The Mercier Tea Shop is open for business! Truthfully, it opened quietly about a week prior, but only the denizens of the Valardin ward and those who passed through were truly aware of it. The interior is warm and festive, with round tables clad in lacy tablecoths and a delicious selection of pastries and snacks resting on the tiers of the cake stand centerpieces (look 1-a round table draped in embroidered lace). A basket sits nearby the entrance, with a wooden sign asking the guests to "TAKE ONE": within appears to be several large muffins of various flavors, freshly baked within unique mulberry wrappers. Upon unwrapping them, the recipient finds a scrawled note written in elegant script. (look basket, take muffin from basket)

Silas sits at his own table, reserved for the Mercier family. A chest sits nearby and he appears to be shuffling through some notes. There's a contest in the works, perhaps?

Edain does not particuarlly make much of a fuss when he arrives. Dressed simply, in this typical grey shirt and pants, and his blue and white tabard, the Prince of Sanctum, makes his way into the Tea House, Curiously looking around to see how the Mercier's grand opening is progressing. The Prince of Sanctum steps to one side to mill along the side of the wall to try and let everyone have a chance to filter in and enjoy the confections first.

Of course.. some of those muffins look so soft and moist... Edain looks around to make sure he is going going to bump into anyone on his way there and he approaches the basket to fetch himself a muffin.

Edain gets a scrumptious carrot cake muffin with fortune wrapper from Guest Hospitiality Basket Honoring Gild.

Lazarus sits along his brother and says to him, "Well done. The party looks great." He stands up to help the servants and ensure everything is running like clockwork. A servent brings Lazarus his tea which he takes standing overlooking the happenings. At the arrival of Edain, Lazarus walks to him to greet him, "Your highness, what a pleasure to see you here. I hope everything is within your standards." Turning to the others that begin to arrive, Lazarus says, "Come and share in Gild's hospitality, the guest rite has commence. Feed your bellies with pastries and enjoy our selection of tea."

Bethany enters, after a lively and brisk-paced walk from home (or, elsewhere) in her new gown of lavender silk that has that distinct detailing of being Mistress Auror's work. She picks off a stray stand of dog hair, smiles, and drops a curtsy to the room. "Greetings to various and sundry."

Damon slips into the shop with some grace, giving a jerk on his sword hilt like he's pulling the handbreak on a coach so the tip doesn't get slammed in the door. Spotting those around him, he slowly makes his way in, browsing mostly, not quite ready to mingle before he does his due diligence and views the shop. The reason for this gathering in the first place.

Sophie gets a scrumptious cheese muffin with fortune wrapper from Guest Hospitiality Basket Honoring Gild.

Edain bows his head to Lazarus, "Everything is just fine Goodman Mercier." he looks around at the various furnishings and says, "I see that Sir Silas has done some of his best work as well." He says with smile. He turns then and bows to some of the other peole that have arrived. Politely acknowledging them, but making certain the host get to offer a proper greetings. Meanwhile he starts to unwrap his muffin, curious about the fortune within.

Silas sets his notes aside and looks up when people begin to filter in and take in the decor. He flashes a friendly smile to his siblings. "I may be cultivating a talent in interior decorating as part of my craft," he muses outloud. His attention goes to Edain, who somehow doesn't go for the maple bacon muffin! "I'm sure no one would have appreciated that morsel quite as much as you, Your Highness, but still a solid choice." To the others, he stands and bows. "The first new tea blend will be served shortly, after everyone is appropriately seated. We will be having a contest, as well."

Lazarus smiles following Edain's gaze to the furniture. He nods to the prince and says to him, "Yes but can you expect any less from Sir Silas? Works of art, every single time, brother." He raises his tea to his brother and chuckles at the exchange between Edain and Silas. He nods and smiles to his sister, approving of her dress. Then turns his attention to Damon who receives a polite nod but is not bothered and let to browse.

Juliana steps inside and takes a long look around. She gives a friendly glance to those here. When she notices the basket she takes a look inside and chooses one.

Bethany sneaks a muffin not-so-sneakily from the basket, not with the intention to snack on it, but to send it along for someone that will not be attending this evening. Offering a quirk of a smile to Silas, "You seem to have a talent for it, brother. I will need to have you have a shot with the Steward's niche, er, office."

