Lest I appear cruel I want to state the following.

I said mercy blooms from love. I also said the working of mercy is our keeping in love. I think love is a wonderful thing; I think it must be cherished where it is found; and I think it is important to cultivate. Embrace love when you can. Do not let it go.

I said mercy feeds on pity. I also said the working of mercy turns us to do good to others. I think it is virtuous to do good; I think altruism is wondrous; and I think it should be praised. Give what you will to others. Give as much as you can.

I said mercy is selfish. I also said the working of mercy is to unburden our hearts. I think we ought to feel no shame indulging in mercy; I think there is no wrong in liberating ourselves; and I think there is no ill in doing so. Dive into healing. Let it surround you.

What I said is there is no room for the meek in service. Boldly give your loyalty to your soldiers, your excellence to your liege, and your life to your realm. Support these pillars of our society and when you march onto the battlefield, you will do so with the acme of honor.

If my vision seems stark and unrelenting, so be it.

6 horses pull a wagon. Each horse is a noble and intelligent creature. Each horse knows how best it wants to move. And yet, if each of them lead then all of them falter and the wagon clatters to a halt and tips over in the road. Sometimes no matter how noble and intelligent a creature, it is necessary for them to first look at what unites and binds them in purpose. The cart, it's harnesses, the gentle tugs of the wagon master to suggest the direction to go. Hitched together the horses are not as fast as they would be free, but together they can do so much more, achieve such great things. But only when they first look to what unites them, and listens to its pull.

I have learned two truths recently.

I have a distinct "type" when it comes to men.

And

There seems to be quite a few of them in this City.

I'm in trouble.

We've had some ups and downs in my younger days, but she's one of the futures of the Greenwood Forest, Smart. Minxy. Useful. Counsiny. I'm not sure her mind ever stops. The forest will count on her to lead our people into the world and I'm proud to call her cousin.

The head of the Greenmarch family. A good head on his shoulder able to shoulder the weird of the past, and the present of the future. Particularly close to and have always trusted him, even when I'm throwing pouty fits. He is the present of the Greenwood Forest and it's people, half of the bridge that brings the past and the future of our people together.

Relationship Note on Eithne

I'm very excited to write that Eithne Thornburn is prepared to tolerate my presence in her forge! She read about my helmet plight and we spent a long evening discussing smithing, crafting, and possible adventures! All in all, a rather good night. Between her and Dame Ida, I'm unlikely to inadvertently lose a limb.

I hope.

I guess we can't predict these things.
