Of Poisonous Butterflies

Princess Berenice has been all over the city lately. She's making herself known - hitting all the parties and all of the most popular wtering holes for nobles of her stature. She's buying the most fabulous dresses, wearing them out, showing them off. More than that, she seems to tapdance right on the edge of impropriety without quite edging over - at least from the Lyceum's standpoint. She's part of scandal that gets noticed - popular in the gossip columns and in the tea houses. She is by turns admired (by the Velenosa) and frowned upon (by the Valardin), but since she doesn't quite edge over into the truly scandalous, all they do right now is tell their children that it's fine to want to be a Princess someday, but maybe not -That Princess-. And if those same children nod understandingly but eye Berenice's dresses longingly well. That's all part of her reputation, isn't it?
