Marquessa Dominique Wyrmguard
To defend the weak and protect the helpless. A knight is not made by the vows she swears, but by how well she honors them on the field when choices are not simple or easy.
Description: More strong than beautiful, Dominique's appeal comes from an overwhelming sense of purpose about her. Her ebon black hair often is kept back in a severe braid, enhancing the sharp lines of her jaw and cheekbones. Intense blue eyes, the color of the summer sky, miss little and can inspire faith or terror, depending on the emotion behind them. Of an average height, she often fills more space with her sheer presence than her smaller frame allows. In public, she always seems stoic and calm, her movements graceful and sure, but in private during unguarded moments, one can see her severity fade into a good humored young woman or catch a hint of the weariness she hides so well.
Personality: There is surety of purpose, and then there is stubborn will. Dominique embodies both, honestly. She doesn't deny that her lofty ideals are often impractical, but that doesn't mean they shouldn't be pursued. The world is a place full of great goodness and beauty, but just as much horror and evil. The Valardin know that better than most, and only their purity of strength stems the tide from their lands. It's not that she doesn't understand the need for compromise, it's just that compromise is for other people to do, to handle. She can't afford to do it, and she carries that burden heavily. She often wishes for the carefree days before her lessons began, but to shirk her duties, especially in the face of tragedy, is an unforgivable sin.
Background: Some say that there is no family more honorable in all of the Oathlands, no vassal house more loyal to Valardin, no truer knights than the sons and daughters of House Wyrmguard. Marquessa Dominique Wyrmguard attempts to embody this well. She regrets the circumstances surrounding her inheriting the title so young, with her famous father perishing at the Tragedy at Sanctum to a surprise attack by bloodthirsty shavs, but she has been preparing her whole life for the moment she would find the burden of rule. Raised on the ideals of chivalry and just rulership, her march stands as one of the oldest and most stalwart backers of House Valardin against the Abandoned that threaten all of the Compact.
Her childhood was spent with one lesson after another from her father about the way that terrible men can abuse power and imbued in her an ironclad devotion to high minded principles. Unapologetically idealistic, she realizes that a very black and white approach makes her a poor fit for the treacherous political waters of Arx and is happy to defer the games to her sister Desiree, but never loses sight that the burden of the difficult final decisions must fall upon her shoulders.
