Tuscak Trial by Combat

Tuscak Iron Foot has demand trial by combat for his crimes. These crimes include inciting a riot to break the cease fire between Oathland Shavs and House Valardin, and conspiracy to depose the current chief of the Iron Foot Abandoned tribe. Normally, Tuscak as an Abandoned would not be granted the courtesy of a trial and just be executed outright, but Prince Edain has generously agreed to death by combat to give leaders of select Abandoned tribes a chance to witness Sentinel's justice.

Merek has joined the Cavalier Table.

Roland has joined the Main Floor.

Octavia has joined the Main Floor.

Edain has joined the Quiet Alcove.

Edward has joined the Main Floor.

Darrow enters, silent and stern-faced. He clasps his stormcloak around his shoulders, heading to stand by Octavia. He doesn't speak, but stands as a silent shadow near the Magistrate.

Arik has joined the Main Floor.

Show up a little early, Edward walks into the unfamiliar place where he takes a gander at the set up of the fighting area. He gives a smile and a nod to Marian if he catches her eye before he turns to walk down to the main floor where he will find a seat.

Merek has come with a small amount of Guardsmen. Not too many, but enough to assist if the Abandoned decide to take issue with the Sentinel's Justice. It isn't expected that it will be needed, but it is a gesture of good faith from the Crown. He looks from beneath his cloak's hood while it covers him in full. He nods to his men, who move to settle in to watch the trial by combat, and he himself moves to find a seat, pulling out his flask and taking a small drink of wine from it. He then places that back at his hip and watches on with a somber expression. Sentinel's Justice and Gloria's Will, he watches.

Katarina, garbed in comfortable silks and armed with her usual daggers, has found herself seated alongside her elder sibling, Alis, at the honorific table with a grand view of the incoming guests and familial members alike. A young owl sits perched upon a decorative piece upon the table between the two young women while they converse quietly amongst themselves, waiting for all to settle and things to go underway.

1 Saik Guard, Bodyguard, A Cat arrive, following Karadoc.

Darrow has joined the Main Floor.

Corban has joined the Main Floor.

Alis sweeps in, accompanied by her erstwhile aide-e-sitter Sir Rhys. She does give the alcove and her brother a quick glance to make sure all is well there before she makes her way to the Honor Table and settles in. She is, of course, seated in such a way that she can see everything going on in the alcove in case it looks like Edain is in some way being threatened. Protip: She has her flail and a sword so she is not going to take kindly to bad things happening to the big bro! All this, while she converses quietly with Katarina.

Octavia enters the hall with her usual retinue and finds a place to stand near the wall. From the announcement made in the entry hall, she's present to observe as Chief Magistrate, not as Lady Kennex, though she intentionally left her court regalia behind. The magistrate nods to Darrow, then leans in to say something brief.

Karadoc has joined the Main Floor.

Asher has joined the Main Floor.

It was not that Tesha was exceptionally silent or sneaky so much as she managed to be remarkably unobtrusive: one moment she wasn't there and the next moment she was. Perhaps someone had spoken to her about her nigh-unto-funerary garb because the Telmar came in a brighter red frock today that almost seemed suited for someone her age and not an old matron. Still, she was as serious faced as ever, arriving in her cousin's escort.

Karadoc made his way into the the area, quiet, and keeping to himself tonight, though he was dressed as common in his houses green and white. He joined others on the main floor, and stood out of the way to watch the proceedings.

Tesha has left the Honor Table.

Tesha has joined the Main Floor.

Tables aren't well-suited for men in armor, or so Roland has generally found; sitting down and such requires more negotiating with a sword than it's worth. So, he stands, his sword sheathed, and waits for the proceedings to begin.

Corban walked in alongside Tesha, dressed as he ever was as a plain, unadorned soldier, and could pass for an armsman assigned to guard his cousin. But no, he was Lord Corban Telmar, nephew to the infamous Duke Arn, and there to observe the trials much like anyone else. He found a spot for himself and Tesha on the main floor, and swept his blue eyes over the gathering crowd.

Edain sits quietly with the delegation of the Oathland abandoned tribes. He does his best to nod his head in greeting to people as they enter, but by in large, he is conversing quietly with the delegation and answering their many questions.

