What an unfortunate turn of events at an otherwise decent gathering of family and vassals.

I am quite proud of Lady Joslyn for her prowess in the Melee, her courage and ability were on fine display. What more can one ask of family? Her place in mine was well earned, let it be recorded here!

What a sight to see Princess Tikva charge in with her hands full of instrument instead of steel, rushing to aid! Her pluck and courage prove she has the fighter's spirit as well, and what a voice!

It would be the most impressive memory of the whole startling affair if I had not seen Prince Laric mount a table, only to ignite his clothing on some candelabra or chandelier! The poor man! Chased from the pot to the fire quite literally!

I ruined a good coat putting him out, but what is one coat in such an affair?

Thank goodness none of the Grayson library was lost, though sadly somewhere a family mourns the loss of their kin who fell defending the king. Mourn not too much! He fell doing honor to the gods and the compact, and will surely be rewarded!

On another matter, speaking of new beginnings, I must say that it warms my heart to see so many coming to the aide of Cedar Vale in it's time of need. Every humble and reserved, it was not easy for me to ask for help but the way the peerage has lined up to assist is perhaps the most humbling thing I have witnessed. Theses people are truly setting an example of virtue to us all, and we will be every grateful.

I've seen that Carita Whisper ((struck through and noted above "Sorry, Darkwater)) will be marrying Baron Edward Stormbreak due to her announcement of such. I've heard talk that she'll be marrying down, but that is nonsense. She's of and from the lower boroughs of course, and was allowed to maintain her ennoblement even after she left her husband Baltus Darkwater, so to become a Baroness is certainly not a lesser station than the nothing from whence she came

Fortunate for her that the Darkwaters kept her as a lady, as marrying up from being a commoner is fortunate enough to be done once. Twice would have been a task of note indeed. I wonder what becomes of the daughter? Does she stay a Darkwater with Baltus, her father, or go with her mother to Stormbreak.

It will be interesting to see what happens as well, when the Queen takes Edward and Carita as she will take us all, to see if Carita's first born will inherit or if they will be passed over in favor of some new Stormbreak heir. It is an interesting question on the nature of our peerage, what happens when there is a divorce with children between a noble and a commoner. At every turn the events are so rare that I don't know of a fresh example of such a series of events. I'll have to look into it more, it is all so fascinatingly curious.

I am of course thrilled that I was able to lead the Grayson Crew Team to victory in the compact race that was run this week. Honor should not come to me before it it given to the strong rowers, Barric, Esoka, and Thesarin, as they pulled hard and true to carry us forward. I've always been something of a reserved man, and while I long for me sweet wife to resume her social duties for the house, I'll admit to a growing fondness for these competitions. Perhaps I'll organize something for my fellow academics?

Relationship Note on Alaric

Would but all the Compact have half this man's spirit and a tenth his humor.

I was forced due to my wife's pregnancy to represent Stonewood at a Social Gathering, which is hardly fair. Will she address the accounts in my absence? Still, it was a fine event hosted by Telmar and Greenmarch, and I do not regret attending. Spring is a fine thing and worth celebrating. I even did me duty to represent the men in a game of pig bladders against the women. We were quite handily trounced, but I will take it as something that I was the last man eliminated. What that something is, I do not know.

This has turned out to be a surprisingly disappointing few days. Perhaps an improvement in the weather and the birth of my first born will brighten my mood? One must hope it be so.

I told myself, committed to myself and to my House, that when I came to Arx following The Siege, that I would do so to empower my family. Since then my sister has grown into the sort that songs will be written about, and if she keeps it up maybe even an entire opera. My Brother has secured his place as Count by turning back the tide of invasion, proving once again that none shall get to Bisland except through us. We've done so well that I'm able to step away from managing the affairs of Stonewood as closely as I am used to that I might assist the Great House Thrax in their recoveries following the recent troubles at Maelstrom. I knew I'd be helping my people, but there's something very rewarding about being in a position to help others as well.

Relationship Note on Gailin

Returned to Arx after the victorious liberation of Cedar Vale. There is much rebuilding to be done, but soon I will make his new position official. Until then, celebrations for his triumphant return.

Made time to attend another one of Princess Valencia's events. Her patience and diplomacy is an inspiration. I would, and do, recommend her establishment with great vigor.

We pray to all the gods that they might protect our brave warriors fighting at Maelstrom. May they their blows be swift, hard, and unreturned!

it is nice to feel some sense of normalcy with the increase in work required to tend to the March, but wouldn't it be nice to have a little more balance? It's like all the problems of the last year put on hold by the silence have come due at once!

There's a sporting event to be held for all of our physically inclined brethren. I wonder what one must do to be recognized and celebrated for the more cerebral aptitudes?

Gailin's back at Stonehearth training, and Arianna continues to travel for business. We've just remodeled our old home in Arx and now it feels so empty. Still, my wife carries my heir and soon it will be full again I suppose.

My wife loves all things colorful, and that includes butterflies. We have them in Stonewood of course, but do I know enough to assist in designing a habitat for them? Give me a trade deal to negotiate or a squabble to sort out, and take these butterflies!

If she's not with child yet, it's certainly not for lack of trying. I suspect my first heir will be a pleasant addition by spring, however.

The amount of whining between the peerage is astonishing in Arx. Was I really so isolated at Stonehearth? When will they put the nobility back in being Noble? I suppose the Godsworn can be forgiven of course, that is a different path, but the diplomat?

One of the first people I did business with in Arx, and of course handler of some of the most important business. We mourn his presumed passing and entrust him to the gods' care taking.

Count Darkwater and many more appear to have passed in a terrible Tragedy. It is a shame, but at least it happened far from the mainland. Such a tragedy in a more populated area would be unimaginable. My new wife is nearly inconsolable, but like a good partner I am there for her.
