Whisper House and Challenges

Posted by Grazia on 04/15/21
Since the Radiant of Whisper House apparently doesn't understand enough about how Challenges work to inform and educate her patron, the Marquessa Leporidae, I shall helpfully note here, in what could have been a messenger but is not, how challenges between nobles function in the Compact.

A challenge is not an escalation. It is merely the point where the one challenged is requested by the challenger to reflect on their choices. This introspection should consider whether the challenged is in the right and should stand by their doings or apologize. If they feel that they are in the wrong, an apology is generally issued here. Otherwise, champions are called.

This is not world-shaking or highly impactful. Two champions of the Champions Guild are retained. They have to belong to the Champions Guild, by tradition. The populace is entertained. And afterwards, the matter is done. Done. Finished. Resolved.

There is no need for common ground, though it may be found. The challenger and the challenged may continue to dislike one another afterwards, or they may find that the challenge gives them something to connect on. However, if they persist in hating one another afterwards, they may, but through the challenge, they have both agreed that when it is done, it is done. Done forever. No more complaining about it. No passive-aggressive white journals. Nothing. Done.

So, Marquessa Leporidae, thank you for having the curtesy to properly respond to the challenge by the Princess-Consort of Thrax. Unfortunately, your champion will need to belong to the Champions Guild -- your protege the Whisper Radiant should have explained this, but she seems to be having problems with thin air caused by her attempts to rise above things that are above her. So we will await your edits patiently.