Fergus heard there was going to be a fight! Well shit, like he's not going to show up to watch a couple of people beat the piss out of each other. The big Redrain hangs off to the side, not having taken a seat anywhere just yet. Likely wants to see if he sees anyone he knows who he can take bets with.

Marian is standing close by Edain, watching his back as he sits amongst the Oathlands Shav Tribe delegates. Her quiet gaze brooks no interference with Edain. Oathbinder is on her back and her twin shortswords are at her sides, and all three weapons are peace-tied.

Unfortunately, Asher is not nobility, nor royalty, and thankfully he's not of the Abandoned. But he's of the city, and if someone wants to toss him out they're welcome to try. But he's not making a fuss; in fact, he looks more chipper than likely anyone in the room! Like someone who has recently got the best sleep he's ever had. Not a word from him but for a civil and proper bow of respect to those royalty what deserve such recognition, and then he's going to find a seat near the side if possible, right next to the action. Entertainment? Actual care of what happens? Who knows what this man from the Lowers is here for. He does of course have sheathed weapons, but... Well, things always go wrong in some manner. Plans don't work.

Katarina raises a finger in discreet gesture toward Fergus, motioning the prince to join her and Alis at their seats around the Honor Table. Tesha and Corban also receive invitations with a gentle wave of the hand, as well, if she can catch their eye.

Giuseppe, a kindly old man arrives, following Luca.

Alis adds her wave to Katarina's. They won't bite at this table. Honest!

Fergus wiggles his fingers over at Marian, nodding. In very much a 'hey there' kind of gesture to the fellow Sword.

Oh, and because Fergus' player is blind and didn't see that last part, Fergus does tromp over towards Katarina and Alis.

As the nobles and common folk of Arx take their seats in their areas, a scruffy man, lean and dirty from his time in the dungeon is brought up to the center area in front of where Prince Edain Valardin and the Oathlands Shav Tribe Delegates have arrived to witness Sentinel's justice. Among them representatives that the Valardin delegates will recognize from three of the larger tribes: Asper Oakentree, Athaur Rivenshari and Fava Underhill. As well as men, women and a few teens from the smaller tribes.

A young man dressed in Valardin livery calls out to everyone present, "Tuscak Iron Foot, you have demanded trial by combat for your crimes. These crimes include inciting a riot to break the cease fire between Oathland Shavs and House Valardin, and conspiracy to depose the current chief of the Iron Foot Abandoned tribe." He turns to face the assembled crowd and provides context for tonight's trial by combat, "Normally, Tuscak as an Abandoned would not be granted the courtesy of a trial and just be executed outright, but Prince Edain has generously agreed to death by combat to give leaders of select Abandoned tribes a chance to witness Sentinel's justice. The combat will be till either party yields or incapacitation." He turns and bows to Edain, signaling that he will be addressing the crowd.

Rohm the Blackguard arrives, following Caelis.

Edward turns to look at the livery as he tucks his hands behind his back. He listens and then shifts his attention to Edain back by the delegation. He has a more attentive look now as he takes in the methodical nature of the proceedings.

Caelis has joined the Main Floor.

Striding in earlier than might be expected of him, Luca the Lazy, Champion prince of Grayson, seems in a particularly good mood for a somewhat somber occasion, judging by his easy grin and light step. A grin spreading even wider when it becomes apparent he's not too late to see the fight. In fact, the feckless duelist can't help but bring two fingers to his lips and let loose an ungodly shrill cheering whistle, followed by a roared out, Lenosian-accented. "KICK HIS ASS, ED!" Well...that's one way to make an entrance. Not exactly the most appropriate way given Valardin's feelings about honor and solemnity of rites of Sentinel, but...a very Luca sort of way. At least he's moving to find himself a seat at nearby table, still with a cheerful lopsided grin, and his eyes set for the combat to come.

Arik moves to take his place with the others, for the trial by combat. He moves into the main floor. The young warrior glances to those around him, nodding in greeting the sword of his family. It's an odd thing to be watching a combat happen though it is a moment where he will learn.

Luca has joined the Honor Table.

