Baron's Banditry Foiled
Posted by Apostate on 10/10/20
Several Grayson guards along with a group consisting of Prince Aindre, Ladies Kaia and Kalani, Lord Jyri and Dames Felicia and Irisa took up the journey from the city of Arx down to Brighthold to help support the expansion of the port there. Attacked on route by bandits along the Great Road, the group took an overnight rest before arriving at the keep of the local Baron Slade to investigate why the locals were praising him, but why his name was being suggested as being involved.
The Baron himself was upset, his farms struggling as so many from his fealty stood forward in the recent call to arms against the Eurusi, dinner was reported to be terse among the group. Ladies Kaia and Kalani along with Prince Aindre gave the Baron great reasons to become more calm and how they might have solutions for him - Duke Harlan's arrival also putting weight to their words. The group of diplomatic voices leading to a frustrated and almost heretical Baron to stand down.
However, the topic of banditry came forward. Firm glare from Kaia and questioning from Harlan saw the Baron fold and reveal his part in the role. Arrested, he offered to pay what was taken as pennance - so long as his House and people would be spared. Taken to the Courts in Brighthold, however, the banditry was not met with any leniency and the Baron was stripped of titles. His son, Steffan Slade, replacing him and honouring his father's pledge to increase the guards along their stretch of the Great Road.
In the most part, the banditry here has stopped.
