Marital_Status

The current marital status of the character with it simplified to 'married' or 'unmarried', and not needing to know the specifics of single, divorced, widowed, etc. None of the cultures of the five great houses accept polygamous marriages, though the lifestyles of commoners are far more flexible than those of nobles. Most commoner marriages are the equivalent of common law marriages without much ceremony involved, but noble marriages virtually always represent a binding alliance between two houses that is not easily dissolved. While in theory a noble marries of their own free will, in practice there is a very delicate balance to find between what one wants and what one is willing to tolerate for the sake of familial peace. In some rare cases, marriages are made to seal treaties, and to refuse one of these is to risk expulsion from one's family, or other censure.