The Prince of Sanctum bows his head and takes a step forward out from the delegation so he can speak loudly and addres those gathered in the Vow. "The Sentinel is called by many names, among them the Faceless God, and the Silent Watcher. And his gaze is wide and deep, and there is little he does not see. It is from his teachings we learned the sanctity of trial by combat. The Sentinel is impartial, he cares not for who bends their knee to him, he cares only for pure justice. He will guide the hand of who's actions were in the right no matter who they are." He blinks mid speech and looks to Luca and says, "Yes.. thank you Prince Luca..." he clears his throat, "Bring forth the accused. May the Sentinel guard the righteous!"

Freja has joined the Honor Table.

Freja checked dexterity + stealth at difficulty 15, rolling 31 higher.

Tuscak is brought forward to Prince Edain and the Oathland Shavs Tribe delegates. He looks with scorn on those that choose to sit by Prince Edain's side. His voice growls from his throat, "I...Tuscak Iron Foot will face this 'justice' that you seek to impose on me." He then has the audacity to spit on the marble floor to show his distain for those in front of him, "May the spirits guide my hand..." He looks smug, almost as if he's sure that he will win the combat and walk out of here a free man.

Freja slips in before any are the wiser, claiming an empty seat beside her brother with a drink in her hand like she was there the entire time.

Reese has joined the Honor Table.

Alis growls back at Tuscak from her spot at the table full of people. Yes, little tiny Alis just tried to intimidate him. She doesn't even look sorry. Nope. The guy was just disrespectful to the Highlord.

Reese arrives while adorned in her slivery steel plate. She has her weapons with her, but the girl often does. She has a good deal of bling on in addition to her steel and weapons and is looking very shiny. The warrior princess smiles to those gathered here and starts toward the honor table. Maybe she noticed Luca there. She takes a seat there.

"Spirits fuckin piss on your damn soul, shitheel." Fergus has his hackles raised a bit, snarling at Tuscak. "How 'bout you try me on for size, big'un? I'll make you fucking famous."

While Alis growls and Fergus trades venomous words with Tuscak, Katarina levels a withering stare upon the Abandoned, fingers fisted in a white-knuckled grip around her teacup as she watches him.

Merek looks over to Fergus, and lifts his brow a small bit from where he's at. There is an exasperated sigh, and he just rubs his face with a gloved hand a small bit, the claws on it tapping his chin in thought and looking to Alias as well. He seems to be very introspective, and looks towards the Abandoned.

"I hope the spirits will guide you on where every your journey leads you after this trial." If the spitting on the floor bothers him, he doesn't show it. "You stand accused of attempting to incite a riot, and attempted murder of your own blood. The Sentinel has seen, and the sentinel shall judge you." He looks back to the delegation and nods to a young man to come forward, "Let your crimes be spoken by the rightful chief of the Iron Foot tribe."

Marian growls in the back of her throat at the insult delivered to Prince Edain but keeps at her post. She fingers her twin shortswords at her sides, leveraging a look that shows she would love to take that man on.

Caelis has left the Main Floor.

Caelis has joined the Honor Table.

A young man steps out from the crowd of Oathland Shav delegates, Serad Iron Foot is no more than thirteen years old but he has the bearing of boy that has had to take on the duties of a man. He faces his uncle, Tuscak Iron Foot, that is standing between the two Valardin guards and says his peace to the man that is facing trial by combat, "Tuscak Iron Foot. You sought me out after the death of my parents and convinced me that my people were dead. My home was gone. The only solution was to join my parents in death. Your twisted words convinced me to douse myself and my sisters," He points to the two little girls in the stands, "With oil and urged me to light the three of us on fire."

Serad then turns and motions to Edain, "And only through the intervention of Prince Edain Valardin and his knights, was this tragedy prevented." He then turns around, putting his back to Tuscak, signifying that this man is no longer recognized by his chief, and moves to stand in front of Edain. He gives him a solemn look before getting down on one knee, "I am a boy, not yet a man but I carry the weight of those left of the Iron Foot tribe on my shoulders. I speak for them today, all but this man accused, to offer my solemn oath of fealty to House Valardin. I offer my loyalty to the man that has opened his house to my people." He looks up to Edain with hope in his eyes that his new idol accepts just as Tuscak struggles in anger with the guards that are holding him, the man is enraged at the display his nephew is giving to the crowd. It's almost as if he wants to get free to have a bout with his nephew.

