Baroness Ysabel Gilden
Once in a while the weak and weary wash away in windsome wailing.
Description: Slender, with the grace inherent in nobility, Ysabel personifies the scholarly tropes. Often starting the day with immaculate hair, her habit of toying with it when deep in a book, or puzzling out a riddle often means by the end of the day, it is a frazzled mess. Her bright blue eyes hold more life and intelligence than any one has the right to. She moves with purpose, often animated as she speaks with wild gestures and eager enthusiasm, wearing her heart and thoughts on her sleeve more often than not. Her smile lights the world for days at a single moment, and she can often be found with a laugh upon her lips as she discovers something delightful.
Personality: Bright and curious, Ysabel holds a vivacious tenacity to discover things -- how people work, how the think, what sort of customs do they have in the North about this and that. How do ships work? Both inclined to practical things and fantastical stories, Ysabel knows that stones have to be turned and moved in order to understand the bigger picture. Occasionally this makes her ramble on about this or that, but she is wise enough to know to find the people that accept that sort of thing, rather than force herself on the disinclined for intellectual pursuits. Despite her compulsions to learn, she understand, perhaps better than most, that patience often leads to the greatest discoveries. She does not see knowledge as something to be gained to simply have, but to fit the pieces into a larger picture, to reveal to the world what beauty and rapture it contains.
Background: Some people are born to great feats of martial pursuits, others to inspired diplomacy and etiquette. Then there are those like Ysabel who simply see the world as one big library. Rarely seen without a book in hand, from the time she was very young, Ysebel could not bear to not try to take apart any situation, any object, simply to learn how it works. Nothing sates her curiosity in full, because there's always more questions, always more to understand. The world wouldn't be so vast, after all, if it wasn't filled with secrets and meant to be understood. Her place as the youngest sibling of a Barony like Caith meant she had more than enough free time to find herself holed up somewhere with a book, or climbing into some cave just to see what was in there.
Once, on a trip to Lenosia, Ysabel found herself without any particular duties or need to be noticed, so she made her way into a vast library. She expected no one else to be there, but the youngest Velenosa princess, Isolde, was there, hiding away, reading. The two found each other companionable, usually quietly reading, occasionally engaging in lively debates throughout her trip. That night was the Mirror's Masquerade, and... something happened. Ysabel watched as her new friend danced, and for some reason, knew she had to figure out what just was going on.She knew there was more in the world happening than what she could find in her books. After Alessandra disappeared, and stories of contact with the Nox'alfar reached Caith, Ysabel knew that Arx was her destiny, hoping to help the family there, and reconnect with the Velenosa family to begin the work she knows needs to be done, hoping a position as a lady in waiting will afford her the opportunity to continue her quest for discovery.
