Story Emits

It's an overcast day in Arx, a bit cloudy and dreary, but not that out of the ordinary. It's approaching late afternoon when the sky goes pitch black, as if it was suddenly midnight, and stays that way for near an hour. There's no real sensible explanation, though most hold that the moon drifted in between the sun for a short time, and it was hard to tell due to the clouds. In the day that follows, thousands of people write bleakly depressing white (and presumably black) journals at the Great Archive. That's to be expected, scholars comment, as sudden darkness does tend to produce somber thoughts.