Juliana gets a scrumptious cinnamon muffin with fortune wrapper from Guest Hospitiality Basket Honoring Gild.

Sophie has no need for the due diligence her cousin Damon employs. No. She's been a visitor since Day One. Brightly, she smiles at the Merciers. "How wonderful, yes?" And not just because she has a sweet cheese muffin to eventually munch on. "Cousin Edain," she beams, "should you wish to encourage Sir Silas' craft, I would not say no to such a lovely table."

A messenger arrives, delivering a message to Damon before departing.

A messenger arrives, delivering a message to Damon before departing.

Silas smiles to Sophie. "The table itself is rather simple! It's the tablecloth and food which make it what it is. I -can- get in touch with the skilled tailor and chefs who made it possible for you, however. This shop would not be possible if it weren't for House Valardin." Lisette arrives from the back room with a tray with two teapots and a pitch, presumably about to serve the guests their tea.

A messenger arrives, delivering a message to Damon before departing.

Edain chuckles, "Princess Sophie some of Sir Silas' best craft occupies our Audience Chamber." Edain says bowing his head briefly to his cousin. He turns his attention to Silas then and says, "I thought it would only be right to let someone have another chance at the deliciousness that is the Bacon Maple Muffin." Edain says to the industrious knight. He steps away and lets them greet others, making some greetings of his own, "Lord Damon, good to see you." and then to Hadrian and Eirine, "Duke Hadrian, Lady Eirene, I am glad you came to check out the opening."

Bethany settles, arranging her skirts neatly, as she listens to the nobles conversing with her brothers. Head dipped, smile small and slight.

With his exploring finished, Damon then turns to those in attendance, Sophie gets a smile and a wink, Edain gets a clasped arm and a slap on the shoulder, "Your grace. Always good to see you, my friend."

Oozing Southport style, the Duke Malvici enters with his aunt on his arm. They do stand out a bit among the Oathlanders, the tall dark haired woman with the slight scowl and the jovial duke with harlequin eyes.
Eirene nods to Edain and offers an uneasy smile. "Well, we could use some light refreshments eh?"

Silas drops a teapot of exquisite white tea blended with vanilla and coconut.

Hadrian has a big smile planted on his face, wrought with mischief and playfulness. "Hello!"

Rohm the Blackguard have been dismissed.

Sarvi have been dismissed.

Lazarus turns to the new arrivals and greets them. A polite nod and a smile to Juliana, Hadrian, and Eirene. He allows them the freedom to wander and enjoy themselves. Lazarus sets himself at the end of the store by the statue of Gild, watching the success of the party as he sips his tea.

Silas glances to Eirene and nods sagely. "These are great snacks in between meals." He gestures towards the muffins. "The fortune wrapper idea was Lisette's, though. Do give me feedback on how good her penmanship or sage advice is; not sure if I should continue them yet."

"Then continue to encourage him," Sophie gently nudges Edain, smiling, before telling Silas, "Thank you. That would be lovely." Damon gets a fond smile of his own before Hadrian draws her attention. Merrily, she greets, "Hello." Then, to Eirene, she saunters over to companionably loop arms, if permitted. "Come. Let us find something suitable for your palate, yes? And then perhaps you will do me the favor of proper introduction with His Grace?"

When the guests seat themselves, they are introduced to the first tea of the day: a delightful white blend with vanilla and coconut. Clearly not made with local produce! Likely from the Saffron Chain or Mourning Isles.

A messenger arrives, delivering a message to Lazarus before departing.

Edain nods to Eirine and says, "There is some fine teas to choose from here." he turns and motions to Lazaraus and says, "That is the man you n eed to speak to..." Edain says. As he steps away there is a herald in Valardin colors that comes running into the tea house waving for Edain. After listening to to him the Prince of Sanctum grows somber and turns to try and find Hadrian and Eirene again, "Duke Hadrian, Lady Eirene, I think you both need to hear this."

A messenger arrives, delivering a message to Damon before departing.

