Vanora is working to gain the honor of being a Second Reflection in the Temple of the Thirteenth. She has been deeply devoted to Tehom since she was a child, and believes that He favors her specially, whether or not it is actually true. Recently she has been leading rituals and discussions about the Dark Reflection, and has also been researching old texts to find out some of the deeper secrets in the history of Tehom's church. She believes that her work and unwavering devotion ought earn her a place among his Second Reflections, and is trying to make this happen. Though she hopes that Tehom will hear her prayers and see them granted, she is well aware that it is mortals, and betimes mortal politics, that create these structures of leadership. Thus she will be talking to others who might be influential in her cause, as well as continuing to show herself worthy of what she seeks.

The mirrormasks are deeply impressed by her consistent display of devotion, and as she goes about her days, she can swear she feels watched whenever she passes by a mirror, as if something besides her reflection was staring back at her. One night is particularly intense, and she swore that her reflection smiled at her, and thirteen days later she receives word that the Mirrormasks have decided to promote her to a Second Reflection.
