Sorena Merula
No siren did ever so charm the ear of the listener as the listening ear has charmed the soul of the siren.
Description: Vibrant, vivid red shoulder length hair is certainly attention grabbing and compliments her smooth caramel skin and arresting hazel eyes. Hers is a beauty that stands all on its own, complimented by an inner strength and energy that makes her seem much taller than her petite frame really is. Affable, with smiles that light up the dark, it's easy for her to make friends and win allies with all of her warm charm.
Personality: Sorena is unmistakably self-confident. She believes in herself and her abilities before anyone else's and she knows beyond a shadow of a doubt she is something special and unique. As a result, she expects others to treat her well at all times. She is shrewd to a fault and competitive - she enjoys a good challenge and getting to the top, but not more than she enjoys staying there. She is keenly self aware of herself and highly poised, able to accept compliments, praise, and admiration gracefully and with self-possession.
Background: She hates fishing. She considers the fact that she was born into a fisherman's family absolutely dreadful luck. Untangling nets, waiting for hours, and hauling in catches of them is just not her idea of a good time. Her father had of course expected her to take over the family business when she came of age so that he could retire but she knew better. She knew she was born with music in her veins. It manifested itself early on with her voice and the gift of song but as she grew, she began to experiment with instruments. If it could make a sound, she found she could make a song.
With the acquisition of Estroch by House Grimhall, her family's fortunes began to change and evolve. What was once barely a living became a booming business and her family began making more and more money. Around the time that Iseulet was raised to Marquessa, her family had established Elune's first inn and she saw her opportunity to perform. Her father, stubbornly, remained a fisherman however.
She was wildly popular and kept drawing larger and larger crowds until a serendipitous meeting between herself and Captain Praxedes. Filling her head with the possibilities of her future, Praxedes lured Sorena to Arx with tales of a Bard's College and more inns to find her fortune and fame in. Soon after, the Captain introduced her to Iseulet. She's found her place in House Seryn as their 'Keeper of Songs' - a position that she knows she will shine at even if she's not entirely sure what that might entail just yet.
