Relationship Note on Gael

(( ooc commentary: What happens when you juxtapose a day spent fencing on the proving grounds, with a cider & mead - fueled night at the 'Bee for Mabelle's Limerick contest? Some very strange things happen when you wake up the next day, my friends . . . some very strange things indeed! ))

"Before Gael hit my head with an Axe . . .
I really didn't -have- any knacks . . .
Yet -now- I can rhyme . . .
and -do-, all the time, . . .
Who -knows- why, but -that's- just the -facts- !"

- a suitably befuddled Prince Raimon **

** (( ooc note: But only after I spent half the +Event Google-ing: How-to-write-a-Limeri..., wait, does that have 1 m or 2? ))

I met Duke Mal's sister today. And she's just as fantastic as he is, but with an entirely different story! Are all Shepherds this amazing?

Correct. If he's got a sailor's swagger and a thinning hairline - that's my courier.

Conversations in Existentialism

1: Whenever I meditate and let my mind drift, I feel less like a single being and more like...a reflection off everything's surface.

2: Well, you kind of are, aren't you? What is the self other than an illusion that helps your body navigate existence?

Conversations in Existentialism

1: If sharing my creations doesn't make me happy...then why do I feel so compelled to do it?

2: Because the motivation behind these acts of sharing, has never been fleeting happiness. It's to make the internal external. To see if your work can survive outside itself. It's bigger than joy. It's communicating in a language of your own making and seeing who else can connect to it.

I've studied symbols, glyphs, sigils, and other ways of communicating for the better part of a decade and I've never come across any symbol like the one drawn by Marquessa Igniseri and mentioned by Scholar Oswyn. What is it? It's so simple, how is it not present in the Great Archive. Well. I may know the answer to that, but... it has caught my fancy. If you know anything about it, I would very much like to speak with you.

Tea is wonderful for chatting and conversation; pie is even better, but that's the opinion of a baker that loves pie.

The fear of death reduces life to dust.

That fear erects the walls which prevents true joy from touching us. That fear is then concealed and rendered banal by the spectacle of life. Death as a force loses all meaning when life is but a fatuous sequence of empty words. And death's head is an empty vessel when that which could fill it is obstructed by our own efforts to avoid and ignore that which is inevitable. Consequently, it is fear, not death, that reigns in the indolent, even worshipping that fear leads to nothing but a forgotten grave.

Remember, then, wise general: the carnival mask and the cadaver share the same fixed smile when one lives in fear.

Despite my attempts to find comfort in the Tower, I can't help but return to the Nightingale when my mind swirls like that of the turbulent sea. A creature comfort I suppose - this ship of mine - a place of refuge amongst all the unknown that makes up this city. The gentle rock and list of the ship while in the dockyard eases my nerves when my doubts grow to be too much.

I find myself waiting on letters, burying my nose in dusty old tomes and notes of scholars far smarter than I. A pleasant distraction I tell myself as the wick of my candle burns to its end, but I fear it only spurs more questions, adding to the cumbersome list I have.

Hopefully these new faces, new allies, new friends, perhaps they can help me. I just need to know who I can trust.

Random doodles. A vertical rectangle with a circle encased within, with the sides of the circle touching the sides of the rectangle.

It fills the page.

Hm. Scholar? Pardon? What? Oh. Don't mind me. Just something I saw once, somewhere. You don't happen to know what it is do you?

There's been an awful lot of talk the last few days about the excursion some months back around Nilanza that resulted in a confrontation with a notorious pirate captain. How strange the public has latched onto this now. But of course, the public has the details wrong - as the public is wont to do. I'll not ruin the Lycene opinion of me by sullying the story with the truth. What a strange rumor to wake up to!

Far more importantly? A prize purse of 25000 silver is on the line at the next Eswynd feast. I'm looking forward to seeing who competes and claims the prize as the last one standing in the sparring contest.

We of the Compact do not enjoy freedom because it was given to us on a piece of paper.

Freedom is only true when it is a habit. It only exists in how we treat one another with courtesy, respect, and dignity. It only survives when everyone rises up to meet any attempt to impair it with violence. And it only thrives where we are courageous enough not only to demand it from our private circles, but from those outside it without regard to tradition, title, or rank.

We owe all the rights and privileges we enjoy today not to the good will of our leaders, but to our own strength.
