Princess Sally Acorn, an acorn toting red squirrel, Princess Muffin, the fluffiest white puppy, Jenna arrive, following Kenna.

The ask questions extravaganza is actually a pretty modest affair. Calaudrin is sitting on the edge of one of the vacant bunks, letting his legs dangle over the edge as he sits with a group of green recruits. So far most of their questions have been about weapons and equipment and things like that. There is in fact, a snack table. It has some donuts on it, some cookies and other things. There's also hot coffee. "...No, you can't throw rocks back at them." He concludes to one young man, frowning at him. "Who said you could throw rocks back?"

Kenna points at Sparte. "I'm pretty sure that Officer Sparte did."

"Aw, come on." Calaudrin mutters when Kenna points at Sparte.

Harper chuckles and shakes her head, "That was a potatoe wasn't it?" She looks at Sparte. "Yeah pretty sure it was a potato."

Sparte doesn't look to have been paying attention when he gets picked out from the crowd. "What am I being voluntold for today?"

"Have you been throwing rocks at people?" Calaudrin asks of Sparte, looking disbelieving.

"No, I think Harper was right. It was potatoes. Except for when it was rocks, and it was at Ainsley." Kenna interjecting with SERIOUS THOUGHT on her face.

Sparte thinks for a little bit. "Ainsley asked to have things thrown at him for his blindfold training. I opted for colored pebbles."

"Okay, well that sounds like a completely seperate situation." Calaudrin is looking between them and furrowing his eyebrows. He's confused, this is fine. So are the young recruits. They're muttering about whether or not it would be okay for them to throw colored pebbles at Ainsley. "Anyway, does anyone have any other quetions?"

Sparte glances over the recruits before opting to speak up himself. "I am wondering how your new duties as a night interact with your duties as a senior guardsman. Particularly to issues of jurisdiction."

Harper grins at Sparte, "That's a good question." She makes her way across the room to settle on a bunk, pulling her legs up to sit cross-legged as she watches Cal and the recruits. Dot settles in to sleep on the floor near the foot of the bunk.

"Oh, that is." Kenna's just going to go sit on Harper's claimed bunk.

For that question, he tips his head from one side to the other with consideration. "I imagine that there might come a time when Grayson calls me away from the city. But as Grayson holds the crown, I can't imagine that they'd ask me to do anything that interferes with my work as a guard. As far as jurisdiction is concerned, when I am on duty and in the ward of the crown, my work is for the crown as it has always been. My loyalties aren't any more devided than others who sworn fealty to Grayson or to Thrax, as the case may be." He gives Sparte a quick grin.

"I guess that's not too different from whatever happens anyway." Kenna examines a fingernail like it's the most interesting thing in the world. "Do you have any plans for shaking things up?"

Harper grins over at her partner and scoots to make room before settling down cross-legged once again on the bunk. "Shaking things up how? You expecting him to stand up and dance, partner?" She chuckles.

"The goals of the guard are to maintain peace in the crown ward. Shaking things up is counter productive to that." Calaudrin looks from Kenna to Harper and back again. "Do not shake anything!" Please, please don't shake the crown ward.

Harper chuckles at Kenna. Then, getting an impish expression, she tilts her head and looks over at Cal as she asks, "So if you're trying to stop someone from robbing someplace and they're trying to get away and they get knocked down and gems go flying all over, do you go for the robber or the gems?" A grin twitches on her lips and she expressly avoids looking at Kenna to keep from laughing.

"Not THAT, //clearly// not that." Kenna cries, picking up a pillow to lightly wack Harper with it. "You're impossible."

Harper busts out laughing at this point and holds her hands up to fend off the pillow attack. "Hey now it's a real example! Figure that's worth something!"

"Since you don't walk patrols alone, one or two of you goes to chase down the original robber. The rest of you maintain order so that it doesn't turn into chaos." Calaudrin is reaches into his pockets and produces a slim metal case. He's going to need a smoke for this meeting. "Are there any other questions on jurisdiction? Because Sparte was onto somethere. We've had issues in the past."

The look Kenna sends Harper is one of VICTORY. "Isn't it basically anywhere in the ward of the crown and compact - upper and lower boroughs too? All the," handwave the word for the rest of the places, "are not our business?"

Sparte rubs at his jaw thoughtfully before speaking again. "I do have another question. We have a naval force now, the Iron Guard. Theoretically, any area at sea where you can't see land is the crown's jurisdiction. Does that mean we, at sea, can dispense justice as we see fit when not within sight of a fealty's shore?"

Zavi arrives, delivering a message to Harper before departing.

Calaudrin squints at Sparte for his question, his lips pressing briefly into a thin line. "The naval force of the Iron Guard is unlikely to leave the general vicinity of the city. We're the Army of Arx, not the army of 'random stretch of ocean.' So no, I don't think that's correct. If you sail out to Setarco but can't see land, I suspect Duchess Pravus would object to you dispensing justice out there." He switches focus to Kenna, "Right. We also don't have much pull over nobles that come into the ward of the crown and cause trouble, our goal there would be to hold them until one of their people can come and fetch them."

"Oh, okay. So. How do we get someone to come get them? IS there a list somewhere of who should get someone else." Kenna wants a list of nobles. That isn't at all nanny-state creepy at ALL.

Harper tilts her head at Sparte curiously at the mention of a navy. She eyes the messenger as they walk up and hand her a message, then just grins as she reads it before tucking it away. Wandering over to a desk she scribbles out a note and gives it back to them to carry back. Looking back over at Cal she listens closely to the answer he gives. She just shakes her head at Kenna, "You can deal with the silks then. I'll stick to the Burroughs."

