Relationship Note on Victus

Knives.

Lord Wash taught Cerilla to juggle knives and she now enjoys going to the training center and throwing them at her father. It's amazing how accurate she has gotten. I fear for whoever may one day attack her and come against her temper and her knives.

Relationship Note on Zara

My Aunt Dorcas, she'll be beside herself to know her advice not only worked but worked well enough that her highness, the Gilded Dragon herself, made kind and generous offer of patronage. To dress a personage such as Princess Zara is beyond all hope and expectation. Were it not for Dorcas' advice, I couldn't have managed the interview, whatever the quality of the trinket I gifted her to speak for me as an example of my needle's ability.

As I told her, the full price of my first sale has gone on to Gild's shrine, in her royal name. It didn't take very long. See my previous entry, about the wealth here.

This is a very wealthy city. Wealthy in silver, wealthy in words. More words than silver, perhaps.

Apparently my wife reads the whites. She's a delightful creature of whom I can't imagine anyone would ever say a bad thing of. Of course, I am glad I always only ever speak the truth.

I have words to write about Sister Juniper. Let it simply be said for now that they are ones that should not be rushed -- nothing to honor her should be done in haste.

As for other matters, my, how people do talk.

There are times when I read the whites, and find myself thankful that House Laurent tends to find itself relatively free of scandal.

[A song in progress, untitled]:

This morning early I went (oh-ho)
To the riverside shore
To lie 'neath the summertime leaves
To dance in warm gleeful winds
And pluck up pearly shells from the sands
And who should I meet?
(Oh who should I greet?)

Relationship Note on Charis

What can I say. When one door is slammed in the face, one strives to open another. There is, beyond the shadow of a doubt, a tailor of divine fingers in the Valardin ward. With such stellar skill in the inclusion of the classical ways of Valardin fashion. Already I have a handful of dresses that have emerged from her shop and there's countless more being produced.

Charis of Aeternal Aegis. I intend to champion this woman, and see her name on the lips of everyone. Her master of the Artshall velvet has me forgetting about my poor nose and running my hand over my hips as I marvel at the stitching. A golden girdle, that's what I need to go with this. Shimmering in canary diamonds. Oh yes...

A new era, a new legend. This I am sure.

Relationship Note on Norwood

I thought it would be best to formally record an apology to you, Uncle Norwood, for placing in your garden, a large figure of stick and twine without your permission or knowledge. I'm sorry. I meant well and it was made in earnest, but I am sorry for the distress it caused when you finally noticed it there bringing blessings to your beets and other vegetables. I'm also very sorry for laughing so much at the time. I take full responsibility.

I will, of course, help see a shrine built and properly dedicated to Petrichor in its place.

I think we've been to the Shrine of Mangata a record seven times this week. I'm coming to the terms with the fact that I may never be able to match, or even comprehend the exuberance that powers a five year old. I understand /less/ about Scarf and his constant need to paddle and steal, but that isn't even the same species.

Wonder if I can convince the girl whether or not she'd have fun at the Training Center as well. I'm longing to heft Barathrum. I've sat still too long, grown too much rust. Maybe I could ask around for sparring partners. Or maybe she wants to learn to swing something small. Wooden axe? Wooden dagger? Maybe.

Rissa would kill me if I let her run with the sharp stuff. We'll hold out on that for another few years.

It is good to see that while House Pravus liberates slaves in the Saffron Chain and fights against those who hold their chains that the City of Arx busies itself with subjects of actual, real importance. Since these are so fundamental, I suppose I must entertain them.

Princess Arianna Pravus is not in the Choir of Pravus. She speaks for herself. Anyone trying to peddle anything else is trying to sell a disingenuous angle.

That being done with, I do reprimand the choice of Sir Jeffeth Bayweather's champion, for the reasons mentioned by others. I understand grief makes us blind, and that feeling as if our beloved are being mocked can make the blood boil, but that decision is absolutely beyond the pale, and a disrespect to the Oathlands.

As it is, I believe we are admist a real crisis against a powerful foreign nation, and although we all love a good duel, this has grown beyond a mere slight that Champions might be able to mend. This sort of deep toxicity is unbecoming to Peers of our Compact.

I suggest we write this off as a gauche comment, an overblown reaction, and go back to war.

Relationship Note on Juniper

I liked Sister Juniper Godsworn. I remember meeting her when she joined the Whispers. We came from similar backgrounds, the two of us: very little to our names. Joining the Whispers brought us up in society, and we both used that status. But we used it to different means, and our paths diverged.

Juniper used her status as a Whisper to mend relationships, to work as a diplomat. To heal and provide aid to the poor and downtrodden. I took the more glamourous route and urged her to do the same.

When Juniper became Godsworn, I attended the ceremony, though I didn't understand why she did it. I still don't, to be honest, but I respected her decision and I quite liked her.

She is to be respected.

Relationship Note on Preston

Strange how it is perfectly acceptable for Sir Jeffeth, the Grandmaster of the Knights of Solace to throw 'as a Godsworn' 'you disrespected a Godsworn' 'I'm a Godsworn, I know stuff!' all over in the language of his challenge and subsequent arguments, and it's "just a personal matter".

But the second Arianna puts the word 'Pravus' anywhere in a journal, you and other members of the Faith want to leap up and cry about how suddenly she's making it something bigger.

I am rather disappointed to see influential members of the Faith such as the Grandmaster of the Templars attempting to incite unrest and panic amongst the populace in these trying times by building this matter up into something it isn't, rather than simply going to his fellow Knight Grandmaster and addressing this incredibly distasteful Obeiron business.

I am /so/ surprised that this is the route the leadership of the Faith would opt to take.

I have seen nor heard anyone from Pravus, or anyone even remotely related to Pravus, supporting Princess Arianna. Because this /is/ a personal matter, and we are aware of that. She can handle it herself. You however, seem to be making a point of inflaming the matter until it is a distraction from the Compact's more pressing business.

Pravus has already dealt with an incursion from Skal'daja, we know that needs to be the focus of our attention at this time.

The Carnifex should perhaps turn his gaze that way, rather than focus on petty drama in the Capital.

It is said Vellichor spoke, "I am the god of histories, and this shall not be the final chapter of the history of your world. This has cost me more than I hope you shall ever learn, but I ask for but little in return. Let the most studious amongst you take sacred vow to forever guard the knowledge of the world, and allow all among you from the greatest to the least to chronicle their lives in journals so their knowledge may never be lost. Guard it well."

In asking us for this gift, Vellichor gives yet another gift. Every single written word holds our thoughts and our actions.
We are free to reflect on these if we decide to. The words are written down, protected and guarded.
