Once there was a man...
with eyes as red as his wine, and just as drunk.
The man boasted of his glorious past, when he was a knight, a kingsman.
The man had bested dragons and vanquished traitors.
It all came to an end when his king died, he had angered too many people to work again.
And the bottle it was for him, the loyal bottle.
He would recount his story for all those who would listen,
and attack and slay all those who would discredit him.
"Memory can't be drowned", said the bottle.

Once, there was a man...
who wanted to be stronger than anyone else.
But he couldn't change, and he had not the world,
And his strength was not enough.
So he pulled a veil of darkness around himself,
And he let it cover everything.
No one could see but the man, for it was his veil.
"True strength lies in others' weakness," he laughed.

Once, there was a maiden...
who was always looking forward to the way things would be.
She said, "Someday, I'm getting out of this place."
"Someday, I'm going to kill that boy that put me here."
"And while I wait, I don't much mind,
'cause it's better to dream tomorrow than to be there."

"I'm holding at bay," she said, "what I know to be true."
"That I'll never get out. I won't let my dreams die!"
"I'll hang on to hope," she said, "until Time itself ends. But--"
"There's always an ending," said Time.

Once, there was a maiden...
who struck an iron wall until it shattered her hand.
She did not stop, though cracks spread through her bones.
She did not stop, though blood sprayed her eyes.
She did not stop until she shattered the wall.
"Survival is fury," she said.

Yesterday evening, in the Shrine of the Thirteenth, I was overcome with emotion, listening to a fellow worshiper and new acquaintance, that I can safely call just a little closer to friend. I hadn't expected it, this new mystery friend of mine, but then when does anyone expect friendships to bloom?

If it's often for you, then you should write a book on your techniques because I admit I'm not swayed into friendships so quickly. Those I hold dear are fiercely protected.

We had a lovely party at Farshaw House - it was good to have all my family together, even the curmudgeonly ones. I may have eaten a few too many raspberries though as it seems to have upset my equilibrium.

Perhaps it is that we simply have different definitions of butchery. Be that as it may, my point is simply this:

You seem deeply conflicted. You proclaim loudly to have certain morals, yet your actions and voluntary associations paint a different story. You are so quick to decry and denounce the Compact that you claim to be a citizen of, saying that you seek to make us a better people. What would you have us do then, Prima Shard of Nefer'khat? What is your suggestion as to how to deal with the Abandoned who refuse our laws and squat on our lands? Would you have us turn away from flagrant law-breaking? Should we attempt to round them up and ship them elsewhere? What is the solution that you deem more appropriate? I am not asking this to be argumentative, but in a sincere attempt to understand your point of view. And maybe a little bit to be argumentative. I admit it. I like debate.

But in all sincerity, I *do* want to know what your suggestions are. What do you propose we are to do in order to maintain the laws of the land?

"Idleness will be the decay of our people, the downfall of our lineage." -Prince Calvino Velenosa

Typically one wouldn't assume this was said by a Lycene based on some common stereotypes of my people. However my father was sure to deeply instill this mantra within me from the day I began to understand language. It is both a positive and negative influence within my life. This previous winter when I had taken ill it took a great deal of coaxing and in some cases poignant discussions about my health to keep me withdrawn to my rooms because of this core value. Conversely, I have accomplished many things due to its guidance.

I find difficulty in sitting idle in any capacity. Activities that others embrace as enjoyable and relaxing I find tedious. That is no insult to those who disagree with me. We all have different opinions and preferences of various types. I can appreciate an afternoon discussing the mundane, but personally that is not something I find particularly enjoyable. However if someone approaches me with a great passion about a topic I would perceive as mundane, I /do/ enjoy hearing that passion even if the topic itself may not fall within the lines of my interests.

I have been asked a few times why I departed from a party rather abruptly yesterday before its end. Aside from the conversation I participated in dwindling, the above would be why and I answer within the Whites to make a public statement before rumors can corrupt reality.

I was not offended. I hold no ill will. I am not angry. I simply did not feel I could remain without becoming a dark cloud on a lovely, sunny, summer day.

I stopped to think today and realized that I’m over halfway through my thirties.

No matter how many times I’ve asked, time hasn’t granted my request to slow down. Hmph.

Maybe the next time I stop for a think I’ll be drinking the well earned wine of retirement. It’s fun to dream, sometimes.

Someone pointed out a while back that these are the records we leave for posterity. Honestly that is one of the largest reasons I am unafraid to look a bit touched in the head to the portion of the uninitiated who, on reading, would think me mad. For the ones who know just enough that some revelation can be genuinely helpful.

When seeking the path of the Initiate, there are so many secrets and stories, and fragments that it can make your head spin. That it can leave you wondering if you will ever know enough of this or that thing to feel like you have genuinely mastered or even truly /grasped/ it.

Silence has stolen so much from us. Both literally and figuratively. If I have to look like I have a few crazypants ideas to help others find the first steps on the path to the removal of the veil? It is a worthwhile price, and few artists are appreciated properly within their lifetime anyhow.

In your journal you write of the foreign emissaries from Cardia and the Undying Empire. I have also wondered why they have no embassies here. Cardia does not seem to recognize us as a kingdom as yet. Lord Marcus Sulla explained his role as military praetor as an office of a military governor that is set over a region that is not yet under their control. That is the language he used - yet. They seem to acknowledge that other kingdoms exist. They refer to a Prima of a kingdom in Nefer'khat as majesty yet call our King governor. As to their power, It is beyond my comprehension when I consider the history of the Suthryn Reaches as mentioned in the timeline written by Scholar Tobias the Dubious. We have our own histories - the Isle of Blackshore or Saikland Greens being ones mentioned at that talk.

I do not know if establishing embassies is something we'd want - what would follow from a formal relationship? And If we even want embassies perhaps they would need to agree to establish an embassy at the same time as the Undying Empire, given their detente here in our waters. One thinks that would require a work of legendary diplomacy.

Matters are delicate. I do not know what maintains this balance. I pray that our King and his diplomats continue to have wisdom.

At the 'Questions on Cardia' talk there was mention of a prophecy about the skykingdom. I know little about prophecies, and I am making slow but steady progress to lose my ignorance. I have not read many prophecies, and an elderly scholar in the archives who has told me about how vague and allegorical they tend to be. There's no plain language explaining on which date something will happen, or what exactly will happen.

It was also said at the talk that prophecies can be avoided because of the First Choice. It sounds challenging, does it not? How would someone know what to choose when faced with symbolism and poetry?

I think the gem merchant either is in love with me, or this is a false stone despite that the song it sings tells me that it's not.

Regardless, it is a good morning in the market and whats in my velvet bags, well. Jayus be praised, a certain Velenosan will be happy.

That the Compact holds one Abandoned people the same as the next, oftener than not, ain't escaped the knowing of raiders, neither.

That a clever bastard could ride home with spoils while the Compact took their vengeance on whatever tribe was closest. Take all they could carry and let their enemies suffer for it.

A monumentous amount of paperwork.

I sometimes wonder how in the gods names she managed it. Because there is quite a bit of it. Thank siad gods for Lora who brought Wendy and WEndy provided entertainment while we sorted through the names and the like.

Then a visit from Fortunato gave much needed respite from the paperwork. I do hope that the foul mouth things will be of use to him. Perhaps that theory is right and it's less that they are unhappy but that they just don't want to work with me? Time will tell. But if the bracelets spew explenatives even after they have been made or there is a very angry piece of metal, well. We'll know.

I am still reminded of that singular angry riotous ruby that I turned into an earring.

You knew, you very well knew what would happen Joscelin. Now I have a bench in my shop with nothing but paperwork.