"Uh, I mean. So say... uh..." Calaudrin scratches his head. "Say some Valardin noble gets angry that the Traders Tavern won't serve him milk after breakfast. So he takes his horse and a big tree branch and starts using both of those things to knock the whole building down in a one sided jousting match. You'll get him under control, preferably without hurting his horse and then send a messenger the Valardin ward. Probably to Princess Alis or Isabeau."

Sparte chuckles and nods to Calaudrin. "All the better, I just wanted to be able to cover my neck if I'm on a boat and someone says something is my problem."

Zavi arrives, delivering a message to Harper before departing.

Kenna elbows Harper with a half-scowl. "Come on, we all go everywhere. If I have to deal with the nobles, you have to too!"

Harper chuckles, "I didn't even know we had boats. Now I want to go sailing even more." She eyes the messenger as it arrives again, but this time she nearly laughs out loud before clamping a hand to her mouth. Clearing her throat and composing herself, she says, "Okay I have a question. What's the dividing line between when we arrest someone and when we just try and break it up or try and just calm them down. It's not always so clear." At Kenna's elbow she just chuckles, "Fine, I'll just keep them from kicking you in the chin like a good partner."

Calaudrin takes a long drag from his smoke, something he took the time to light in between questions. A long plume is exhaled towards the ceiling. "If you can just get them to stop what they're doing and move along, you don't really need to bring them in. People are going to get angry in bars and throw a few punches. If you think they're going to /stay/ angry and keep punching as soon as you're gone, you can grab a few and toss them into the cells over night. Same if you see a regular drunk that might hurt himself or is causing a nuisance. If you see someone committing a crime that's going to need to be pushed up along the chain, you can bring them in and hold them."

Calaudrin also adds, "You can't try and arrest someone for calling you mean names. For the record."

Harper grins and shakes her head, muttering, "Sticks and stones..." She looks thoughtful though for a minute, "Are the laws written down somewhere? How do you know what's a crime and what's allowed?"

"Oh, you mean every day in the lowers?" Kenna asks oh-so-sweetly to the whole not arresting name callers.

Tiny Tom leaves, following Sparte.

Tiny Tom arrives, following Sparte.

Sparte drops The Crown Court Vol 1 - Structure, Duties, and Procedures.

Sparte drops The Crown Court Vol 2 - Jurisdiction and Offenses.

Sparte drops The Crown Court Vol 3 - Directives to the Guard and Inquisition.

Sparte steps out of the room briefly, returning in short order with a small stack of books. They're set down unceremoniously in front of Calaudrin, with a small nudge of his chin towards Kenna and Harper.

"Yes, exactly. That. Don't be goaded into anything by anyone." Calaudrin warns and watches as Sparte gets up and walks out of the room, when he returns with books there's a smile on his face. "Thank you! We keep a set on hand of all the fun rules." He reaches over and taps the cover of one.

TOTALLY INNOCENT Kenna looks between the two officers and alll the recruits. "I would ~never~ be goaded into ~anything~."

Harper hops up and wanders over to start reading the books curiously, "Handy. Didn't know we had these." She flips pages, but pauses and glances at Kenna with a chuckle, "Course not partner. You're a pillar of resolve. It's obviously Sparte that we have to worry about being goaded." She gives an impish grin before nudging one of the recruits and pointing to a book saying, "Read."

As heavy books on law and order and being passed around for some light reading, Calaudrin will finish up that smoke. "If you have any more questions or concerns. I think you all know where to find me." Here at the barracks! Where he sometimes takes naps and also works, a lot. Being his main occupation and all.

Sparte settles back into a seat, looking over at Calaudrin. "Actually, Lieutenant, I have one question for you that is relevant to Guardsmen... Guardswomen Kenna and Harper. That being, can we have permission to map out the Barracks. There is some evidence that we might, you know. Have a hidden chamber."

"ohoh! Wait! Wait!" Kenna bounces up from her place to go dig in a handbag. "I got you this, so recruits~" Kenna turns to show it all to the recruits. It says, "I'm Busy - GO AWAY" and Kenna presents it to Calaudrin with a flourish. "WAIT THERE IS A HIDDEN CHAMBER?" Kenna's just going to awkwardly hold out that plaque but Sparte has ALL her attention.

Harper nods and grins at Cal, "Thanks, for doing this." She wanders back over to the bunk with Kenna and sits down with one of the books, laying it across her lap. At the talk of a hidden chamber, she perks up and looks over at Sparte. "Really?"

Zavi arrives, delivering a message to Harper before departing.

Plaque tossed to Calaudrin before Kenna makes her way over to Harper's bunk to settle again.

"If you find the hidden chamber won't that make it not hidden anymore?" Calaudrin asks with a deadpan. Then he's waving his hand, "Yeah, yeah. Go searching for the hidden chamber. I'm going to go ahead and say it's fine to do any investigations of the barracks you want, as long as it doesn't cause them to collapse. So maybe avoid trying to tunnel into the Inquisition."

Sparte sighs and starting ticking off on his fingers. "The Inquisition had a hidden morgue, the palace had two different hidden chambers, I won't get into the things with the faith. Frankly, the city is ripe with hidden hidey holes in all of the really old buildings." Sparte thinks for a bit. "And we pretty much have complete run of the barracks, so... I can make a map, if you two make the measurements. We'll quickly know if there are any spaces we can't access that don't make sense."

"I can do it while I'm cleaning!" Kenna chirps up!

Harper grins at Sparte and nods enthusiastically, "Sure I'll help you. I like puzzles and figuring things out. A hidden room sounds downright fun compared to what we've all been dealing with lately."
