Blackreef

Nearly 300 years ago, Lord Malagant Blackshore married Lady Saturnalia Redreef and became a Redreef himself. Not long afterward, a dispute broke out over the line of succession within the Redreef noble family. Feelings of entitlement on both sides eventually erupted into a full-blown schism, and after a typically intense and violent conflict (we ARE talking about the Mourning Isles), Malagant and Saturnalia's faction became the Abandoned tribe known as House Blackreef.

For nearly three centuries, Blackreef built their identity around being the rightful holders of House Redreef's domain, and expressed this belief by raiding the hell out of Redreef ships. Redreef, in turn, destroyed Blackreef's settlements whenever and wherever they were found. The most recent occurrence of this was in 1004 AR, when Redreef blitzed Blackreef's stronghold and wiped out most of its ruling family.

Since then, Blackreef's fortunes dwindled. They became hardscrabble raiders living hand-to-mouth, affecting airs of nobility while living like paupers. When Baroness Ember Redreef sent representatives of her House to drum up anti-Helianthus sentiment in the local shavs, it ended in tragedy as Melora Blackreef, one of the teenage twin 'Baronesses' of Blackreef, drunkenly stabbed and killed the other, Belide.

Despite that, or perhaps because of it, negotiations for Blackreef to bend the knee became a possibility. In the end, the diplomatic envoy of Lady Maya Redreef, Lord Griffin Redreef, Lady Helewise Redreef, Ethan Merari, and Martinique Barlinnie provided the last push needed to secure Blackreef's surrender.

Under the supervision of Redreef's Minister of Infrastructure, Lady Maya, and through donations from Baroness Ember, Lord Griffin, Lady Helewise, Lady Marina Redreef, Lady Nimue Redreef, Lady Sedna Redreef, Countess Carita Darkwater, and Princess Natasha Thrax, the destitute Blackreef colony was rebuilt into a farming community.

One member of the Blackreef family, Hector, clung to the feud between the Blackreefs and the Redreefs, and after the surrender of his family, nearly succeeded in assassinating Baroness Ember. He then went on the run, but is reported to have died in a rough pirate port, bludgeoned to death after trying to cheat silver out of a woman who loudly declared her name to be "Donatella Thex."
