Action by Aleksei

Aleksei has decided to do something stupid(ly brave?): he's writing to try and meet Onyx.

Given recent appearances by Despair, Aleksei feels like there's something that could be poked here, given that he knows Onyx is the Herald of Despair and that Despair seems to think Azazel is overstepping in certain areas. It certainly /does/ make sense that Despair would be unhappy with all of this scary, despair-inspiring information being hidden away, after all. So maybe Onyx is...pokable?

So Aleksei writes a letter. On Prism's suggestion, he simply takes it to the Onyx Mausoleum and leaves it. His strategy is to try to meet Onyx open and honestly and without pretense. He's not going to fight. He's not even going to try and gather intel (although he'll take whatever he's allowed to remember). He's going to have as honest a conversation as he can have.

His letter reads:

--

My Lord Onyx, Master of the Black Library:

I'm not sure whether it's vain to think you might know who I am or insulting to suggest you don't. In either case, I am Aleksei Morgan, the Archlector of Skald and a Godsworn priest of the Faith. We are very much not on the same side of matters, and I won't try to lie or pretend otherwise. But I'm writing you because I was visited by Jayus's Dark Reflection that you serve as Herald, and the the encounter left me with some very heavy considerations that have compelled me to pen this letter.

I would like to respectfully request an audience. I come to you proverbial white flag in hand. I will make no attempt to harm you. (I'm sure that you probably find the idea of me managing to harm you laughable, really.) I will, to the best of my ability, be respectful and honest with you. I hope you'll offer me a similar consideration, although your choices are, of course, your own. As are mine.

I ask only this: if you do me the honor of speaking with me, that you allow Skald to be present as well. He's assured me that he holds no grudge against you and won't start any sort of conflict. For a god of the Pantheon, he can be stunningly neutral in a lot of matters. But he's someone who would prefer to see me alive and unharmed. I'm sure you and I both know that I have pretty much no defenses of my own if you decided to see me dead. Skald's concern is just seeing me out alive and unharmed, nothing more.

I await your reply.

Most Respectfully,

Blessed Aleksei Morgan, Archlector of Skald

And then Aleksei prays. This isn't necessarily to actually gain protection from anyone, but he prays because he needs to. He prays to Gloria to ask her for courage. He prays to Vellichor to ask him to wisdom in this effort to fight his Reflection and its Herald. He prays to Lagoma to help him bring change into the world, to help nudge one situation into something else. He prays to Death to ask her to keep his soul safe if he falls. He prays to the Sentinel to help him see the truth, and he prays to Limerance to keep him steady with the strength of his vows and the love and fidelity he holds with those closest to him. He prays to Petrichor, Mangata, and Gild to help him keep all the parts of the world safe -- from the earth to the sea to the villages and cities themselves.

He prays to Jayus for forgiveness. And then he prays to Aion to help him protect the Dream itself.

He entrusts key questions to Saedrus, Aureth, and Fortunato to ask him if he returns to help gauge the possibility of him returning Writ-bound. (Not that that's likely to happen with Skald there, but.) Simple questions that they know the answers to that will be obvious if he answers untruthfully on purpose as a signal. And they also know his plan, so if he returns back without memory of an encounter, they should at least be able to tell him he /went/. (If, again, somehow Skald wasn't able to tell him as much.)

That's the other important part: Skald is definitely going with him!

I had asked about the cost of attempting a rite of protection on a person, but Aleksei has opted against it after speaking to Prism. (He is also not going to let Audric draw blood wards on him.) However, I do have 600 econ resources sitting on Aleksei. If they would, uh. Help something. Feel free to use them.

Onyx replied, and this is def happening.
