Relationship Note on Alarissa

Gods, Da, I almost used all three of those dreaded words in a missive. It's a proud day. Cause while I might've used one or two - I didn't use all of them - and the honor was still granted to us Shepherds. After Delilah and spoke about it, I asked the Princess-Consort of Maelstrom, the Pearl of Thrax herself - Princess Alarissa Thrax - to be salt parent to Altair. She accepted, and that kid's going to be all the better for it, I know.

Do you know what's been fun scholar? Helping other people gather information to further their stories. Their wants. Keeps my busy. And those that know me really well, know.. I need to stay busy at all times!

(scribed by a Scholar)

For those who have been, we'll say 'visited' by my companion, Earl Peckworthy, and find items of yours missing or mangled, do let me know so I may make recompense. For those of you who have taught him language more colorful than his plumage on these forays, I suppose that is recompense enough. I am a man of the Lyceum, but even so, some of you are quite inventive. I hope it is a phase.

I seem to have become, to my own surprise, the owner of a bird. I haven't much notion of how to train it, or him, I suppose, but I do hope that he will sing beautiful music and we will become terrific at duets in time.

I will have to ponder a suitable name.

It is strange to fret about people before war with whom I have a closer connection. I adore it that I should care so much and hate it for the worry it brings to heart.

I think I must set mind to other things for even here there is much to do to see our people through. Spirits to rise, resolve cemented and support to build, we must all help in our way to prepare for anything that may come.

Relationship Note on Preston

I've spent the last several days picking Carnifex Preston's brain on the finer points of the Faith and theology in general. Let me tell you, it was quite the educational experience. I took a lot of notes. So many notes that I'm still reading them! Again and again!

I have come to the conclusion that the reason I prefer the cooler months of autumn and winter is because I can quite reasonably closet myself away in either the Great Archive or one of the many private libraries in the city. There is nothing wrong in closing the door on the world and losing oneself to the pleasure of turning the page of an unread book. There's an excitement in the finding of an author that speaks to your mind and I, for one, will relish the longer and darker evenings when fires will once more be lit and I can comfortably revert to form.

I wonder how my life had been had I been born into a life of servitude. Would it be much simpler...or that much harder?

Relationship Note on Medeia

Ah, Lady Medeia does the Marquis and I such a kindness, scholar.

Though, we are such exemplars of Lycene charm by the providence of the company we keep, the beauty untold in our midst, and the honor it is to be of the Lyceum.

Suffice to say, trust that Marquis Tessere and I shall be champions of this charm if there continues to be a haunt where we may do so!

I can never get enough of a Lady Eswynd-approved soiree.

Relationship Note on Dio

The man, the myth, the legend; On paper he caught my attention but in the flesh nearly stole my breath away. Praise pours from his lips like the flowing wine from a decanter and offers the same heady and dizzying effect that such libations produce.

It was a pleasure to finally make his acquaintance and to only be further enchanted by the man they refer to as a legendary pirate. Certainly I escaped unscathed this time.

I crafted an endless number of theories for my past, each version with the same outcome: I was missed by my family, whoever and wherever they were. As it turns out, the one constant I believed true was the only thing that wasn't. My parents and my sole sibling are deceased. There are no reunions to be had, no loose ends to be tied up. It is time to simply put it all behind me and move forward.

Whatever else I may feel for this revelation, Scholar, self-pity is not among them. The things that I discovered about my parents post mortem informed me that they do not deserve to be longed after nor missed, so quick as they were to betray their own children. Further still, there are so many others, those who risked life and limb to assist me in my hunt for the truth, selflessly and fearlessly, that have more than made up for the loss of those wretched few. To the members of House Blackshore, and one very brave, trusted gentleman sworn to said house, I humbly thank you for your assistance and patience on that most toilsome journey; for trusting me as I guided you to places unknown, even to me. I will spend the rest of my life reinvesting all I've gained as a result of this discovery back into your lives, for as long as it is in my power to do so.

To my brother, lost at sea: rest easy. We'll find each other again someday.

I am excited for my future rum contest and eager to receive more rums for judging. I wonder which ones might win, what amazing things will be made with the vouchers that are the prizes. And I am already thinking up future contests as well. One for mead I will hold at the Golden Hart. Then I wish to host another at a new location for ales and wines to compete, not against one another, in two seperate categories upon that night. And then Another new location for light and dark liquors, also into two seperate categories. I think such parties can be quite the amount of fun and bring just how creative all the lovely people of Arx are. Such creation brings my heart joy.

Relationship Note on Clarisse

I could not do this without my dearest sister. She is a blessing to my family, and to my house. She works so hard for so many people in this city already, healer, kind-hearted and steadfast friend, and best sister in this city. I hope the world knows how much, she is willing to do for those she enjoys the company of.

So much to do lately to get ready. But she is helping me, it is helping us navigate our way. A small test before the war as a house is coming. Showing our power, as one now so later we can shine.

Every time I behold a flight of stairs, I have a thought for the architect. And whether they'd still like it if one were to bring a hammer upon their kneecaps and made them climb up and down their bloody stairs.

I recently had the joy of returning to Saikland Greens for the first time since I came to the city nearly a year ago, and while it is no longer my home since marriage, a piece of my heart will always belong there. The only thing more exciting than that in itself was being able to share the experience with my husband and my marquessa, and some two dozen others as I hosted the Midsummer Mirrorball at the Grand Mirrored Ballroom of the Thirteenth - a cherished and underutilized location. I was sad that I didn't get to see Neilda while I was there, though. She was out with the Saikland ships doing some training exercises the whole time. I'm sure we will see each other, soon.

Of note at the ball: Princess Sorrel danced with Baroness Ember in a display so spectacular one could be forgiven for thinking they were celestial beings orbiting one another in time to the music. And Ember certainly wore something. I think. It may well have been paint, actually. Duchess Calista was radiant. Count Duarte seems to always have a party follow him. Marquis Gaspar and Lord Yuri were exemplars of Lycene charm, as always. And, I was delighted by how many new people I got to meet. A Harlequin! Lady Jennyva of House Shepherd, whom I look forward to getting to know more. And Admiral Scylla, an exceptional woman.

Soft,
gentle,
shifting through the air.

Peaceful as the night, still and sweet
Stirring thoughts, incomplete...
a gentle smile, a longing touch
Piercing eyes, A gentle heart
Sweeping still throughout.

Thoughts swirling like the sea,
Ebb and flowing turbulently

Midnight oil
burning bright
bringing forth a
guiding light

shifting
folding
tide it pulls
the thoughts from
my longing soul