Bethany tilts her head, admiring the details of certain objects: the lace of the tablecloth, the delicate mulberry paper wrapping on the untouched muffin at hand. Until the herald appears, and she attempts to make out the sigils on his livery - blinking rapidly - and when Edain gestures for the Lady and Lord, her curiosity growns. Still, quiet. Remaining in her seat with a cup of tea.

Edain nods to Eirine and says, "There is some fine teas to choose from here." he turns and motions to Lazaraus and says, "That is the man you n eed to speak to..." Edain says.

Hadrian is a bit overwelmed by people, greetings, and the general size of the party somewhat large in relationship to what he's used to; he plays it off rather adeptly, however. The evidence lies in his smile, and laugh, as he greets aimlessly one person after another. He is by no means the most important present, but he is a duke that has been gone a long while.

A little boy from the street comes into the shop and quietly gets Lazarus' attention, who turns to listen to the boy. He sends the boy away with a silver. The Union guards move behind the boy who runs out into the city, and they set outside the door to gossip with laborers away from the party. As if watching a piece of art, Lazarus stands back from the party, watching the people mingle and enjoy their wares.

Eirene grins as she slips her arm through the Princess'. "Of course, highness. Duke Hadrian, meet Princess Sophie. She's a mercy and the one person I trust to stitch me up if I get stabbed." HIGH praise. "Lets grab a table and some muffins, eh?"

Eirene has joined the a round table draped in embroidered lace.

Sophie has joined the a round table draped in embroidered lace.

Damon quietly slips out of the tea shop. Hopefully no one notices!

The younger Mercier brother watches his brother for a long moment, having noticed the boy scamper in, but he then clears his throat and plucks a piece of parchment from the pile he's acquired. "The trivia contest will begin shortly. Winner receives this and the contents within it." He gestures to the chest nearby.

Bethany tilts her head, admiring the details of certain objects: the lace of the tablecloth, the delicate mulberry paper wrapping on the untouched muffin at hand. Observational mode: still engaged. Remaining in her seat with a cup of tea, noding politely as she takes mental notes on certain blends.

Silas drops a teapot of sweet rose tea with a chocolatey floral finish.

HIGH praise, indeed, and Sophie seems to know it, clearly honored to be held in such high esteem. Briefly, she leans closer to murmur something to Eirene before she amiably replies, "Well met, Duke Hadrian. Welcome to Arx, it has been some time, yes?" Unlinking arms, she takes a seat next to the Malvici medic.

Juliana watches some of the others with amusement. Still she keeps to herself for the moment as she takes a sip of her tea.

The next blend is served: a chocolatey confection with a sweeter finish than the other Mercier chocolate blend, clearly meant for more feminine tastes and indulgence. Silas, for his part, asks the first trivia question:

"Okay, first one: who are the most recognizable adherents of Gild?" He looks expectantly at the small crowd.

"Other than the Merciers?" quips Sophie with a smile. "I would say the Knights of Solace."

After a cautious look askance, Beth sets down her cup when Silas begins the trivia, and slips out of her seat. She reaches out -

Bethany gets a scrumptious strawberry muffin with fortune wrapper from Guest Hospitiality Basket Honoring Gild.

Eirene checked dexterity + legerdemain against difficulty 15, resulting in 21, 6 higher than the difficulty.

Eirene is very subtly spiking her own tea from a flask after sipping it just once.

Lazarus chuckles from the statue of Gild, "Your own brother is a disciple of Gild." And he moves towards the table with his siblings.

Lazarus has joined the a round table draped in embroidered lace.

Silas checked perception against difficulty 15, resulting in 7, 8 lower than the difficulty.

Hadrian inclines his head toward Sophie with a graceful smile, "It has, indeed, Princess, well met." He offers in kind.

One of the house Herald's come busting into the teahouse to speak with Edain. The Prince nods to them and quietly makes his way out, letting the Mercier's continue their successful opening.

Silas pauses, but doesn't look terribly surprised at the result. "Princess Sophie is correct. One point." He cants his head to his brother's retort. "Lets me humble, now." He's still grinning, though.

Eirene states, "I insisted the Duke come have tea. He needs to meet more pretty girls," she says with a wiggle of her eyebrows.

