In the midst of rampant chaos that is by turns unsettling and discouraging, it is most welcome to witness a chaos as unbridled and fierce and thrilling in the First Annual Raconteur's cup.

My hat is off to Princess Berenice Velenosa and Messere Venturo Thayne for a well-struck course and fine event. To all the sponsors, particularly Velenosa, for the prizes and anticipation in the lead up to the event. To the riders and their mounts. To the promoters who talked the riders up, including one Juniper Whisper, who undertook to talk up the talents and skill of the race's victor, none other than the Lady Fianna Crovane and her splendid Phantom. Though of a performance like theirs, little more can be said than... wow.

My hat is, quite literally, off. Does anyone know where I might find some fine bronze-colored leather?

Relationship Note on Kenna

I cannot say that it gets easier, or that it will ever feel like it will, because it doesn't, and it won't. Once you see the scope and breadth of treason that is in the world, it is hard to ever really trust people again.

But what will start happening is that you will begin to look at those around you with a more critical eye. You will learn who is doing what, and why, and maybe even who you can trust with what. You will form deep, deep bonds with those who truly become worthy of them - and I think there is a reward in that in and of itself.

Push forward. Always.

It is, perhaps, better to have risked and lost than to never have even tried and left to wonder. I hope I have the courage to take the risks, when they seem necessary, in the plans I hope to achieve.

Some people are woefully short-sighted.

Five years ago, we had fighting in the streets when Everard Telmar and his conspirators were being arrested.

Four years ago, we were besieged.

Almost two years ago, we fought at Stormwall and Setarco.

Months ago, we protected the Lodge.

In each, the Compact lost people, in some, a great many people, trying to hold strong against external forces and conspiracies.

In dealing with these conspirators masquerading as scholars, only two lives were lost among those protecting the Compact.

And those conspirators were responsible for the death of tens of thousands, across generations. They were responsible, at least in part, for the death of Copper. While the weight of those deaths will never leave those who brought them, they also saved lives, and help removed a threat looking to take advantage of our other troubles.

And this, too, shall pass.

However hard the moment feels, it will blow away on the wind or be extinguished as smoke. The stifling heat surrenders to the cooling balm of the evening, the snowstorms of a seemingly endless winter becoming the balmy sunshine of spring. The greatest passions, hot or cold, can be tempered.

Moderation has never been purely in fashion, especially with more ostentatious designs ever more eye-catchy and exciting. O! It's not a time to be temperate, restrained even. Look to the longer perspective, however, and it becomes clear things ebb and flow. They always have.

The contest was over and began to settle. I had a conversation with the charming Princess Valencia the host while we drank to my victory. I met Duke Vercyn and Berto. And while Ajax and Reese were over by the other side, we, all talked about something dark, War. Nothing else happened. A few speeches about our insights in war then it all settled.

YEAHHHH!!!!!! What a day, I swear never did I realize that I would win. While waiting for the Sip and Spar in the Golden Hart, I dueled with Ajax, a couple of times, as he gives me some pointers in fighting. I did lose the first few times. But, now, Ajax taught me a great deal about dueling and fighting. Now, I can handle myself quite well. Well, the event started and it went with a Archery Contest and so, being me, I joined it to test myself against others people of the Compact. My competitors were Carmen and Violet. They were very good archers, I say, rivaling even my skill in archery. In the end, and to my surprise, I won! But by a hair, Violet was in for a close 2nd and Carmen was 3rd. After that I sent out a challenge to spar, to test my skills in fighting. Surprisingly, it was the Prince Jasher, I met and talked to a few times before that stepped up to my challenge. Then, I did beat him easily actually and whoever betted against me that fight would've a bad day cause I heard he placed quite a sum of money on the Prince. I took a rest while Ajax fought the Count of Rivenshari. He won. Next, was a long awaited rematch with me and Ajax, while his new recruit watches us fight. Wow, it was a very close fight. At the 17th round of arrows and slashes, I ended victorious, in the end, with much injuries sustained. The old man is quite a fighter. A lot of people actually praised me for winning and I felt like the people around started to know my name without me introducing myself to them.

Wew, a weird meeting with Prince Jasher and a fellow named Valenzo at the archives. Well, I did some reading about the world and cultures and realized the city has quite some quirky people. After that, was a small talk with Jasher and then I went to the Golden Hart. A very nice place I must say, it has almost everything from a bar, an arena even some gardens with hot springs. I met Brady, Ajax, Reese and couple more people. AH! And Lord Domonico. When I came in the room, they playing some cards with money involved. And so, I joined in and ended up losing some money. *sigh* After a few drinks and rounds of cards, another day has passed.

Well, a lot happened but not very significant things. Besides, Road having issues and an apparent organized killing spree. Yup, a lot happened. Well, then let's start with the Salon. I met a lot of people and even saw the King. I was just having a drink there when I met Prince Jasher, who I quickly became someone I can talk too while drinking. The conversation was informative and a bit dark despite the what was happening all around the both of us on the bar. Later on, I'd meet my second boss, Shard, she's like how Audric described her. Looks like a workaholic with issues but she means well. After that, I actually worked for a lot of things and managed to make myself a cabin for me to stay in at the Compact.

Arx has quite a bit of things to look at, from the flowers to its buildings. I think what I like most though, is the street lamps that provide light to the city.

It's difficult to put into words how proud I am of Phantom. He brought us to victory during the Raconteur Cup, even after I set us back during a stretch. I knew I messed up when I attempted to direct him around one of the other horses, so I loosened the reins and let him take over. He knew. He just /knew/ what needed to be done and did it. It's incredible how sharp his instinct is and even more incredible how I continue to hold him back from doing what he knows should be done. I keep telling myself that it's all part of the learning process and while I know that he and I have been training together for the better part of three years, I know that I've much to learn. The bond between horse and rider is not to be underestimated nor is it easily established. But, once it is, it is like none other to be experienced on this realm.

I plan to invest the silver that Phantom won into the Crovane stables and expand the building to make room for more horses. It might have to wait until the spring foals are born, though, which isn't a bad thing as it'll give me more time to design a new wing. I am beyond excited for this new project! And I'm very grateful to Phantom and the opportunity that was given to us.

I wasn't informed about Everard or my colleagues being evil cultists, long ago. I was a little peeved about it, but I'm fairly confident he and his followers weren't planning to be quietly and politely arrested.

I remember who helped us out when the last cult left with a third of our forces, and the city was preparing for a protracted siege, and there was an crime uptick in the Boroughs while I had to immediately conduct my first recruitment drive.

The Crimson Blades will receive no censure from the Iron Guard, and I look forward to fighting alongside them once more when war inevitably knocks on our door again.

At last the Singing Stones can open the doors! It took a lot of work, and I've still got to fix up some of the furnishings, but Mistress Josephine has been absolutely wonderful in helping me get everything set straight. Now to get the time and funds to stock up materials and any additions to the new building that need doing. And of course, there are new designs to be thought up. Ma would be proud I think.

The Marigold couch turned out really nice, I've got another in the works but sweet Jayus am I exhausted. Who'd have thought getting the place set up would take so much out of me.

Still, with what I have in the works, I'm excited to finally be getting started.
