Who was that woman? An omen, I think, perhaps for both good and ill. A strange one, at the very least. I think I might know who she is. Was. But... I can't be sure.
I won't be investigating that spot alone. Or at night. And yet, I'm rather looking forward to it.

We're something new and different in the world, still. Is that worth preserving?

Still, if I should find a prospective match who would marry in rather than me being expected to marry out, I am not dead set against a match. I am too bound up in my identity as a northerner to feel comfortable owing fealty to another land. I think the only other land I would feel like I could really identify with is Lenosia. The love of beauty, the romantic aspect, and the embrace of eccentricities and oddities and love of the arts, I feel a deep appreciation for and love of. It is little surprise, in that light, that my childhood friend also married Lenosian.

The event by Sir Andry was interesting - I learned a deal, though I am still nervous when people discuss history. So much is lost or half known, and what some present as certainty is conjecture.
But I had a visit after from Lady Teagan and her man Amund, with news from the Oathlands. It seems more than ever it is vital we get our force moving as soon as possible. Unfortunately I only know of House Laurent and House Blackram of the Oathlands who answered the call, but I hope that the Seraphs have answered the call and sent me the Templars I need. All the items have been prepared and begun shipping to Sanctum now - we took the banners of the Faith from their store in the roof of the armoury. We last used them for Dame Astraea's swearing ceremony, before that Stormwall. Lady Teagan and others will move ahead with the van and hopefully the tribes in the way will agree to move from the way and let us pass, or better yet will join the compact as brothers and sisters. But what waits us beyond? In the Red Mountains? Will Redrain forces hold the border, prevent our enemy's retreat? Will there even be forces of our enemy remaining to break? Are we too late?
Whatever happens we will hold true to Gloria's commands. We will protect the innocent, in the Abandoned and in our people, we will fight with honour, in a just cause, and we will remove her enemies from the face of Arvum.

So far I've met handsome men who play with warships, some people who speak in magically musical voices, giant dogs, sellswords and adventurers to boot!
It won't be long until Fairen and my family realizes I've been ditching my guards and exploring. Better enjoy it while it lasts.

Relationship Note on Avary
But it's civilization.
Because that's the thing, isn't it? We have a whole Pantheon. We have thirteen gods, and there's a really important reason for that. Which I don't have to tell Blessed Avary, I know. Mostly I wanted to sort of clarify some of the things I said at the gathering Sir Andry held, since she mentioned me.
Slavery is evil. But Gild's domain is not concerned with slavery. You could, in some terrible ways, strengthen the prosperity of civilization through evil. Which is fucked up. But concepts are weird. And sometimes they overlap, and sometimes they contradict. Fortunately, we're lucky enough to know firsthand that you don't need slavery to build prosperity and civilization. We don't have to choose between Civilization and Freedom.
And then, of course, there's that pesky question of thralldom and Civilization. Will abolition break our society? I've written about it before, and I'm not going to go on about it again. But I'll say this: you don't have to break bonds. You don't have to rip up agreements. You build new ones instead.
And that's all I'll say.
It was an interesting discussion, at the very least.