"My apologies, I assumed you were looking for something in specific." Lazarus says to Silas, quieting down.

"No need to apologize, brother," Silas retorts and glances back at his parchment. Next question: "Who is the author of 'On Arvum and its Peoples'?"

Silas drops a pitcher of green iced tea with mango and peach notes.

Lazarus smiles to his brother and nods. He watches Sophie for a moment and then the others seeing who gets it first.

Bethany opens her mouth, finger lifted, closes her mouth. Instead, she will start on her muffin. Until she peels away the paper to read the fortune, and she gives Lisette a very dry look. Eating her muffin in stormy silence.

Lisette smiles back at Bethany as she serves the iced mango tea. Knowingly.

Eirene has no idea. She shrugs casually and sips her "tea." A muffin is also inspected.

Eirene gets a scrumptious blueberry muffin with fortune wrapper from Guest Hospitiality Basket Honoring Gild.

"Scholar Tobias the Dubious." Sophie answers.

Lazarus smiles to Sophie, raising his tea before taking a sip.

Hadrian has joined the a round table draped in embroidered lace.

Bethany smiles brightly over at Sophie, toasting her with her glass, "My brother should just give the tea to you!"

Juliana looks very disinterested as the trivia starts. She finally turns her attention on the muffin and the fortune.

For those not yet aware, Princess Sophie has certain idiosyncrasies regarding food and drink. For starters, she always examines the color and presentation, and then she deeply inhales the aromas, clearing delighting in such were to judge by the blissful, closed eye expression. (Might could be she is also silently giving thanks to Petrichor while checking for possible poisons.) When she sips, a soft sounds of appreciation parts from her. Every so often, she quietly converses with Eirene, and she offers Hadrian a welcoming smile. Mostly, she sips her tea and dominates the competition.

Silas murmurs something aside to his siblings before flashing Sophie another smile. "Quite right." He peers at the others presumably competing. "Lets move onto something more... familiar?" Silas scans his list. "Which noble house holds the Barony of Caith?"

"House Gilden." Get it, guys? GILDen. Sophie is one a roll.

Silas hums and follows right up with another: "Which noble house has the motto "Heart and words form bonds"?

Hadrian searches the table for the wine, subtly, his harlequin gaze mirroring a turn at the corners of his lips that reflect a grin.

Eirene is enjoying a muffin. No rolls for her. She turns to Hadrian and shrugs, "We're really not cut out for this. Are we nephew? Sorry I hauled your ass out."

Sophie checked intellect + diplomacy against difficulty 15, resulting in 16, 1 higher than the difficulty.

Bethany is chewing, currently. More in an effort to actively keep from answering.

Hadrian shrugs a shoulder at Eirene, "It is always nice to meet people-" he hasn't been paying attention to Silas' game, moreso just watching everyone's behavior. Everything about the young, slim duke seems calculated and rehearsed.

Lazarus sips on his tea watching the game take place. He glances over to Hadrian and Eirene to whom he bows his head politely. Lazarus turns to his bethany and whispers to her.

His gaze drifts to Bethany when it appears Sophie may be stumped for once. Hadrian, Eirene, and Juliana were also given hopeful glances: this was their opportunity! But alas...

Silas also adds: "Feel free to answer, dear sister."

Bethany checked intellect + diplomacy against difficulty 15, resulting in 31, 16 higher than the difficulty.

Juliana checked intellect + diplomacy against difficulty 15, resulting in 19, 4 higher than the difficulty.

Eirene checked intellect + diplomacy against difficulty 15, resulting in 15, 0 higher than the difficulty.

Hadrian checked intellect + diplomacy against difficulty 15, resulting in 29, 14 higher than the difficulty.

What Hadrian may notice, then, is that despite her jovially serene demeanor, Princess Sophie is In It To Win It. And by It, that is ALL THE TEA. Clearly scouring her memory for the answer, the truth is that she is no diplomat, so it's not as though she committed all those mottos to memory.

Eirene gives no f's as usual, enjoying a tasty blueberry muffin.

Murmurs confidently into her glass, then, Beth adds in a little more volume: "Arisona."

Juliana just can't seem to recall the answer so instead she take another sip of tea.

