Balls and more importantly Masquerades can be quite fun. But a tip to those considering attending, go with friends or a date. I have yet to secure one to this ball, but I shan't fail to take my own advice. The mystique is fun to be sure, but people do tend not to stray far from whom they came with and it is always best to have a friend you can related to at such an event. I do wonder how future generations will handle the masked event.

Relationship Note on Aahana

A gifted and talented noble who has proven herself not only to me but also her house. I am looking forward to our further trade ventures with one another.

I watched Coraline stand in the water, the same water that I did when I bound my hands and future to Thrax and to Victus. Watched him bind her hand to oaths of knighthood. Something that he has been in his heart of hearts, trying to do. I had thought perhaps that it might be who took the first oath, but it was Coraline. I wore my armor, stood to the side and watched as she spoke the words.

I wonder how many more will step forward to take the steps that she does? How many more will take their seasilk and what colours will they choose, what designs. Will Astrid do this? Or instead of her, will Danse take this step after he has done squiring with Valardin? Will Fatchforth take them and if so, what design will he place upon his sash. I am proud.

So terribly proud. Dear Dragon, so much changes and yet so much remains the same. Would that you could see. Some day at least, you will be a part of it all again. Maybe you'll stand knee deep in the water and speak those words.

Relationship Note on Galen

I've seen that Prince Galen Thrax writes the sweetest love letters to his wife.

Perhaps he'd be willing to tutor other people's husbands, the sort that don't like scrawling romantic missives to their wives.

I can think of at least one potential student.

So far, spending winter in a giant house is even stranger than spending it in a tiny inn room. Arguably it's not that different; I'm even around a number of the same people. Mostly my room is just much, much, much larger. And the paintings on the wall are much weirder. And you don't have loud drunks stumbling home in the middle of the night (because they already live here).

Relationship Note on Seth

Lord Steelhart is fast becoming a friend and I adore his presence as well as his hounds. Tonight though I feel as though I pushed a bit too much and caused some anxiety. So I will make it up to him.

Relationship Note on Norwood

Sir Norwood is always gracious when we meet and he even mistakenly called me a Princess once. Which when I corrected him he didn't take it as me scolding him. He won the Winter Gauntlet and showed that it never hurts to keep at what you love. I consider him a friend and I hope to see him around the Gauntlet more and more.

Tonight I hosted the Telmar Winter Gauntlet with Lord Seth Steelhart and it was a good affair. Sir Norwood won and took home Winter's Gift as his prize. It was donated by a member of the Keaton Family so I am sure that it will be well loved. After the event me being my brave self, decided to try to show Lord Seth how it was done and I calculated my first obstacle poorly. Not only knocking myself senseless, but injuring him as well. I will have to make it up to him. But I do at least get to have Cale for the evening. Maybe he thinks that was the plan all along...

Brother-in-law you do indeed know where I sleep. Next to Frostfang, every night, with one eye open, like all proper northern men. I invite you to disturb me when I'm not making a racket!

Relationship Note on Sorrel

Book,

You know it perhaps isn't said enough how important having the right person to stand beside you is. I don't mean on the battlefield, though I'd welcome her at my side on the battlefield anytime. I mean in life, it is so important to have the right person to live life with at your side. The strength you can draw from simply knowing someone loves you the way you love them is undeniable, a reason to live when facing the darkest enemy.

For me, Sorrel is all of that and more and since it has been some time since I have publicly proclaimed my love to her in a journal, I thought it fitting to do so. I hope that everyone is lucky enough to find their Sorrel.

I shall now commit to the Archives for all time an account of the Great Snowball Battle of 1009.

On the field were assembled Compact citizens of all stripes by the good Amanda Whisper, to do honorable snow combat for the glory of the Crown. The teams were assembled. I was chosen to fight beside our steadfast leaders, Princess Tikva Grayson and the peerless Captain Tiber Riven. By my side was Aleksei Morgan and the ADORABLE Fitz, Master Waldemai, Sir Jeffeth, Lady Lethe, and Master Jonathan. We faced off against our fearsome opponents led by Dame Felicia of the King's Own, and represented by Count Artorius, Prince Niklas, Lord Geralt, Lady Azova, and Master Ven. All who held the field this day shall be remembered in the halls of history.

We faced off against each other and the battle was fierce. Balls of snow flew this and way that with the speed of the fiercest arrows and strength of battering rams. It was a long and valiant struggle that Dame Felicia's team gave us. But, in the end, our side was victorious, and we claimed the...snow.

Let the bards write songs of our valor and stamina against the cold.

I shall be back next year, if it's held again. This was entirely fun.

I am happy to report the Royal Snowball Fight - my first event as Royal Event Coordinator - was a smashing success! While many seemed more than happy to sip warm drinks and nibble on sweet rolls, there were a good many that were ready to battle. Princess Tikva, Deputy Crown Minister of Youth and Families, was captain of one team. Dame Felicia of the King's Own was captain of the other. Princess Tikva's team claimed victory, but not without a lot of snow flying every which way, and many hits on either side.

Now I need to set my mind to planning the next royal event. If anyone has any ideas, do please send them my way!

Inverno Imports & Exports is open for business. Just as the Empyrean route has opened. I would say it's fortuitous, but that would diminish the work that went into finding the office, securing the writs and documents, signing on captains, and negotiating contracts. The work of many months and a good way to kick off the turning of the year.

Relationship Note on Kenna

While I rarely reply on someone else' entries, I must disagree with Kenna and her call to repair another journal. For sometimes, cats purring away on part of you is incredibly soothing. Dogs often forget they get too big for such things, and also drool... and worse.

Please note that the scholars may take some time preparing your journal for others to read.
