Relationship Note on Sina

My last correspondence from Archscholar Sina Godsworn:

Date: 10/9/1014 AR

Lady Lailah,

I will be leaving the city for a time, heading to Tremorus to accompany the Seraceni and Pravosi
ships to investigate the rumors of Eurusi attempts to recruit the Shavs there. It seems my
particular presence is needed in this instance. I wished to let you know before my departure, so
that you can be prepared for my extended absence. I hope that you will be able to continue your
work as Magister of the Academy in my absence, and should you have a need for guidance, I have also
informed Legate Bianca of my intention to go, as well as Sir Preston. I suspect I shall return in
one piece. Until then, may the Gods keep you.

In faith and friendship,

Sina

I have not taken the time to commit anything to the whites as of late, though it is not for lack of things to commit. I have been busily welcoming cousins and other Crownlanders to the city, helping them get settled and ensuring they have connections. My work with the Grayson vassals to assist with war preparations has also required a significant amount of my attention - and even more significant investments. And now, having been pulled in by my courageous elder sister to face a formidable challenge? I am relieved the children have nannies so I might devote my attention to Lou's aims. This means I get to know Princess Natasha better, which is a lovely addition. She is such an intelligent, thoughtful, steady presence. I am reassured by having her on our side to assist with research and counsel. I will need to continue to work hard within the Crownlands, and the Compact as a whole.

All of this work is not without some moments to enjoy the the social scene of the city, however. I had the distinct pleasure of attending the welcome party for Lady Tila Sanna, who was wonderful to meet. There were so many notable individuals at the event, I know I didn't get the chance to say hello to everyone I should have. I hope to have the opportunity to speak with Lady Sanna in a less distracting environment soon, the little I did get to see of her made it apparent that she deserves more of my attention. Marquis Cirroch was a fantastic host, and I am grateful for his invitation. It was a shame cousin Sasha could not be there.

Niklas was unable to attend, as well. He has been out of the city for the past fortnight, working on a new play as I understand it. We, the children and I, miss him. And winter is fully settled upon the land. His travel back to the city is likely to be delayed longer.

Relationship Note on Alis

I'm so glad we've had a chance to reconnect, especially considering our shared experiences. It doesn't hurt to have a tiny glimmer of fun in our lives when the rest of the world is so dark, and I'm grateful you share that view. I have every faith you will continue to lead with the strength and grace you always have.

Cirroch threw a welcome home party for me. Our guests were primarily composed of Princes and Princesses. Neither Cirroch nor I were expected our party to be graced by the presence of so many.

Prince Baldessare Velenosa, remembering my love of books, gifted to me an ebony bookcase with several volumes. It was a most generous gift.

I met many interesting individuals, including Lady Ivy Blackram, who is betrothed to Nazmir. I look forward to having such a wonderful person related by marriage and for Nazmir to be so happy.

Last night I attended the formal unveiling and showing of the jewellery found by Lady Kaia and the Society of Explorers. It was a wonderful evening, not only because the pieces were beautiful and so wonderfully restored by Messere Evaristo Arterius, but because I had the opportunity to meet so many new people. Such a tale of excitement and adventure was told by our host in the finding of these gems that it quite left me in awe of their daring, and I'm sure that there will be many jewellers within the city whom will be using them as inspiration for pieces of their own.

It almost made me wish to be as adventurous myself. Almost.

She'll never know. Ever. Probably for the best. I don't know. The scratching is just so loud. I need to drown it out with serenading Caprice while while she works.

The Pathfinder's legal conundrum is an interesting one and laden with some very intricate difficulties that touch upon some incredibly thorny history. I had the pleasure and privilege of sitting down with her and her sister today discussing it.

But as always, the more difficult the problem is, the more engaged I am.

The role of legal counsel is to always do four things - to identify the problems of a case, to ascertain the rule of law that is most relevant to it, analyze the facts in light of the law, and then tally the viable options based on that analysis.

Like any other matter that deals with the law, however, this one requires some research. I would not be comfortable making any presentations or demonstrations of the sort, otherwise.

I have a roof above me, I have the sea and stars
I have a man to hold my heart, and take me in his arms
Although sometimes this life of mine feels more than I can stand
I would not part with any pain; I am a lucky man

I have friends who care to know me, their kindness unrelenting
Healers who have saved my life, kept everything from ending
Although I've broken precious things -- these foolish, clumsy hands
I would still pick up the pieces; I am a lucky man

I have a purpose moving me, a people and a voice
I know now what I'd die for, if I was given choice
Although it's taken so much hurt to finally see the plan
I would change no part of this; I am a lucky man.

Relationship Note on Tila

A grand party welcoming my sister Tila to the city was had at the Manor tonight. Whiskey flowed, many candied fruits were eaten, and only one child escaped their bedtime.

Many thanks to all that came out, Princess Deva Redrain, Prince Lenard Valardin, Princess Gwenna Redrain, Princess Sabella, Prince Baldessare Velenosa,
Prince Noah Grayson, Lady Sapphira Sanna, Lady Ivy Blackram, Prince Nazmir Redrain, Prince Artur Redrain, Princess Valencia Velenosa, Lady Kaia Malvici, Prince Patrizio Pravus, Lady Kiera Wyvernheart, and Archduchess Princess Jaenelle Velenosa.