"Correct!" Silas enthuses. "It's now Princess Sophie three points, Bethany one. Unless I missed something." Completely possible.

Next question: "Which year did the "Age of Queens" begin?"

@check intellect + war or stewardship at 15. Unless your character knows it offhand. :P

The unfamiliar name draws Sophie's blue eyed attention to Bethany. "Arisona?" The Mercy's expression grows pensive. "500," she then knows for the next.

Eirene checked intellect + war against difficulty 15, resulting in 25, 10 higher than the difficulty.

Eirene actually knows this one. But she doesn't blurt it out, just remarks it under her breath to the Duke and Princess.

Bethany checked intellect + stewardship against difficulty 15, resulting in 46, 31 higher than the difficulty.

Hadrian checked intellect + war against difficulty 15, resulting in 27, 12 higher than the difficulty.

Bethany sips. She might have known the answer, but, she knows that the Princess is aiming to win that tea. And, she knows full well that the Princess will get that tea. Sip!

"Aaand it's now four points for Princess Sophie. She's a terror when it comes to knowledge, evidently!" Perhaps Bethany and Sophie can geek out over tea and tomes. "I can tell some of you knew the answer, but you need to be quick! Lets delve into recent events, shall we?"

Silas clears his throat again and poses another question: "Which drink took the prize at the Aspirations of Alcohol contest?"

@check intellect + skill of your choice you feel is most appropriate for recent pop culture stuff at 15.

Hadrian checked intellect + propaganda against difficulty 15, resulting in 17, 2 higher than the difficulty.

Eirene sits up in her chair. "Wait, what?! When was this?!" A boozer Eirene missed out on?!

Hadrian folds his hands on the table near his glass, laughing in delight with Sophie's prowess.

Thoughtfully, "It wasn't us, was it?" Beth taps a forefinger against her chin, "I thought that we had placed."

"It wasn't Blackram, and it wasn't us," Silas answers.

"I know it wasn't Blackram," Sophie gently laughs, as though she heard all about it from certain vassals. "It was Grayson, but I cannot recall what..."

Hadrian says, "Riverstreet Brandy."

Silas points excitedly when someone else finally chimes in. "His Grace is correct! Riverstreet Brandy, House Grayson's entry from a brewery in Ashford." He was the one who hit it up, but it wasn't -technically- a Mercier drink. Lazarus may be displeased if he ever caught wind! "Next question, also from recent times: Who attained the most trophies at the most recent Decathlon?"

Hadrian checked intellect + propaganda against difficulty 15, resulting in 27, 12 higher than the difficulty.

Eirene just drinks her tea and enjoys her muffin. She was in Southport then, having just started prep to go to Arx.

Plot thickens... Lazarus raises a brow, "Riverstreet Brandy?" He says but does not hang on to it quickly turning to listen to the next question.

beth shrugs, as this is information that she could not care less about, finishing up her muffin in contented silence.

Sophie checked intellect + medicine against difficulty 15, resulting in 26, 11 higher than the difficulty.

Hadrian says, "Lord Victus Thrax."

Eirene has left the a round table draped in embroidered lace.

Companionably reaches out to Eirene and tries to soothe. "In the summer, well before your arrival." Oh, but then Hadrian is trying to snake the tea from underneath the Princess, and she eyes him a moment, before she lets out a merry laugh. "You best be gracious enough to gift the prize to me, Your Grace, should you win."

*NOT your Grace. >.>

"Right again. Last two questions. Duke Hadrian is capable of tying the princess if he plays his cards right." Silas slurps some of the iced mango tea now. "Who was the last fighter standing during the They Shall Rise: Grand Melee contest? I promise we'll go back to scholarly things soon."

Bethany laughs, gesturing with the mulberry paper wrapper, "This contest just became more interesting -"

"Prince Luca Velenosa." Sophie's not done yet. There were injuries that day. She remembers.

Hadrian chuckles wryly, and waves a hand, "The princess is merely allowing me to give her a bit more excitement."

Juliana takes one last sip of tea and looks to Hadrian and Sophie. "Good luck to you both." She then stands to make her way out.