Tesha took a quiet sip of her tea from the stands, watching the situation with the same mild air she seemed to watch everything with. The outburst from the man won a slow blink and another sip of tea.

Arik nods to the other "Indeed a good evening, though I admit to it being unusual to not be in a fight but to be set to watch." He smirks a little though turning his focus back to the area and then back to those around him once more not wishing to miss anything.

Edain bows to the boy chief that just swore his fealty to him, "You do my honor Serad Iron Foot. You will always have a home in the Oathlands." He looks up at the struggling, Tuscak, "Tuscak." he calls out the mans name clearly, "You will face Sir Roland Bergere, one of my finest knights, and one of the strongest of his generation." He turns then to where Roland stands, being that stoic, meat wall with perfect posture that he is, "May the Sentinel guard the righteous." He says as he motions to the guards to step back so the fighters may begin when they are ready.

Roland has left the Main Floor.

"I am honored to serve, Your Grace," Roland answers, bowing with his fist to his chest. He gives the prisoner a look of distaste, glancing at the man's nephew. "May the Sentinel show us the truth."

Roland wields Lady Sandrine, an alaricite longsword.

Tuscak is seething at the events that just occurred. When he is handed a sword and let go, he gives it a test swing, looking to see who his opponent is. There is a moment where his eyes widen when he sees the size of the man he's about to face. But then a look of determination comes over him as he squares off against Roland.

Arik considers the others words and nods "I think this is wise, thank you for a different point of view." He will turn back now looking to the area once more silent while he waits unless spoken to for now.

Serad gives a bow to Valardin's champion, acknowledging his words and then takes his seat so he can watch the match. His manner is proud, and he ignores his uncle's anger for the man is already dead to him.

It isn't that Roland lets the man hit him, exactly -- but he does let the Abandoned accused take the first swing, gaining the measure of the man's skill and footwork. His sword practically chimes as it matches Tuscak's, blow by blow -- the hit he takes seeming to not phase him overly much. His pauldron absorbs another glancing blow as he pivots and swings Sandrine hard at the man who would murder children for his own gain, the knight's expression grimly determined.

Tuscak looks vindicated when his first blow gets through and causes Sir Roland a wound. However, his next two passes are unsuccessful and he grunts as Roland's blade cuts into him. Blood starts to flow down the man's chest. Since he has nothing left to loose, he does not yield but continues to press at the Valardin knight before him.

Nicks and cuts -- well. Roland doesn't much dodge, instead taking the brunt of the Abandoned man's assault. Clang go the weapons, a thump gets Roland. His riposte, though, is swift and clean, and so it goes. Take a blow, swing in for a hit, the shimmering sword in his hand moving gracefully -- even if her wielder is something of a side of beef in a fancy tin can.

Blow by blow, Tuscak manages to land minor blows on his opponent but for every time his blade cuts into Roland, the large warrior causes a deeper wound on the desperate man. Open wounds with blood flow down his chest. The man even staggers a little after his last blow. But despite his poor odds, he continues to make his stand. He knows that yielding will only lead to his death so he keeps courting death at the hand of the large warrior before him.

"I will not yield," Roland says to the man as they dance, and for all the dribbles of blood -- here on his chin, there through the seam of his armor -- he's barely sweating. He looks rather like he could do it all day. It's not especially graceful. It's not unlike bashing at a rock. A rock in blue armor with a sword that swings back.

Arik watches the back and forth a brow furrowed as the hack and slash at one another though his body is tensed for some reason. It's likely he's seeing himself as part of the fight and wishing he could be of more help though he will stay put.

Tuscak staggers under the mighty blow of Roland's sword but the stubborn man refuses to fall. He manages to dodge the two other swings, trying to avoid the deadly blade that would have him marked for death. He starts to pant, his own body struggling to continue under the blood loss but somehow the man manages to stay on his feet.

