The strength and multitude of our enemy is only becoming clear as things settle. Yes, many things are being set right now, but we see how our enemies use the Great Road as an opportunity. They found us exposed, extended. And they struck.

And we were not ready.

For decades we have allowed ourselves the luxury of thinking that other problems were more important, there was time to play the silly games of titles and squabbling over the small portions of lands we have tamed. For decades we thought debate was a substitute for preparation. And we were found wanting. Acts of great skill and thought from many have stabilised us, but the cost will be measured in bodies piled high, in silver lost, in time wasted, in faith shaken.

The Siege was a warning. Stormwall a wake up. The Lodge an alarm. Now we must finally listen. The solution will not be found in force of arms alone, but force of arms may buy us the time and the opportunity. The solution may not be found in Orthodoxy alone, yet Orthodoxy grants us the stability we need. I know many houses are doing their part, I know the Faith awakes. So we must all do our part to join them. The Fortresses that guarded our people hundreds of years ago will be rebuilt, and iron and steel will turn to blades in our forges, and the Templars will bring in new blood so we can stand with all the faithful.

The reports are starting to come in of our work in regard to the Great Road - the vast majority of things seem to be leaning toward the positive, and yet, I cannot help but wonder about all the things I am not seeing. Still, with each conflict that manages to be resolved, we can each take a breath, take a step back, and redouble our efforts where they are needed. What I am convinced of, more than ever, is that no set of tools should be without variation.

We have a very solid crop of Apprentices coming up through the ranks right now, all at different points in their training and their accomplishments - and yet, whenever I hear about anything, it is all extremely positive. Soon, each of them will shine as brightly as any of the rest of the House, and we will all be the brighter for it. It has been a delight to give them this opportunity and see each of them seize it. I could not be prouder of their work.

It's good to see some efforts do make a difference, even without the fancy clothes.

Book,

I recently had the opportunity to speak briefly on none orthodox training methods, I have many of my own, and I am well aware that Master Sparte does as well. I wonder, who else has a unique training method that they use?

Book,

Making liquor is an art, an art I have been working on. Recently finishing my first full batch of Serpents Tide Rum, named after my ship and spiced with sorrel in honor of my wife, has been a very rewarding process. I encourage everyone to try it at least once. There is a sense of satisfaction in the production of such a thing, and when your friends like it is even better.

Relationship Note on Norwood

Disappointment? I hope someone hasn't been talking to you about me. I'm sure it wasn't me.

The nattering doesn't stop. Refuge in my home serves me well, though it means I trod through the blasted snow. I have taken up someone to reside with me. The Blessed Brigida. There's something odd about an Archlector residing in a home, but she takes refuge the same as I and at least we can sit about the table and talk about the young things flitting about the city. I'll have to see to a garden properly put in the back now that someone is there.

I wonder if people will make rumors now? Unlikely. They have better things to gossip about on their lips that two elder woman.

Relationship Note on Kedehern

Lord Kedehern's work with Lord Rohran and other members of the house to keep the roads safe has been a boon and blessing. It's an honor to have such a productive and hardworking member of House Laurent.

Finely done work on those patrols that swept through the southern Oathlands, it brought a significant amount of peace to a region that was growing increasingly dangerous.

Nobody knows how they're going to react when they're faced with combat for the first time. I've seen the roughest, most well trained fighters turn and run at the first charge. The first time I killed a man, I threw up and couldn't keep anything down for two days. You don't know until it happens. And you don't really know until you've forced yourself back into it a second, third, maybe even a fourth time.

And you certainly can't know just from looking at someone. Make a guess, sure. But you can't actually know.

A whole Oathland's house gone. The idea is a terrible though the action abhorrent and a great loss. May they find peace and may the Oathland's faithful find those responsible.

It's been an interesting day. There is so much going on, and on. I am glad to see at least some of the fighting and feuding is simmering down across the Compact. Now if only we can manage to get the rest of it to simmer down, I will feel somewhat better.

And yet, then I will wonder what we are missing. And where.

Relationship Note on Maja

My words are my art and though they are not always perfect perhaps all they need to be is heartfelt. Worry not, Maja of the curls, you shall have it in time.

I suppose I'd be remiss no to also document congratulations for Lady Peri Seliki and her house. Her for her promotion, and the House for it's dedication to defending not only themselves, but the coasts of Arvum. I should really send a gift, but what sort of gift befits an Admiral?

Lady Joslyn is wed and advances in her life now as Countess-Consort Joslyn Rivenshari. It is always a bitter-sweet moment to have a member of one's house marry out, but as our diplomatic bonds grow stronger, so too do our people.

Relationship Note on Lottie

Miss Lottie makes scrumptiously delicious pastries and sweets!
I am in LOVE with her craft; and, find her whimsical establishment to be splendid.
I shall be visiting it more often from now on!

Ps. She makes those delicious southern treats Martino shared with me, when we were visiting Southport.
I have found that I absolutely ADORE chocolate covered honeycombs almost as much as tea.~