Silas smiles when Sophie guesses correctly. It pays to be a healer, sometimes. "Correct. Princess Sophie wins the prize. I will ask the last question for posterity's sake: "What is the name of the Mad Mage?" (@check intellect + war or stewardship at 15 if we need it!)

That's a curious question. "Skald." Sophie even sounds a bit surprised when she answers.

Bethany checked intellect + stewardship against difficulty 15, resulting in 64, 49 higher than the difficulty.

Bethany knows that Sofie is faster, and, she brightens up with applause. "Well done, your Highness!"

Silas picks up the chest and begins to tweak the lock. "Well done, Your Highness. Better luck next time, Duke Malvici; you've been paying attention!" Tweaking done, he peers back at Sophie. "Should I have some of our servants deliver this to your residence?" He doesn't expect a princess to carry a chest around the district!

Silas picks up a unique oak chest with contrasting two-tone design.

Hadrian taps his temple as he looks toward Silas, "Always, friend."

Lazarus picks up Guest Hospitiality Basket Honoring Gild.

At the applause, Sophie blinks. She was so into the contest that it appears she didn't realize she won until just now. Lightly, she laughs, and bright and shining sound. "Thank you. And, yes, please," about the delivery, "but, first, I would ask Duke Hardian to pick a prize from my winnings." A gracious winner is she.

Silas drops a unique oak chest with contrasting two-tone design.

Lazarus gets a scrumptious grape muffin with fortune wrapper from Guest Hospitiality Basket Honoring Gild.

Hadrian lofts his eyebrows, "Oh?"

Lazarus puts a scrumptious peach muffin with fortune wrapper in Guest Hospitiality Basket Honoring Gild.

Lazarus puts a scrumptious grape muffin with fortune wrapper in Guest Hospitiality Basket Honoring Gild.

Silas nods to Sophie. "A gracious winner. Though you may find the contents a little... unique." It's tea, flowers, and a painting. But the chest requires opening first! "Additionally, feel free to help yourself to a muffin, Lord Hadrian. We have leftovers."

Lazarus gets a scrumptious apple muffin with fortune wrapper from Guest Hospitiality Basket Honoring Gild.

Lazarus drops Guest Hospitiality Basket Honoring Gild.

Amiably, Sophie smiles to the Malvici. "Of course." As if it couldn't be any other way. "I fear the others would've been terribly bored without your rising to the challenge."

a unique oak chest with contrasting two-tone design is now unlocked.

Lazarus chuckles and claps, handing muffings to everyone.

Hadrian says, "Oh, I couldn't! But if you insist, I would be rude to refuse."

Hadrian gets Lycene Morning from a unique oak chest with contrasting two-tone design.

Hadrian puts Lycene Morning in a unique oak chest with contrasting two-tone design.

Hadrian gets an exquisite bouquet of peach roses and lush greens from a unique oak chest with contrasting two-tone design.

While Hadrian ponders what to choose, Sophie stage whispers, "Be sure to also pick something for your aunt." And then, as if having said nothing at all, she sips more tea.

Hadrian grins and winks as he pulls the bouquet from it. "It appears she's retired for the night, so, I should follow her example."

As Hadrian moves to pick his prize, Silas claps his hands enthusiastically. "And thus concludes our tea party. Stewardship of the tea shop will be handed over to Bethany soon, and she will be introducing the wonderful concoctions she has been making. The rest of the muffins will be available as free treats to whomever wants them. Thank you all for attending; we're nothing without you." He smirks. "I will be contacting my associates to get you a table similar to the ones here, princess. They will be delighted."

Lazarus gets a teapot of earthy gold tea with exhilarating tangy flavors from Lazarus's bulk box of teas.

Hadrian bows, "Well, until next time, many thanks for having me."

Juliet gets a scrumptious banana nut muffin with fortune wrapper from Guest Hospitiality Basket Honoring Gild.

"Please send her my regards, milord, and thank you for a rousing evening," Sophie respectfully inclines her head to Hadrian. "Until next me meet, may the Gods bless and keep you." Then, mirthfully, she tells Silas, "Thank you, good Sir, all of you," extended to Bethany and Lazarus, "And be sure to send the bill to my Highlord cousin." Mirth in her eyes for the last.