Tired men make mistakes; wounded ones, too. When Roland strikes, it almost doesn't look like anything -- he steps forward, plants his foot, then simply...twists. With a full rotation, his sword drawing a perfect circle around him, he slices clean through the Abandoned's neck in one blow, his sword sharp enough that there is perilously little resistance as it passes through the man's flesh. Perhaps Tuscak has time to look surprised, but almost certainly, it as instant and painless a death as the man could have hoped for. "That is the Sentinel's mercy," grits Roland, flicking Sandrine expertly to rid her of the blood accrued upon the blade.

Tuscak's head rolls off his body and hits the floor, rolling to where Prince Edain and the Oathland Shavs Tribe delegates sit. A few move with murmurs. Serad does not flinch at his uncle's death. There is a calm acceptance of the boy that watches the man that would have seen him dead die at the Sentinel's justice.

Luca's on his feet even before the bladestroke has gotten half way to completion, recognizing it for the killing blow it is and even as the blood sprays, he's whistling that ungodly shrill two-finger whistle again and going on to call out. "WHOO! BEAUTIFUL CUT, ROL!" Gods, why do people let Luca out in public?

Edward laughs as he looks back at Luca and grins before he turns back and he gives a nod to the knight at arms. Edward shakes his head and then he glances to Arik a moment before back to the knight and the headless corpse.

The warrior nods to Edward. Arik though watches back and forth "I hadnt expected the battle to last perhaps as long as it did, though quite true indeed mobility has it's merrits." He doesnt seem phased at the head rolling off along the ground or at least not outwardly.

Reese winces a bit at Luca's whistle. She looks toward the corpse and then Roland. She doesn't seem to know how to respond. "Sir Roland!" She eventually cheers. Should she cheer, she doesn't seem to know.

The Prince of Sanctum steps forward and he knells down, gently closing the eyes of the severed head. Tuscak was a villian, but he fought hard, and Edain shows a somber dignity to his passing. Standing the Prince speaks in a clear voice, "The Sentinel has guided the blade of the righteous, and justice was served today." He looks to Octavia and says, "Lady Magistrate, do you believe the Sentinel's Justice was done this day?" He asks her in calm baritone voice.

Reese is overheard praising Roland for: Sir Roland serving the Sentinel's Justice.

Marian is overheard praising Roland for: For the mighty blow that served Sentinel's Justice.

Katarina is overheard praising Roland for: The justice of the Faceless God was served flawlessly this day.

Luca is overheard praising Roland for: A beautiful head cut. Just think of the skull...oh wait, we don't get to mount those skulls. Only Bringers. Damn.

Karadoc gave a small nod at the outcome, watching only for a bit longer, before he started to make his way out.

Octavia once again makes a religious gesture and murmurs, but as she's addressed, the judge steps forward. "The Silent Watcher has spoken," she replies in an exceptionally neutral tone. "Tuscak committed the acts he was accused of, and justice has been won, Your Grace."

Asher is overheard praising Roland for: The Sentinel worked through that blade, and His arm was true.

Alis is overheard praising Roland for: In Tuscak's Trial to Death by Combat for the Sentinel's Justice, Sir Roland has served justice well.

Karadoc has left the Main Floor.

1 Saik Guard, Bodyguard, A Cat leave, following Karadoc.

Fergus is overheard praising Roland for: A good fight and justice done. Owe that man a drink.

Merek stands up all of the sudden, and he looks to both Roland and where Tuscak are. The beheading in the middle of the duel has his gaze shifted from beneath his hood, as he shakes his head a little bit. He takes a small breath, and exhales. Whatever is going on in his mind, it is withheld for the time being. His cloak is pulled to him, and he decides to wait for now, to see if all will be well after what happened. His gaze moves to the Abandoned Leaders watching for the moment.

Roland bows his head, first to Edain, then to Octavia, and sheathes his sword carefully as he backs up a step from the fallen man's body. He looks down at it, frowning, before his jaw clenches and his expression clears. For all his success, he doesn't look especially jubilant at it.