It is with high hopes that the rest of the city will welcome my sister well.

Some days are suffocating and still, but lately I find my head spinning from trying to uncover everything all at once. The piles of books in my room are getting difficult to maneuver around. I have a strangely shaped bruise on my shin from bumping into what was the tallest tower. Juggling oranges is so much easier than this attempt at multitasking.

What sort of boost? I can promise Lord Titus that us in the north are just as loyal and courageous as you or anyone else. Same with our preparations.

Best regards and lots of well wishes!

I'm not a jeweler, by any means. I know enough of smithing and the intricacies of jewelry making to forge pretty things now and again, though. I already had thoughts of making some brooches and using the stunning seraphinite stones I've had gathering dust for awhile now, so watching the snow fall this morning ended up to be the perfect inspiration. I find I really enjoy working with pewter, partly because it's easy for someone of my skill level to work with, but mostly due to the color. It's not as pure or gleaming as silver, but there is a great beauty to the unique variations it has. In any case, I put no few out in the cases and we'll see how they do. At the end of the day, I enjoyed tinkering with something different than my usual stock once again.

I attempted to explain my latest goals to Queen Symonesse recently. I know it's an impossible task. Probably doomed to fail. But one I must try. Her response, paraphrased of course:

You Grayson's sure do not know how to do anything easy, do you?

Which is fair. I mean, I explore things. Some might think it's easy but it can be fraught with dangers. Lots of dangers. People have died exploring. Just go consult Norman Grayridge's journals.

But this? I'm out of my depth and know it. But, I have a start. We'll see if I sink or swim. There will be a lot of obstacles and uphill battles.

I can accept if I just end up treading water.

It was good to hear some of the opinions in the Salon about Eurus, and through the discussions I think things have come into crystal clarity.

When it comes to the matter of any peace with Eurus, I feel as though we have made our decision quite clear. At this point, there is no peace that can be brokered without a decisive victory or a crushing defeat that could be called anything close to sincere peace, and that means what it is has ever meant:

Blood. Blood enough to make Sungreet look like a dress rehearsal, I suspect.

And I know on whose hands that blood shall fall.

Relationship Note on Lasha

It might be time to follow the next leg of this journey. Much to Lasha's glee, gods scholar, I can see his smile beaming from ear to ear when I say this out loud.

Thank you to the medics and doctors over the last couple of months. I'm sorry to have caused everyone worry.
Lassies Clarissies (Lady Clarisse Charon), Lady Kalani Seliki, Lady Mabessells (Mabelle) Laurent, Docteries Lassies (Lady Medeia Eswynd), Lady Ivy Blackram, and countless others that have worked on keeping me on this side of the veil.

So there seems to be some kind of questionnaire people are volunteering to place in their whites. Seems an interesting exercise at least, so I'll answer as well as I can.

1. What are you afraid of?
Never figuring out who I am supposed to be or what my place in this world is. Besides the obvious answers, I am Lady Sylvana Leporidae nee Chatreuxe-DeVirre, formerly of Brindleberry Wood, leaving my home has made me reflect on myself and realize that I never did figure out what I wanted with my life. I hope I figure it out before it's too late.

2. What are your opinions on honor?
Honor is important. It's how you present yourself to the world and show that you are a person of integrity. Once it's lost it can be nearly impossible to restore again.
3. What path do you see for yourself?
Not seeing the path before me is perhaps what frightens me the most. Sure I can make guesses, I can ascribe my hopes, but honestly those things are not for the whites. I hope the path for myself is good, and that I can enact positive change in my future, I just don't know where that will wind up being.

4. You can give one piece of advice to one who really needs advice to live by. What do you tell them? Live your life as if everything could be taken from you in an instant, but not so foolishly you forget that there are consequences for your actions. This is something many learn the hard way, and not all are so lucky as I was to get a chance to fix my mistakes.

I attended a feast of the senses, hosted by Archduchess and Princess Jaenelle Velanosa, an adventure to be sure, though I am still trying to figure out who my companion was that night. He was gentle, careful and the breathtaking gown I wore, remained pristine throughout the evening. From the conversations of those around us, that did not seem to be the case for some. I, now find myself listening for that familar voice in the hopes I may discover who my companion was. He was charming and made me laugh. I found the entire evening indulgent and sensual. He was not afraid of touch, to let my hands glide along his arms to find his mouth, and I found that made me feel more comfortable when he did the same. He is careful and delightful. And a mystery.

Relationship Note on Titus

To my Lord Titus of House Vaevici,

I concur that the choice made by the former Duke of House Bisland was both noble and exemplary, but I am uncertain as to why you hope it might serve to be inspire the people of the Northlands.

Are you suggesting that the Northlanders are lack in courage or loyalty? Are you suggesting that they are neither training nor preparing for war right now? From personal experience I know well that Northlanders are as courageous and loyal as any, and that they are always training and preparing for war.

The misery of today lies at the door of those who seek too eagerly the challenges of war for naught but personal gain, knowing that they can throw to it men, women, and children who would otherwise contest their motives.

The winter is cold up north.

I wish you fortune in your pursuit of war.

-- General Piccola of House Tessere.
