Do you have to be present at the Gala to win one of the cloaks through the raffle? No, you do not (but why wouldn't you be!)

I can attest to the fact that the spoon bit snaps off rather more easily than one might expect, and the stick part packs quite a surprising little bite of its own.

Recent personal events have had me considering a few concepts that on the surface appear simple but often times at the critical moment seem anything but.

Someone I consider very wise once said to me to consider the consequences of each action. This is wisdom often lost in the moment however what about when you know the action is wrong but the one who demands the action does so for what you have been told is the only right reason? The action is still wrong, that doesn't change, but that moment when you give in for duty, for trust, for loyalty, for any number of "right" reasons, it has consequences and you can no more change them then you can go back in time and change your decision.

What is done is done and leaves behind pain and broken trust on many sides. However, the definition of stupid is doing the same action and expecting a different result. The first time was inexcusable, there will not be a second.

As a few questions have been asked about the Gala Raffle, here are the answers:

Yes, you may buy tickets on behalf of another person, but the limit is still 100 tickets per person
No, you are not excluded if you have contributed to the Gala in some way (being on the Committee or donating prizes); the only people excluded are myself and Prince Tyrval (no matter how loudly he complains)
No, you may not attempt to seduce me for free tickets (you know who you are)
Yes, you may see these impressive cloaks before the Gala; Mistress Petal was good enough to host mock-ups in her shop (ooc-you can see them on Petal's wiki gallery)
Yes, you will still be able to buy tickets at the Gala itself, but for my sanity, I would appreciate pre-purchase
No, I'm not going to run away with the cloaks; yes, the thought has crossed my mind

Any other questions may be directed my way and I will be happy to answer them expediently.

I won't opine on Blessed Aureth or his points, in part because he is bored, in part because he is a Blessed and I have nothing to add.

What I will opine on, good scholar, are two points that the latest kerfluffle raised.

The first is simple. Yes. All duels are of interest to Gloria, just as all oaths are to Limerance. Just as Limerance and Gloria guard all honour, from the greatest King to the lowest serf. There is no oath you can break because it is a little oath - if you swear an oath to deliver an apple to a man, it is still a stain for you to fail. Your fault was in making an oath over something so trifling and then failing in it. Equally all duels are of interest, and if you fight a duel over a small matter - over a trivial matter - then it is on you to ensure that even if that is the case it is handled with all the importance as any duel.

Finally, unless your surname is 'Godsworn', you probably should not opine with certainty on what the Gods think or want. You are unlikely to have that right.

Personally however, the question of the spoon as a weapon does have an interesting side to explore should it be proven to be an effective if not efficient weapon - is such a weapon dishonourable in its usage because of the suffering such a blunt weapon without impact can create? It seems as a weapon it would create suffering beyond what is required, and thus be seen as reveling in that.

I don't even care if it is a challenge, duel, or sing-off - there are QUITE a few people I would be more than happy to cheer for in a shirtless anything.

Please do not buy up all the aeterna. I have an idea for a very important dress. I'll need at least some for that, and for slippers. And, I've decided on aeterna for the fashion, as seasilk was going to be used for the last dress and well - I do not want to repeat that.

I would -- certainly -- be pleased to have a shirtless Champion singing to defend my honor before citizenry and the gods.

I met a Whisper! A real, actual, true to life Whisper. She was everything the stories say a Whisper should be - elegant, gracious, graceful, intelligent, and educated. I've met many courtiers, even played that game briefly a time or two, but Whispers, or at least THIS Whisper, truly are a thing apart.

Also, the public baths are wonderful. Just wonderful! After a very long day, it felt amazing to just soak my bones for a little bit. It must be very expensive to keep them running, but it's worth every silver spent on admission. (And I don't often say that! It's my feeling that it's always worth trying to argue down a fee or price a LITTLE, just to keep people on their toes. And save me money. I like money.)

The nobility is ((blotch of ink, as if the writer paused here for too long)) not of the sort that I am accustomed to in my travels. Perhaps it is the fact that so many of them are outside of the lands that they rule? I think they mean well!

I am starting to get restless, even so soon after the rush of becoming an official shop-owner. The last time I spent this much time in one place, my leg was broken (advice for anyone who ends up reading this for some reason in the next generations: sometimes water is not as deep as it looks from fifteen feet above, and although it probably still makes a better alternative than an angry black bear behind you, prepare to handle unexpected shallowness better than screaming and flailing). I think I'm going to make some scouting trips into the surrounding areas. I'm sure, once you get past the farms, there are some interesting things around here - although this close to Arx, I imagine any real ruins have long been picked over. But it's good to keep the skills sharp! I don't like breaking limbs when my skills AREN'T sharp.

If the participants in a duel believe honor is satisfied by the choice of weapon, and the commons enjoy the show, the Champions have done their duty by Gloria. Have they not?

Any who believe music may not stand as a weapon in honor before the gods may address their complaints to the extremely skeptical look on my face.

I have been practicing the eyebrows.

Relationship Note on Belladonna

As Sabella has written, my intent was simply to separate the act of participating in the action of the duel from issuing the challenge. The duel is the necessary result of an accepted challenge, however I would not say I fought the duel, as that seems like it would take something away from the person who swung the sword, sweated and bled for the challenger and challenged. I challenged Duchess Grazia, Sir Jeffeth and Grandmaster Caspian fought the duel. I recognize that the two are intimately connected, and if it is wrong to separate them even this much, then I apologize and ask that you blame the fact that I have done this so rarely.

As for the rest, if you would like to speak in person about it, I would be happy to do so. This scholar probably took up white writing for the day to escape another shift of copying dusty old tomes, and while I am only too happy to have him write down every silly thought that passes through my head, I wouldn't wish to push things.

Oh, I have no doubt at all that spoons can be lethal.

However, I was brought up with only one type of spoon. Personally I would snap the spoon bit off and stick the rest in someone’s...whatever.

It’s nice to know there are some specialty weapon-style spoons out there though.

This was yesterday's argument and I'm bored of it now, but I would certainly agree that my dear friend Aleksei would have no business participating in a sing off.
