A Noble Departure

Posted by Panic on 09/28/22
Rumors spread like wildfire through the Grayson ward, and their origin seems to be the estate itself. Talk of two of the most prominent Graysons in the family, Aindre, the Hammer of House Grayson himself, and Ailys, the renowned healer, walking out sans their royal titles catches and flares in the glorious flames of gossip. Why would two staunch members of the peerage discard their titles, their very nobility? The fact that it was done so quietly with little to herald the renunciation only increases the speculation. The people tingle with anticipation and shock as they await a reason. The whispers claim that they did it for honor - but what sort of promise would require such a sacrifice? All that can be gleaned is that the shedding of titles coincided with the pair leaving the city, heading on a trip north.

The nobles of the Crownlands turn their thoughts and tongues on the Highlord herself, questioning why key members of the Grayson family are shedding their noble titles. Crownland commoners, depending on how well they liked the two, are either heartbroken or furious that the siblings would abandon their titles and family in such perilous times. The nobles of the North and the Oathlands seem perturbed and more than a little curious as to the reasoning behind such a decision, especially since it is suggested to be a matter of honor, but are careful to keep their hunger for gossip to themselves. After all, the commoners might speculate and gossip, but the nobility should be above such things. The people of the Lyceum and the Saffron Isles either find this move hilarious or, for those who are more politically astute, try to unravel whatever game is surely being played here. The Mourning Islanders are far too busy with their own troubles to care much about a couple of Grayson royals leaving their positions. While House Grayson has risen in popularity since the fall and rise of Bastion, this event puts a little tarnish and what has otherwise been a golden recovery.

None Greater indeed?