Edain calls attendants and healers forward to tend to Roland, and to begin to gather the body of Tuscak they do so, respectfully. Edain bows to the Oathland Shav delegation and says, "Thank you for bearing witness to the Sentinel's Justice." and then he approaches Roland, gingerly placing a hand on his shoulder. "Thank you Sir Roland, for fighting with honor and for bearing the burden of carrying out the Sentinel's judgement. I have known few knights finer than you in my life, Sir." Finally then he turns to Serad and says, "We shoulld go tell your sisters it is done." He says to the young lad and makes a gesture to follow him if he wishes.

A messenger arrives, delivering a message to Katarina before departing.

Freja claps loudly between drinks from her flask

Prince Edain and his Sentinel's Justice has given the Oathlands Shav Tribe leaders something to think about. A few give respectful nods. A few stiffen at the death of Tuscak but all are respectful as they pay their respects to Prince Edain and his Champion, Sir Roland. Serad turns to Edain and nods softly, "I will tell them that justice was served." He will follow Edain out of the hall.

Freja is overheard praising Roland.

Henrik arrives, delivering a message to Darrow before departing.

"The warriors of the Oathlands are brave -- both those of the Valardin, and those of the forest," Roland says to the youthful Serad, before offering his liege another little bow -- before noticing he's dripping blood on the floor, and wincing, "Ah, I'm sorry, Your Grace." He fumbles at his belt for a handkerchief and dabs it at the cut on his chin. "I hope that doesn't stain."

"I have had to wash blood from my cloths many times. Think nothing of it." Edain says, as he makes his way from the the Vow with young Serad in tow.

With the spectacle done Edward gives a nod to Arik and then he slowly turns and begins to make his way to the doors, giving those he knows at the honor table a nod on his way out.

Freja has left the Honor Table.

Katarina rises quickly from her seat as the excitement of the battle wears and Roland's injuries comes into her field of view. "Sir Roland," the young princess calls out, her soft-spoken voice perhaps lost in the crowd, but she certainly isn't when she's appearing at his side. "May I help you?"

Octavia moves to speak briefly with Edain, then with the young chieftain, though the Magistrate's words to each are for them alone. Once she's made her way to the door, she motions for her guards and departs.

Edward has left the Main Floor.

Fergus has left the Honor Table.

Abbas Thrax is silent through the trial by combat and then turns and makes his way out. He keeps it a low profile because the Oathlanders be grumpy with the Bastard's Butcher, yo.

Abbas has left the Main Floor.

Alis giggles at something Caelis tells her, but than makes to stand of course. At the solemnity of the occasion. "I can help you tell the girls, if you like." she offers, waiting for Serad and Edain. "And Sir Roland, as always, you make us proud. A Combat Trial to the Death is not a light thing to agree too, but you carried out Sentinel's Justice admirably."

Merek holds up a hand and with a cant meant for his men, once it seems no violence will happen after the fact, all of them step into line and then file out for the time being. The man himself turns, his cloak shifted about in a small wave, as he moves towards the exit for the moment, seeming quiet and introspective for the time being.

"Uh," Roland blinks eloquently at Katarina, cheeks going red, "If it pleases you, Your Highness." He doesn't quite mumble, but his words are a little muffled by the handkerchief he's pressing to his chin. "It's not bad. I can tend it myself, sure enough."

Merek has left the Cavalier Table.

Aneka, 3 Iron Guardsmen, Meeka leave, following Merek.

Edain has left the Quiet Alcove.

Seeing Alis and Katarina rise, Caelis takes that as her cue to see herself out. She offers a wave to the princesses and tucks her hair behind her ears before slipping from the room quietly.

Caelis has left the Honor Table.

Rohm the Blackguard leaves, following Caelis.

Marian follows Edain and Serad out of the room, moving with the Oathlands Shav Tribe delegates to make sure that they are escorted out of the manor house. She gives a smile to Fergus as she passes out of the hall.

Katarina inclines her head toward Roland, a tentative hand set at his elbow as golden eyes skim over the crowded hall at length. "It would ease my mind greatly, if I knew you were seen to by the best of hands." A pause, and her brow gently furrows as her infantile owl sets off in search of the Mother of Mercies. "Be careful, Woody!" she calls, as though the bird might understand her. He probably does, after all it's hiding in Edain's shelves.

Octavia has left the Main Floor.
